Men's SP

Evan Lysachek, USA

Bolero

3a tight but i think ok
3lz-3t decent
3f better

he seems slow-ish
i'm always impressed by his low sitspin for a tall guy
I get no sense of natural flow in his presentation here
spins good
good crowd response, and he seems thrilled..

AH - commentator says SP was redone, by Lori Nichol (maybe this was common knowledge around here?) -- anyway that explains a lot

81.65 -- 2nd

I thought pcs stood for "predetermined canadian score"
but i was mistaken. its actually "patrick chan score"

Nobonari Oda-JAPAN

beautiful music
looks nervous.

3 axel, hesitant landing, but clean and excellent

3 lutz, VERY low in the knee on landing, 2 toe after pause.

solo jump (missed takeoff) perfect.

Not performing this as well as he did in the past.

not much of a reaction from him at the end.
is it just me or does he look so much older?

Evan was so relieved, everything came together tonight... *whew*

happy hollow - I don't think anyone is being mean here tonight. skating has always been about people not being happy with the judging... it's just not the Canadians complaining tonight... but I can think of many competitions where Canadians were most vocal... it's just playing in their favor tonight. no biggy.

that was scary how close he was to the boards on the 3 axel.

on re-play he messed up the footwork in a spot and turned out of the 2 toe in the combo.

75.04, 6th Place for Oda.

All the american men are in the top 5 with most of the best in the world here :)

Nobunari Oda, JPN

Masquerade Waltz

3a good, close to boards but ok
3lz-2t stumbly, hesitant for some reason - was low on lz, replay shows
3f easy

spins nice, filled with neat positions
stumbly exit from a spin... or was that transition footwork? awkward there
nice movement, but I get no spark from this performance
I have never enjoyed this music for a singles skater though (Mao comes close however)... doesn't use it properly.. but it's too powerful anyway

75.04 -- 6th place

I'm Canadian, and I do believe my countrymen are being overscored. I'm not happy about this. :scowl:

Thanks to everyone for the commentary and good company. Good night! Congratulations to Patrick, Evan, Takahiko, Jeremy, Brandon and all the others who did their best.
