Men's Long Program

I agree totally ilvskating. Patrick absolutely blew my away. Yes he fell a couple of times but his skating is on a level that is unbelievable. It was jaw dropping. He also looks thinner and even more fit.

Yes I love the fabric of his red shirt, showing off broad shoulders and a trim physique. You can see it well in this good quality video including an interesting conversation with his coach at the K&C:

eta. Yes skatinginbc, Patrick has talked about how he admires Jeff's skating and dancing style. He is modeling after the best attributes of each Canadian, and other, skating great. BTW, he's also taking modern dance, or ballroom dancing as reported before Worlds.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is what it was like to NOT like my Queen Kwan when she was skating. I was always so amazed and confused that there were people out there who just didn't like her skating. I thought they were crazy, uninformed, or just bitter and jealous. Being on the other side when it comes to Patrick certainly opens up my eyes to what that must have been like...

That's EXACTLY what it's like. (Though I don't get Chan either.) But, yes, it's the same thing. Excuses are made by everyone in skating when they falter and still come out on top...

Just got back from watching the skate LIVE. Anything new or the same old same old whine/mourn about Chan winning again? LOL

First time watching live was very exciting for me and I really enjoyed it. I will go again next time if it comes here.

I bring a friend, who likes to watch skating, but NOT A BIG FAN and definitely HAS NO IDEA about the jumps and spins etc.

So his comments...Chan's a class on his own, very smooth, elegant and likes his posture and artistry.

As for me, first time seeing him live...he is indeed very good on ice, very smooth and fast.

I don't think this competition will silence critics who maintain that Chan will win easily even if he falls x times.

I need a CoP seminar update, really, how many mistakes did Takahashi make to get 153? Chan stepped out, had iffy landings, and fell as well as Dai. Javi had his mistakes as well. ANd dont tell me they did a quad!I would be probably the puzzled goof in the audience if I was there.

Tak did two 3A WITHOUT a combination...so one did NOT count?

You have a very astute friend. I too was watching Skate Canada with a friend who is generally oblivious about figure skating, but all she could talk about was that she didn't understand how someone who fell so randomly (and twice!) could win the gold. Her favourite skater of the night was Javier Fernandez.

I tried to explain CoP to my friend but it was an uphill struggle all the way.....

Opinion =/= troll

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

alright, folks, lets play nice and stop throwing around insults. IF you cannot stand what you're reading by another poster there's this great little feature in your settings called "ignore" and you can click on that and ignore any and all opinionated posters you don't agree with.

if something truly IS against the guidelines you can always click the report feature which is the button that is a triangle with an exclamation point in the center (it's found below the posters name) and then the moderators will take appropriate action.

I wanna say just this: Patrick only skate to the music...Daisuke lives it! That for me is the big difference between the two. Daisuke's blues is out of this world IMO. It's such a difficult music to skate to and there's a big risk that you may find it boring in 4 and a half minutes but daisuke really takes it on another level. In three years he tried every style he could doing perfectly in all of them...cannot say the same for patrick..he seems to prefere old warhorses (and he didn't need to seeing the scores he gets anyway).
But I have to say he was GREAT doing that lutz just after the stumble!! I didn't expect it!! He IS a great competitor!

Good job for all of them!! And I'm so happy for Javier! Un programa estupendo Javi! ;)

Dai is the most overrated skater ever. I just saw him live tonight...surprisingly SLOW and the program just did not do anything for me.

I've also seen Daisuke live and I didn't think he was slow at all.

I'm not sure why this makes him "the most overrated skater ever."

You have to be there to appreciate Patrick Chan's skating. It was beyond words can describe. TV does not do him justice.

I agree. Just saw live for the first time...Chan was a class on his own in terms of smoothness, speed, flowing across the ice among other things.

I am going to have to agree with Tanja90 on Dai's musicality. There is no skater I would rather watch. Props to Chan for his speed and edges, but I have to admit I don't like the idea of the winner falling.

It counted, it just received a penalty on the base value.
I don't get it...how come the 2nd Axel counted? I thought it must be in combination?

I remember at world 2009, Chan's 2nd Axel...he added a single after because Kurt Browning said that if he didn't add that single, that Axel would not have counted at all.

No, the sequence rule's been around for a while.

So who should have won tonight since most of them have fallen?
