I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that Michael wasn't exactly "all there". I don't think he ever had a chance to grow up normally and that effected him. Interviews Dateline has shown lately have him talking of some of the things he went through while his father managed the Jackson 5. Using Michael as the "performance example" sitting on the sideline during rehearsal holding his belt and hitting the child(ren) when they missed a step, turn, or note... Michael said he wasn't the one who got most of the whacks, but his dad made a point to say the others needed to be ore like him. That's a whole lot of pressure for an 8 year old boy. He's been part-adult, part-child since the early days... and no one expected more or less...
but then there are the songs that HE wrote, and some of the things he did/said... that makes you think he was perfectly 'normal' the lyrics speak deep down... and the dancing is all out adult (and way different than what he did as a child star lol)... so I just don't know...
emotionally I think he was all over the map, and he was exploited by all of those around him. Family and friends... as well as those parental "fans"...
what was telling in an unshown (until now) interview where Michael was saying from an early age he was taught how to be responsible with money, that every week a check would come and his dad would save most of it and give Michael a small allowance and he'd by "candy and gum"... now, in those days the check wouldn't be what Michael got later in his career but it wouldn't be pennies... and there's no way he'd blow a ton on candy at age 12 (which is the age he referred to hismelf as)... so how much of an allowance did this kid really get? Papa Joe's pocket?
And then they're in Vegas and his buying out this store of all of these gaudy things for one of his homes.... and no one is telling him it's "too much" (either price or for whatever he wants to do) and looking at the way he crammed his Neverland home... it just doesn't add up to wise spending and it's no wonder he was in debt!
it's not so much that I'm trying to nitpick, but it just goes to show that success in one's field does not make that person A success... yes Michael was "special" and "talented" and "great" at what he did, but aside from his kids was he truly happy? I don't think one could say he was even content with what he had.

Thanks for the info though.
