Men's Short - Notes & Results

I am so thrilled for Johnny! 
I was so sad for him yesterday. I was pretty sad for the entire U.S. team up until this men's short program today (the Men's QR, Pair's short and CD's weren't the best of results for the U.S. skaters). I hope this now turns things around for the U.S. team.
Lindemann is a huge surprise for me. Good for him. I'm happy I get to see Stephane Lambiel in the final group too...at least I hope ABC will show his LP.
It's nice to see a lot of movement in the places. I mean it's heart-wrenching at times, but it sure makes for an interesting competition. I mean...who knows what'll happen in the freeskate?!

Weiss and Weir Move Up to Group I
A stunning victorz for the two USA plazers.
Weir was in the 3rd group and Weiss was in the second group and after the SP both will be challenged bz the top skaters in the 1st group.
It was quite a night of SP. Very sad for Klimkin and Sandhu both of whom had flaws to bring them down.
The good news was that Johnnz just skated flawlesslz and his SP is worth seeing.
Plush, Joubert and the german boz, Lindemann were excellent. Plush is incredible and Lindemann is a real crowd stealer.
More tomoorow, as this computer is wanted bz so manz other people and I have to give it up.

I'm so disappointed about Sandhu. I feel his SP is one of the best out there - I definitely like it better than Plushenko's. I hope that he can pull it together for the LP.
I'm glad that both Weir and Weiss were able to move into the final group. I was almost afraid that we would lose one spot for next year.
I can't wait to see these on ESPN this Thursday.

Feel soooo bad for Sandhu and Klimkin. Unfortunately, I am afraid they are both too inexperienced to be able to pull off a superb free skate after such poor showings in short.

Berthes, don't you think it's a bit of a generalization to say that all Russian coaches are cold and non-supportive. True, some coaches (Mishin comes to mind) are rather harsh; others, such as TT or Gromova are at least as comforting as any American coach.

AAARRRRGHHHH!!!!
I would rather watch paint dry than one more histrionic by-the-numbers program by Plyusehnko. Yes, he's hugely talented but that just makes the waste worse. I can't stand to watch him anymore because he hasn't changed one bit in the last three years (except his pseudo Biellmann gets more painful to watch each season).
My current favorite male skater is Klimkin --- but like many innovative original skaters the big tricks aren't always there. Sigh. He's had a very rough season so I'm hoping he can bounce back.
I managed to miss Weir, who I've yet to see, but all credit to Weiss (who I've also usually been lukewarm to), probably the best SP I've seen from him .... ever. If he could just not two foot the damned quad ...
I am _so_ rooting for Joubert (who's come a loooonnnngg way from last season) to win this thing end put an end to Plyushenko's reign of terror (against my sensibilities).

Evdokia, point well taken. What I meant is that I think the skaters who consistently medal at major international competitions do a better job ignoring an early mistake in the short. For example, I fully expect Shen & Zhao to do well in free despite their placement after short. I think it's harder for skaters who may have been at Worlds before, but don't usually medal.

Mafke on Plushy...
This is NOT a Plush Bash. I totally respect him for the many things he does in superior fashion. And from what I hear, he is incredible in person in a way that doesn't necessarily come through on TV. That's the Plushy sincere respect qualification that needs to precede my next remark.
I was thrilled today to hear the Eurosport commentary during and following Johnny's performance. At 19, he sure seems to possibly represent the future of US Men's Figure Skating.
A poster on another board (who actually saw it - I only heard it) said that while Johnny skated great, he was "too feminine."
Of course I'm biased as a US'er, but my first thought was *WHAT ABOUT PLUSHY AND THAT BIELMANN??????* That is the ONE move I sure wish he would drop.
lol - just wanted to share that your post gave me a laugh with regard to your Bielmann observation.

Doggygirl, actually I don't think that Johnny skates femininely at all, he just has a very soft and light way of skating and moving his body and especially his arms - a quality which IMO only very few male skaters have.
However, I'd wish it could be seen more often and IMO it ususally can be seen more with the European skaters than others and here mostly with the Russian ones. - But then of course that's all just a matter of taste. 
And tough I'm a big Plushy-fan, I'd wish he'd get rid of that Bielman too, cause for me that's definitely a feminine move. - But on the other hand I really like the rest of his skating, so I can live with it.

I hope you didn't misunderstand my comments about Johnny. No kidding - I ADORE his skating and if someone were to say "he skates like a drag queen" MY comment would be....then MORE people should start skating like drag queens. That's probably a harsh way of stating it, but no kidding, anyone could tell me he skates like a woman, a grizzly bear, an old lady, an old man, a moose, etc. and I would still love what he can put out there.
I just think he has a natural gift that other determined and hard working skaters can only dream of. I ALWAYS respect those that DON'T have that special gift, but work their a$$ off to get to the top anyway. But it really is special to see someone with the gift put it together with competitive fire and make it happen. I hope Johnny is the next "Michelle" of US Figure Skating. I think he has the potential, it's all in how HE deals with it. A huge burden AND opportunity on very young shoulders.
Am I the only one who feels like I'm in some sort of non-reality place this week?? MAN it's hard to concentrate on "real life!"

I felt the same way after the mens QUAl rounds, Pairs, and the CDS, but now I feel alittle better. B/A stand a good chance to move up some spots in the OD they have a great draw. (Personally I hope they pull a top 2 or 3 in the OD) As with Pairs I just hope they skate clean and hope for the best.
