Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

God, rewatched Takahashi....

How are the Japanese at politicking? Can they please sell everything they got, including Asada's, Ando's and Suzuki's medal chances, their grandmas, their stock portfolios - to get him the gold? Please? Pretty please?

God, that was incredible.

About Evan's 3A - you want to see a decent, barely prerotated 3A? Watch Brezina! Evan clearly took off backwards. I can make a video with slow motion, if you want to.

Will you? I really want to take a better look at it... It can be by PM because I'm not sure it's a good idea on this thread...

I wonder if Brezina might be able to do a 4F - he certainly has enough height on the triple.

How about a slow -mo of Plushy's questionable quad? It was borderline on the rotation and maybe some would like to see that as well :rolleye:

Well as much as you look the vids, slow vids etc, it is over now. Axel was marked. Go to sleep Medusa, I need you tommorow :p B you will join us??we have our personal live commentary and bet lunches! So far I have to feed medusa.

what about takahashi's 3t?? We can watch vids all day lol!

Grandpa was the only one with a clean quad in all competition by the way.

I liked Johnny's. But I didn't quite get the costume. When I first saw that vivid pink on black and something looking like a corset, I imaginzed more edgie music. But then I just didn't think that it goes well with that music. The costume went well with the choreos towards the end though. Were the choreos done by David Willson? It reminds me of Jeff's hip shaking in his sing, sing, sing SP. From Johnny's, I like the Swan better. I also liked Love is the War better. I can understand that some ppl just can't get into this program. Yet, I was happy that he seemed have truly enjoyed skating there.

I have to say Plushy was very good and it is amazing to see him land his big jumps at GP, then Euros and now Olympics.
He is a great competitor!

Takahashi's 3T, yes, the Japanese commentator (was it Takeshi Honda??) was wondering if it was okay and relieved that it was ratified.
Who's Grandpa, BTW?

Same here medusa - not interested - and I agree with seniorita. SP is over and now it is on to LP's

You know, I have to agree that I was shocked to see Evan come so close to Plush. The judges actually gave Plush 6.8 for Trans. I applaud them for that BUT positive GOE for all of Evan's jumps? No way. Speaking of questionable rotations, Evan's 3-3 looked underrotated to me. I'm looking for a replay to rewatch it. And really high GOE on the circular sequence (2.2)? I find his footwork sequences too choppy and jerky. Moving from turn to turn should most definitely be smooth. I'm glad for Evan that he skated well but I would have: Plushy, Takahashi, Lysacek, Weir, Lambiel and Oda. Oda was clean but, outside of the jumps, there wasn't much to recommend that program, and thae jumps weren't high enough in difficulty for him to merit being so high, IMO. Apparently Weir two-footed one of the jumps that I did not notice in his skate but it's on the protocols (or there's a -2 anyway so I'm assuming). Personally, I think he was punished a bit by the judges for his flamboyancy. I will be first in line to say that I do not personally care for Johnny Weir's antics but that should not factor into the judging at all.

I'm still crying in my coffee for Jeremy Abbott. What a time to have a meltdown. He's one of those guys I think does have it all (that's the kind of footwork I look for!) but you can't pop jumps at the Olympics.

I totally feel for you. If only Takahashi were able to pull together two strong programs (a la 2008 4CC) with consistency, then all my hopes and dreams would be on him. I would love to see him victorious on Thursday, but I get this unsettling feeling that the consistent skaters will in the end emerge strong, like always. My ideal podium would have Abbott, Lambiel and Takahashi. My compromise-with-reality-podium has Plushenko, Takahashi and Lambiel (whom I know will come back with a stunning LP), but I get the feeling that someone will have to budge for Lysacek.

Plushenko was great in the jumps but truly sucks in the artistry dept. He flaps his arms and does not skate to the music. Any music will do. The judges always give him such high undeserved marks. I bet the Russian mob has control over the judges. I am sure that no matter what Plushy does in the lp, he will win.

Lol, I forgot! I want to thank Ant who helped me big time not going nuts in plush's group, cause Medusa was sleeping :scowl:and my little sister was worse state than me.:p

If you find a replay, will you post here. If I find one I'll post too. My boss loves Evan but fell asleep. She can't help it, she's old. lol

Me too, I felt so sorry for Jeremy.

That's a little harsh. And unfounded. And insulting to an athlete who practices hours after hours in order to give all he's got on ice.

Yeah, that's why the American, who never flaps his arms and always skates perfectly to the music, interprets every piece of music uniquely and is the most artistic skater ever - is basically head to head with Plushenko.

Does someone know where i can watch Plushenko, Lambiel, Takahashi and Oda? I had to miss them as it was 3am for me and i work at 8am. Ive tried youtube, but none, nbc cannot view outside usa. Anyone ? I want so much to see them.

I may not be rooting for Plushy but I am in awe of his comeback and the way he can still land those big jumps.
I don't love his "artistry" but others seem to like it. I think his return has made the Men's event more exciting and even boosted the Olympics as a whole.

I hope Dai or Evan or possibly Lambiel win the OGM but if Plushy wins again I am fine with that too.
Afterall, it is not easy "being like Dick Button." :)

I am Plushenko's fan, but it's not the point... I think it's unfair to score combo 3Lz+3T =10.00, ànd risky and really difficult
4T+3T =13.80. Of course it is safer to jump 3+3, not concentrating on jumps but more on program components. It's sad when men stay on a safer side, ladies have become far more challenging and men have gone 20 years back. It's become a dissapointment, sad for Verner and Joubert for attemting and not being granted. All top 10 ladies have 3+3...Mao has 3A... and is more stable with it than most men...sad!

On the whole I liked the way top 3 skated and Weir, it was adorable, Chan, Oda and Kozuka were clean but not WOW! it's gonna be very tough, a real battle!

ITA. Men are a lot stronger than women and 3-3 combos are nowhere near as difficult as a 4-3 combo. I think a lot of guys are slumming with their difficulty because they don't gain as much as an advantage risking a 4-3 as a 3-3. It's really not fair and a huge step back in men's skating.

I really don't see anyone "nipping" on Plush's heels. The scores are close because they are being manipulated. Quite frankly, I don't get the premium paid on transitions. The guy is doing a 4-3 combo- how many transitions is he expected to realistically put before that? So the judges are going to dock him 2 points for lack of transitions when his content was the most difficult. It erases any advantage that he gains through the difficulty of the combination.

I was almost crushed and burned last night. Still haven't recovered yet. How come those with the most talent and best on everythings couldn't stand on the high pressure?!

I will root anyone to win the OGM who doesn't reserve himself and play safe, but goes all the way out, which means having at least one quad jump in the LP. An OGM without a quad is just sooooo undeserving. If Evan wins OGM without a quad, it will show clearly that CoP is taking the sport backwards and has to be changed. It will be a sad day. If indeed that Evan puts a quad in (which I don't think he will) and nails everything else, then I would bow to him for what he's accomplished and cheer for him.
