Mens SP

Gonna be close between Oda & Artur, would hate to call this one, but I think they'll give it to Oda. :)

I like Oda's trying new styles. I think that was a solid effort. And his 3A was HUGGGEE!

ODa!!! Yey!!!

Jesus Japan needs 4 spots for Worlds otherwise the Nationals will be a heartbroke from here to Sochi :(

Btw COC has great time schedule for europe :D

Edit: 4th??? :scowl::unsure:
WHY?

That 77.65 for Oda seeems really low. I wonder what happened? UR somewhere? I don't know where it would be!

ETA: Then again he didn't have a quad--his TES is just a smidge under Jeremy's and PCS is barely above Artur's

1 Artur GACHINSKI (RUS) 81.64
2 Yuzuru HANYU (JPN) 81.37
3 Jeremy ABBOTT (USA) 79.32
4 Nobunari ODA (JPN) 77.65
5 Nan SONG (CHN) 72.72
6 Jialiang WU (CHN) 65.06
7 Kevin REYNOLDS (CAN) 64.31
8 Richard DORNBUSH (USA) 62.93

Ooops, didn't realize he didn't do the quad, the *sky* camera messed me up. :(

Not surprised then that he's in 4th.

Low spin levels perhaps.

I so agree about Japan deserving four spots! I'm going to feel so bad for whoever's left off the team.

You guys make me jealous, I'm in the uni working for an exam tomorrow and I (obviously) can't watch yet !
have an
you are a better student than I am ... I have an exam/project that starts in 4 hours, but I couldn't myself drag away (I meant to just peek in on short dance)

Best wishes for your exaam

Yep, I have a feeling that Oda's going to get the boot. Kozuka is the reigning world silver medalist, Hanyu is the Future after Kozuka and Takahashi sells the tickets and draws in the viewers (not to mention, he's also a former world champion and reigning Olympic medalist).

Jeremy could have finished in 1st if he had performed his 3flip+3toe and 3Lutz with the same vigor that he did his 3Axel. He only received a +.10 on his jump combination and received -.10 on the Lutz. He got +1.43 on the 3Axel! That's a lot of +GOE that he lost out on for the other jump passes though.

Protocals:

Artur: Just one -1 on his 4T-3T combo from one judge. Second in PCS (which is wrong, imo) He would have scored higher if not for the level one spin.
Yuzuru: -GOE on the 3T, clearly what made the difference between 1st and second. He also got a level 2 on a spin.
Jeremy: Nice +1.43 on his 3A -- slight (just .1) negative GOE on the Lutz, which was expected Otherwise solid! highest PCS of the night (should be slightly higher--he should be in the 8s, but he's been away, relatively speaking so I guess I can understand..)
Oda - edge call on the Lutz? level 1 on the combo spin And a whopping 2.14 GOE for his 3A (ammazing!)
Nan - all positive GOE, level 4 on everything except step sequence (level 2)
Jialiang - -GOE on 3LO and camel spin.
Kevin -- No DG (despite what they said) but two UR on the 4S in the combo and the 3A. Edge call the lutz. level 2 spin.
Richard -- He actually scored the best on the non jump elements (he scored level 4 on all the spins and level 3 on the step sequence +GOE = 15.21 points, even ahead of Jeremy with 15.06) The mistakes on the first two jumping passes, obviously got negative GOE.

Amazing men's SP! Does Artur deserve those PCS scores???? Transitions???

Kudos to him for landing the quad triple!

Thanks, Mrs.P! That was fast!

What a talent, Yuzuru! Born to be a skater! Even his backward crossovers were like Johnny Weir's. But he is so much better than Johnny on everything at his young age! His skating blew me away! I think at least his PE should have been higher than Abbott's if his total PCS was not.:p

I haven't warmed up with Jeremy's new SP yet. This is the second time I saw him perform this SP. Seemed to me that his speed was slower than usual. A bit axle shift in the air on his 3A, and a shaky 3Lz. However, he's got over 79 for the first time outting this season. That was great! So the judges aren't throwing him away. He has a chance to be very good this season!

Haven't had chance to see others yet.

Yuzuru was underscored imo, mainly due to the lack of "authority". Still quite a good result for a teenboy. Go!
