But if Misha doesn't land anything, I wouldn't put him on the team, simple as that.

Not landing anything is another matter, but even if he skates very poorly I still would tbh? Personal bias aside, I really don’t know why his spot on the team is still up for debate. Highest season’s best, highest mean score for the entire season, reigning world medalist, beat everybody but one in the SP as soon as he got out of the hospital. I believe this is Misha personally wanting to skate the free, and not Fed pressure, but if he needs to have a great performance to make the team then I am not going to be happy. Especially now that his health problems are out in the open and he has confirmed that it is impacting his skating. If he doesn’t podium, then there is a legitimate reason why, and the Fed should at the very least take it into consideration.

I'm mostly thinking about his own health. If he can't skate a barely decent program, maybe he should finally take a time off to rest and recover.

I know, I know, but the PCS breakdown is just astounding
It's how it normally works at Nationals. Misha still got the highest PCS, but there never is such a gap as would be at international competitions with CSKA skaters. Which is why I said they don't try to sink Misha but they do prop up others. Misha still won by a big margin even with a free skate like last season which was by no means brilliant. Now it's a different issue because he is sick and I don't think even he knows how much he can accomplish in the FS.

Um, so, he’s skating last tomorrow. :slink: Not like it will make much of a difference at this point, I guess :drama:

Go Misha! I would prefer if you didn’t skate, but if you must.....good luck and bull-fight those sinuses, as someone in the competition thread posted

If tomorrow goes like today, he’ll be able to skate last knowing that all he has to do is not trip to win.

Then again, I said even he wouldn’t trip through an open door at Rostelecom so what do I know?

Being invested in Misha is certainly a roller coaster, kind of wish I’d foreseen that before signing on ;) But again, I was proud of Misha today. That he went for everything and pretty much succeeded was remarkable given his condition. I’m relieved to hear that he’s being monitored by and in close communication with the medical team during this competition. I assume that the medical team is competent and conservative. (In full disclosure, my conservative assumption is based on personal experience from family members — father, two brothers, sister-in-law — and several close college friends, who are all physicians.) I find it difficult to believe that Misha, or his coach, would consider pursuing competing without clearance from, or against the advice of, the medical staff. This isn’t to say that his health isn’t a concern. I imagine Misha and his team have learned, or are learning, from this experience to address his ENT issues in a more timely way, with the same significance as an injury. Finally, I’m personally very sympathetic to Misha, Valentina, and company just wanting to focus on skating and training without the political and PR b***s***, as unrealistic as that may be, unfortunately.

Anyway, hoping for the best for Misha in the FS!

Sports medicine can't be as conservative as regular medicine of course because then no elite athlete would be allowed to compete, they are all damaging their health. But I hope they are at lest not telling him "do this and it's back to the hospital/you'll get chronic untreatable sinusitis for life/etc."

According to a mini interview on Channel 1, Misha was hospitalised and had surgery on Friday the 14th and was discharged on Monday the 17th. So we calculated correctly.

Which means he really has no business competing right now, but rules for regular people are not rules for elite athletes apparently.

I doubt there is spare processing power in his brain right now to get wound up about competing last. It's about survival.

I’m trying not to let my imagination run wild with all the things that could go wrong. He looked so wobbly in the SP that I have no idea how he is going to make it through the FS. Just hoping he pulls through safely, and will stop the program if he needs to.

Any info from today's practice?
hoping the layout is watered down to the bare minimum?

I haven't seen anything about his practice or program content. And after seeing what happened with Medvedeva (no injury or anything like that, just tragic), I am really starting to feel the panic kick in. Misha, please be safe

I am at work and can't concentrate at all making some silly mistakes and helplessly searching for a stuff I know I just saw on my desk this morning, I am literally all shaking, not a good sign, yesterday I was calm and kinda knew it would pan out well...:drama:

And another not so good sign - Stanislava did exceptionally well and I noted that they rarely 'follow' each other

Well, even though men's is starting soon, Misha won't be going on for quite some time. So I guess we should save some panic for then

Yes, I have noticed that too! But they both had good shorts, so maybe this competition will be the one to break the curse ;)
