beautiful 3a 3t / 4s that looked so easy it could have been a triple / flycam with great pos and fantastic speed / 4t / WOW he’s skating great and has a decent amount of expression / music slows & quietens and some nice movement & chor / neat slow (intentionally) back spin in arabesque pos / bit of slip during chor / 3z / death drop has fast spin could be in lower pos / 3l fell out / 2f or 2z far end of ice couldn’t really tell what was intended / strt ftwrk down side of rink could use more detail / 3s / problems centering cam pos of combo spin rest of it was centered and good / kind of weird ending with lots body movement in one spot for about 5 seconds.

Music Starts with very familiar refrain / 3z / 3l feel out / missed the next part of his program doing something else – sorry / 3l / some nice chor to slower section – unique body movement really goes with music – I enjoyed it / Pilates song (so you’re the great Jesus Christ – raunchy & we have some good footwork to it into a 3s he fell out of / back to Jesus Christ superstar melody and he in a sit spin / music ends really weird – kind of a letdown / I did enjoy the program though

Black with a couple of red bands around his chest and down one arm / Natural Born Killers is the music/
Kind of a 4t but didn’t really get all the way around landed on 2 feet / 3a rot but landed heavy on 2 feet / music is weird almost like male scat singing hard to describe and he has some weird shaking in one place / a couple of jumps I sort of missed trying to describe what he was doing / very nice cam spin with great pos / 3z 2foot? Turnout? Something not quite right / 3t / 2s / beautiful cam ch cam fast / 2z / strt ftwrk has great body movement to music but except for twizzles & stuff at very end is mostly on 2 feet / combo spin starting with great cam other pos are great too / neat chor right to music into O ftwrk that has wonderful dancing & unique moves – I’d like to see that again / ending in very short neat final spin.

Neat side split spiral into 2a turns into a jump I didn’t see the take-off of – think a double of some sort / long preparation into 3l / 2z / now were getting some tango feel – there wasn’t anything in his movement up til now to make you tink tango / 3f 2ft / very nice sit ch sit / some fairly empty MITF into 2footed 3z / 3s / flycam has good speed & pos / big 2t / O ftwrk is a bit empty but has some very nice toe-work / same with strt ftwrk / both hands down and almost fell on jump I missed the take-off of /

3z2t couldn’t see feet on landing of toe too close to boards near me / 3f / travel 3’s into 3l that he just managed to hang on to / sit spin with nice low pos & pointed toe flyover to end it / 3s I think didn’t really see take off – was looking down at screen / some nice chor to slower section / 3z fell out 2foot / 2s / nice spin with good pos / 3t hand down / flycam with great fly pos & speed of spin could be better / strt ftwrk is Morozov style and he did it quite well / 2a / combo spin with neat layback pos & catchfoot cam / I found the program dragged a bit and I was tending to clock-watch.

Popped toe / 3a step out waltz jump / 3z3t no speed on landing of toe but it was clean / nice flycam / nice 3a / O ftwrk uses whole body and right from boards to boards & is very detailed & fast / 2a?? not sure didn’t really see it / just missed a bit of his program while some people were walking in front of me / gorgeous spread eagle / 3f / death drop is good / strt ftwrk is morozov style – he does it well but there’s too many stops for my liking / 3l / combo spin include A /

Some neat chor facing judges gets him going / 3a3t very nice / 3t – a big one / gorgeous flying cam to great upright bent leg pos / big 2a / cam wrong way with great pos to cam right way into 3s that he had to hop out of / some unique movement in almost one place / music is slower now and he moving to it / 3f kind of hung on to landing / cam backsit to front sit to upright with good leg pos / cantilever into 3l / music bec omes bouncier and he does his diag ftwrk to it / 3s3t / back spiral with unique arm movement / butterlies into cam spin with great speed & pos / upright spin with great bent leg pos /

Thank you so much for posting these notes. This is great, especially for us in countries, like the US, that don't televise the qualifying rounds at all, and don't show much from the rest of the event, either.

When I'd gone to worlds in DC, the qualifying rounds were my favorite. It's great seeing skaters from Mexico and other countries that don't have such large skating programs, and I'm loving seeing your notes on even the less known skaters.

Glad to see Klimkin do so well. Holding my breath for Plushenko and Weiss.

All Alone / black leather & mesh – shing / 3a fell out 2 or 3t and fell out / 2l / some good chor to electric guitar / 3z far end of ice but sure it was 2ft / layback spin / spiral section with lunge & side split / 3l 2ft / 2a / flycam is pretty good / sal didn’t get off ice / combo spin is ok / there seems to be something missing in performance – not the right kind of attitude for the costume maybe – don’t really know / popped flip or lutz right in front of me but it was on a flat / 3z at other end of rink so I guess the last one was a flip / strt ftwrk is really fast with a decent amount of detail / nice high split jump into arabian in to final spin ending in scratch /

4t3t very well done / nice 3a just beautiful / upright spin intentionally on slow side with neat leg pos / some chor in place to slower music now he’s moving but slow and in front of judges / music is building a bit and he’s into a 3a3t / 3z / Music explodes and his movement do as well / 2s didn’t really get off ice / 3t but had to be a flip not a toe although a few of us had it as a toe at first – he’s already done 2 3t’s / 3l / sit spin into upright / spiral seq / combo spin with unique sideways upright pos / strt ftwrk has one small section that I think is good & difficult but rest is stop & start on toepicks / combo spin to end is very good /

Music starts out with marching band drums and his moves go with it well / 4t3t pretty sure 4t was 2foot / 3z / upright spin with good pos lost balance and had to recenter ended with nice xfoot / 2a that wasn’t very pretty / 3l / nice fly on flying cam spin is ok to upright with salute / end of amazing grace music and we now have trumpets playing revelle / 3a2t / 3s / 3z / sit ch sit is very good / mike pike into 3f fell out / diag ftwrk is quite good – detailed & good speed / flycam flyover to sit to scratch to back scratch /

4t maybe 2ft hand down for sure / 3a3t quick turn off toe & foot down doubt if counted as completely clean / 3z or f fell out hand down / music changes & slows & playing to judges / 3l / neat chor into unsual spin pos – quite nice / 3a / huge death drop spin was soso / music speeds up a lot and he’s into very good O ftwrk – crowd is clapping / 3s / music changes tempo again and so does he / program might be a bit too judge-centric / 3z bit squeekly on landing / spin that I missed the start of / music change and crowd is clapping for strt ftwrk oops wasn’t strt ftwrk ‘cause he did a 3t at the end / combo spin with flyover in middle is quite good /

According to reports at FSU, Gareth Echardt (RSA) withdrew because one of his skates broke, and he was unable to find a replacement skate.

Did anyone besides Plushenko skate to a different free skate! He's so unique, and it's nice for the spectators to get to see different programs. Must impress the judges that he'd go to the effort to work on 2 different programs.

Lambiel is doing a different program for the LP as well.

I like that Plush does that. He skated Carmen in the QR last year which was nice because he didn't perform it often that last season and we got a chance to see it live again.

Plush started skating different free skates since Worlds 2001 when he did Gypsy Dance for the QR and OUATIA for the free.
Lambiel has done Gypsy Dance today and will show Flamenco on Thursday

That makes sense. At nationals, Mike's "lip" was almost as bad as Cohen's flutz. I wrote down a list of his jumps and it wasn't until I realized that I wrote three lutzes that I caught it. He went into it with a flip entry but didn't get on an inside edge at all.

yes.. i like that plush does a different qualifying free program! he's one of the few who does this. i wish kwan would do the same. it makes it more interesting...to see past programs and how they've changed or improved..

This is Joesitz in Dortumund with HockezFan

A few opinions follow:

Plushenko skated his best ever, imo. He was cool, collected, musical, no showing off, and of course, fabulous jumps.

Sandhu also skated well but it is argued that lst place was where he should be

Klimkin didn't disalppoint me. Fabulous artistry great spins and jumps and looking more like Njinskz every moment.

Lambiel had all his trademark flow, spins, and jumps. Excellent top skater but not his best day but still will be in last group.

Jouvwer skated excellentlz but the judges went to Sandhu.

Lindemann was the big surprise. Verz good!

The above makes the last group for the short program.

Others were Johnnz Weir who skate excellentklz but he is not known bz the international judges.

Weiss, was Weiss, skated well had his fall and it took its toll.

Griayev skated as a good junior.

Li was off that daz.

Zhang was surprisinglz good.

Should be a good Short Program leading up to a good LP
