It's starting  Let the last party of the season begin. It hurts me to see Taka here. But he is such a cutie. I adore him. Go for the Quad little one!

Seeing as how he has an injury, I'm inclined into thinking he's going to go for the quadless program a la worlds...but who knows. Good luck to all the men!

(and here I am updating my WebTV subscription just to watch...) :boohoo:

Quad Toe - Triple Toe
Quad Toe
Double Lutz
Triple Axel - fall out
Triple Salchow
Circular steps
3-2-2 (Flip?)
Triple Rittberger - fall out
Sitspin - not bad
Triple Toe - Double Toe - fall out
Combination spin - good

I missed one spin. He rotates extremely fast, I sometimes don't know if there are 2, 3 or 4 rotations. Plus, too many Toeloops! I think he showed us once again why he never went to Worlds or Euros - 25 years old, great Quads - but not much else.

Chao Yang
Triple Lutz - Triple Toe - beautiful technique
Triple Flip - smooth
Double Axel - intended, beautiful
Combination spin - good centre, decent positions
Circular steps - good fluent movements, nice twizzles
2A-2T-2R - very nice, good height
Triple Flip - Double Toe - very nice, amazing out of steps
Triple Salchow - solid
Straightline Steps - good, nice with the music
Double Axel - nice
Sitspin - good
Triple Lutz - right before the end, great
Flying Sitspin - solid

Clothed in brownish stuff, very thin young man. Music was Otonal. Great basic skating, flawless performance. His to do list: get some confidence, a 3A and powerful music.

Hmm...looks like the injury is bothering him after all. Not the best performance from Taka-chan (Kozu is no longer his designated nickname, it seems). Aw..

Taka-chan
Double Axel - great
Triple Axel - fall out, tacked on a double
Triple Flip - solid
Flying Sitspin - nice deep positions, good centre
Straightline Steps - great edging, a bit lackluster
Combination Spin - good
Triple Salchow - Double Toe - Double - out of spread eagle, beautiful
Circular Steps - okay
Triple Lutz - Double Toe - ice on the landing of Lutz
Triple Rittberger - out of spread eagle, double-footed?
Single Axel
Triple Lutz - good
Spin with Scratchspin at the end - good

Oh Taka. When he gets nervous, his jumps get crashy. I remember that from another favourite of mine (Johnny...). One of his worst performances this season in my opinion.

Wouldn't that be a great moment to try a Quad?
Double Axel - opened up, but not too obvious
lost feed for some seconds; slow mo shows solid Triple Flip - Triple Toe
Triple Lutz - good
Sitspin - good
Circular Steps - he is still alive, even after doing mistakes, admirable
Showing off his fantastic eding while resting
Triple Axel - fall, underrotated?
Triple Salchow - great height, do I smell Quad?
Combination spin - lovely
Triple Rittberger - buttery
Triple Lutz - Double Toe - threeturn, fights for landing after Lutz
Double Axel - solid
Steps - great, nice to the music
Flying sitspin - good speed

The Triple Axel only exists for him during the most important competitions, 4CC, Worlds... I guess he can live with that. He really keeps it going, even after making mistakes. That's important.

Score: 151.95 that's too high

Chao Yang is still 19, evidently, time to learn.

So, you can get a 152 (almost) with no 3A, no quad, only two combos and some iffy landings on other jumps? And nearly 80 on PCS for what must have been only a so-so performance? What are the judges smoking?

Can't say I'm too surprised, though.

Wu
Triple Lutz - Triple Toe - he nearly jumped over the boards, what height!
Triple Axel - Double Toe - high, higher - Wu!
Triple Salchow - he has not much speed out of the jumps
Sitspin - ugh
Triple Rittberger - spread eagle into it, great speed out of the jumps this time
Triple Axel - high, did I mention high?
Double Axel - double Toe - double Toe - solid
Triple Flip - good
Circular Steps - okay
Flying Sitspin - okay
Straightline Steps - slow (someone get this guy a choreographer, he could be great)
Triple Lutz - fall, oh no!
Combination spin - okay

I am a sucker for a good old jumping clinic. High, breathtaking jumps. Love that. He has that. Now get a choreographer. And a costume designer. And real music. Could be great. Shame about that fall at the end. But both Chinese men brought their A-game tonight.

Triple Rittberger - solid
Quad Salchow - fall, underrotated?
Triple Lutz - smooth
Combination spin - slow, good centre though
Triple Axel - fall out, but rotated
Circular steps - nice
Triple Salchow - Triple Toe - perfect
Triple Flip - great
Triple Lutz - fall
Double Axel - okay
Flying sitspin - slow
Steps - Amodio steps ;)
Sitspin - solid

Ah well. Two falls, but not a complete meltdown. Gutsy going for the Quad. And good for coming back after the mistakes. One thing that really botheres me is that most of his spins slow down a lot during the second half of the spin, it's a bit painful to watch. It's actually his first international Senior competition. Ok, the French are drunk.

Mr. Manly, I mean Vaughn of course
Triple Axel - high! And clean!
Triple Lutz - Triple Toeloop - higher!
Triple Flip - he lets his back drop on the landings, just like Yagudin - clean though
Sitspin - solid
Triple Axel - double Toeloop - great
Single Rittberger - nope! I wanted him to beat Chan.
Circular Steps - a bit bleh, but hey, he can jump
Double Axel - what a waste, so much height and just two rotations :p
Single Salchow
Triple Lutz - Double Toe - combination spin, nice
Straightline Steps - with fistpumping à la Joubert, slowing down a little
Flying sitspin - solid

Jeez, what's with the hidden Canadian towards the end? Doubling / Singling jumps towards the end of your performance is a Czech speciality! I just love to see him jump. And that's a zero-prerotation Axel. If they put this device on him, it would probably say 3.6 rotations in the air.
