Mens SP

I´m happy as three of my favourites (very sorry for Abbott) are on the top, but the scores seem very inflated indeed. Takahashi I can understand, since the competition is held in Asia, but Buttle with one not so good jump? Evan looked very strong and I´m so glad that he succeeded in quad-triple combination, WOW.

I am not a huge Evan fan, but I thought this was one of his best skates in a while. But did anyone else think it felt a bit off the music in spots?

Evan's triple lutz might have been down graded or his jump landing on his triple axel didn't look good so he might have gotten -1 on that jump. I don't really care for Evan's skating that much but did enjoy his twizzles. Tanith must have been helping him on that.

To lose to a quadless glitter punk... must be SO frustrating.

I don´t think that Takahashi´s person matters to Buttle or Lysacek. Well, Buttle lost to Takahashi and Lysacek, and Lysacek to Takahashi, that´s just competition... Besides, the competition is held in Asia, so it is to be expected that Takahashi will be held up, but his sp is really awesome. Anyway, Lysacek is only a couple points behind Takahashi and Buttle and Lysacek were even closer. One could say that traditionally Lysacek is stronger in freeskate than in short programme, we will see how he fares now in this competition.

I noticed the very small difference between Lysacek and Buttle too - perhaps Lysacek's Axel was downgraded once again? Did anybody watch it? Did it look scratchy? I am not Lysacek's biggest fan, but his footwork and spins are really good - I can't imagine that Buttle got so much more for those.

actually all of evan's jumps looked prettty perfect. the best SP he has had all year.

The scores are really inflated! And don't look at my signature! Or my avatar. This has nothing to do with me being, ahm, patriotic! I watched it (thanks to Hsuhs and the nice Chinese TV) - and I think the the judges like Takahashi a bit too much. And I love Takahashi - but he wasn't 4 points better than at the GPF.

As much as I enjoy Buttle and his style - I think the inflation started with him, they gave him so much points - then Lysacek came along and only botched up his last spin, so they had to give the lead to Lysacek, but Lysacek already had the same amount of points Takahashi got at the GPF in the SP - and it would have been funny if Takahashi had beaten Lysacek at the GPF in the SP by four points (and Lysacek's only mistake there was the 4T-3T Combo with -GOE, the Quad that Takahashi didn't even have in his program) so they somehow gave Takahashi so much GOE that he still won the SP by quite a margin.

Someone who was really cheated in my opinion was Chengjiang Li. Carriere was scratchy, his spins are way better, but I don't think he has much better interpretation or choreography. His footwork looks harder but he is not into it - it looks like "here I have to throw my right arm into the air - now I have to turn my left foot and lean over my right hip etc." Chengjiang Li is no artist on ice, but I prefer a rather simple choreography with sound technique and moves that look "convincing" over a guy who does not seem to know why he has to do this movement at this point of the music.

@Tinymavy - his jumps were really ok tonight, he will never have the quality some other guys have on their jumps, but I think the jumps deserved between +0-1,0 GOE.

Based on Lysacek´s TES something must have been downgraded. I agree that this looked his best sp of the current season. Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, three of my favourite skaters are on top after the short programme... WOW, the freeskate will be sooo exciting!

I thought Evan's jumps all looked very scratchy and I've seen him spin better.... I have to give him the twizzles though, they are simply great!!!

What about his 3A? Evan's twizzles ARE great and getting better with every competition.

3A was scratchy... There is still the possibility that he got that one downgraded.

He nearly fell on the last spin, but the judges don't deduct much for that (at least not normally, Ando and Takahashi both have a habit of shaky spins, especially when late in the program, but they never get really punished).

Who said that the triple Lutz could have been downgraded? I thought that this was a glorious triple Lutz - he actually had a ride-out and everything on that one.

His twizzles are great - I am tempted to add this SP to my youtube playlist... I never added a Lysacek program before...

I thought his triple lutz might have been downgraded. I re-watched the slo-mo again and it looks to me that it was underrotated.

Cool to see Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Brazil represented.

Yeah, but the last time that happened to him in the SP he came roaring back in the long and...tied! ;)

Tied my ... He won! WON!

Everybody knows how he had won. Who cares his win?! The only thing a skater could control is to skate his best. The rest leaves to the judges.

I'd amend that to say Evan is passion on ice. Artistry is a matter of style. I'd say Evan has both - passion, and artistry. His is different than Jeff's. IMHO.

Evan and artistry?! Passion? yes! Artistry? Sorry! If anything that is uncomprehensible could be called artistry, then he has that kind of "artistry".

Quadless glitter punk? ;) He's planning two in the LP!

I thought Takahashi was the clear winner tonight. He didn't have the quad but he didn't need it in this competition. His jumps are as smooth as butter. And those footwork sequences! Amazing. :D This short program is the bomb.

It wouldn't surprise me if Evan got his 3axel downgraded since he tends to cheat it, but judging from the score, I think not. His quad was the best one he's ever done. The only jump that looked shaky was the 3axel. (But IMO, artistically and in performance, and even skating skills, Daisuke is much better).
