Michael Christian Martinez

Does that mean that he is trainning in US?

Yes he is. I agree that he has so many commitments in the Philippines that sometimes I wish he did not have to go home often because of the lack of skate time when he is around. But then again, it is a constant push and pull to generate interest on him and the sport then ultimately leading to his much needed funds.

Hello, I'm new (just got into the fandom in time for Sochi 2014 - because of this skater here) and looking forward to learn more about this sport.

Anyways, reading through the posts, it seems like we mostly have the same sentiments.

But recently, Michael has been pretty quiet in social medias and that actually kind of made me relieved because hopefully, it means that he is focusing his time on training in preparation for Skate America.

His competition in Lombardia hopefully shook all the jitters out of his system (for not officially training in around 4 months) and hopefully his body is now prepared for SkAm because the lineup there is strong and-- I am honestly scared. My friend and I just reviewed the lineup there for the umpteenth time and with his current skill level, I am afraid he had to battle it with his life on the line to be able to get into the top 6 for the GPF in all honesty (of course I want him to be in the GPF - who won't like that for their favourite skater).

I really hope he makes most of the 1 month he has in between Lombardia and SkAm and use it for training (because I swear if I found out he is dilly dallying, I might just file a leave from work and fly to the States to lecture this boy-- joke. But you get what I mean.). He already has the funds promised by SM (thank God! It took them long enough!) so... there's no reason for him not to dedicate his time to train anymore.

But Morozov is seriously his coach now? Why???

From what I've seen of MCM, he really gives it his all even with all of the setbacks. I just hope Morozov won't suck out his soul the way he seems to do with other skaters...:slink:

May I know the meaning behind "I just hope Morozov won't suck out his soul the way he seems to do with other skaters..."?
Like I've stated, I'm new to the fandom so I am not really knowledgeable when it comes to coaches. My apologies for my ignorance. :slink:

First reaction: Yiippeee Michael has finally his fan thread on GS!!

1 minute later: Yikes.. MOROZOV!!!?? WHYYYY?!!!!! :bang:

Hope it is not another $5k = 5 minutes effort cookie cutter program.

Well...I should probably include a caveat that I don't know the man, I can only observe how I've seen him with other skaters and draw conclusions from what I've read about him on forums. In a nutshell, he doesn't have the best reputation. A lot of that has to do with his relationships with his female skaters...some (most?) people would say he crosses professional boundaries there by dating quite a few of them. But with the male skaters he has coached, it seems to me that he also does a number on them psychologically. Maybe some of them were already headcases before they went to him, but he definitely didn't help them overcome that. I'm sure he isn't 100% bad, or nobody would go to him, but I would prefer almost any other coach for the skaters I like.

According to this, Michael's being coached by John Nicks & Ilia Kulik, and Morozov is only his choreographer. That's encouraging. :)

Thanks for the video! I have a strange feeling his costume doesn't match the music... It was surprising to see him fall on 3A, I thought it was a mastered jump for him.

I think he was quite surprised as well that he did not land it.... I enjoyed the program too, it seems better than the one in Lombardia. I wish he could hold his Ina Bauer longer though. Tomorrow is another day! Hoping too that he moves up in rankings.

His Ina Bauer was so brief if I blinked I would miss it, unlike Yuzuru's which is a highlight of the latter's programs. And that missed triple axel!:bang: Anyway what I love about Michael is how during the K & C, he always shows off the word Phìlippines or its flag on his jacket. :)

It seems like the reason he fell on his 3A was because of his ankle injury. Because looking at the review part, he landed it but his foot gave up on him.
Tho I am no specialist so these are mere speculations based on observation.

Anyway, it seems like they really polished his SP since there were a lot of new components in it, his Ina Bauer for example.

If only he wasn't injured... ah... he could have really landed that 3A and his score would totally be higher.

But! He really, /really/ did amazing and he totally looked happy and contented during the K&C unlike during Lombardia.

Not a good day for MCM today in Skate America. I think his POTO is starting to grow on me, I seem to like it better than last season. Too bad for his jumps though...

I wonder when he competes next since Skate America is his only invite for the GP circuit...

He's scheduled for the Warsaw Cup (Nov. 21-24). As sick as everyone is of POTO, I think his music cuts are better than any of the others I've heard this year. Yes, the jumps need a lot of work, but his spins and flexibility are superb. I'm sure he's working hard & will be a podium threat one of these days.
