hi everyone!! some of you might remember me from the time I asked about skates to buy, for those wondering, the jackson debuts were amazing and I went from only having waltz jump to having waltz toe sal and working on loops and half flips in 5 months!

my forum question:
recently today I was skating and doing drags, ive always had struggles with turning out my hip and going down but my coach put it in the Christmas performance program so I sucked it up and practiced it anyways. Unfortunately, during my drag I strained a muscle belt going from my hip to my knee, I can barely put pressure on the knee and my doctor gave me the okay to skate whenever I can walk normally , which she said would take 4 to 5 days. im also getting an x ray to make sure its nothing too bad. But, how can I do drags after this? especially for my Christmas program. im feeling nauseous just thinking about it. Should i just tough it out and do it for my program, or should i ask my coach to change it a bit. its a synchro/ group performance and thats why im scared to ask. ive always had a really big fear when It came to injuries and I didnt think it would happen so soon. please help me out, thank you!

I think you should ask your coach to change it for you because a drag is like an element that can be easily replaced b/c it's not like required (ex: like a jump or a twizzle sequence) and its also a Christmas program and not like a competition so it's better to just have fun with it yk? I hope your leg gets better! Skating is hard but you got this :)

I wonder if it would be better for your long term health to hold off on skating for a bit longer? I get that the doctor says it's OK, but having made the mistake once of returning to skating too quickly after an injury that overextended (and possibly tore) muscles, which made it worse, I would personally be cautious, and wait until the pain is gone.

I'd be curious what various coaches on this board would say about that.

hi!! i rested my leg for about 5 days with ice and heating, and after that I was pretty comfortable with skating, the pain was gone, I came to practice after those 5 days because it was important for the program, but I basically only stroked around and didnt jump, my coaches were really nice about it. Mentally I'm doing better but I think I'm forever scarred by drags, LOL!
