Mikhail Kolyada

ahhhhhh he was so good!!! congratulations for an amazing SP and hopefully LP will be equally amazing too! he was selling that program from beginning to end , esp during stsq  can we add "flirty" to his ever-growing nickname?

Well he sure is flirty out there on the ice... but how on earth are we going to arrange that nickname now?
Flirty grumpy cat puppy quirky prince?
Flirty quirky puppy grumpy cat prince?
Grumpy cat quirky flirty puppy prince?

I can't even say some of these :laugh2:

i wonder if/how his peformances will affect his votes for TCC, i would love to see him there :sad21:

Me too, me too... but I also think he's too far behind. He had a long season though anyway, so maybe it's better he gets all the time to prepare for next season, he's not some unknown little talent anymore after all. No matter how he does in the LP, he's one of the russian front-runners now, after this season :)

MikaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! OMG!
Here we were talking about his rotten luck with the draw but he went out and just killed the competition. Wow!
I myself had quite a comic situation at home, I didn’t watch the sp live neither checked the results. I waited patiently till the following morning to watch it on BESP. I knew chances to see Mika (and record the program!) which were slim enough after I found out that there will be no live coverage turned into zero after that draw. Anyway there I was having checked for dozen times that recording is scheduled on my skybox and planning to make a cuppa and be ready for the 11.30am. At 11.25 I suddenly decided to turn the tv to check what’s happening on BESP1 –and to my astonishment saw Mika on the screen taking onto the ice I nearly screamed with the delight but to my horror noticed that the red signal on the sky box is off which means the program is not recorded. In total panic I pressed all the buttons on the remote – no good. As that was not enough, both the kettle & toaster chose that moment to give most horrendous sounds demanding attention. The next few moments went like in a dream - not taking my eyes off the screen for a moment I made one gigantic jump backwards to shut them up, the red signal mysteriously reappeared just when Mika’s music started and I fell into my armchair shaken and hardly able to take in what was happening in front of my eyes...

Mika thanks so much for wonderful excitement! So happy for you!!! And good luck for today!

I liked his SP interview especially the way his brows went up and eyes shone when the interviewer said that TAT compared his jumps to Baryshnikov’s – the way he hangs on in the air. He is just adorable.

Mika could do with the prize money so we will keep voting!

And I thought we decided to omit puppy, no?

Yes they did. They actually praised how good his technique is in his jumping. They also love his bailman spin. They like him

Thanks! They didn't show his SP at Euros so I wanted to hear what Johnny and Tara thought about his SP. I'll look for the video.

I also heard Match TV (maybe?) had a little interview with Johnny and he praised Mika.

The Japanese commentator, Takeshi Honda, didn't say anything particularly memorable but he did praise his jumps, flexibility in spins etc. I'm looking forward to hearing Daisuke's thoughts on Mika (he skated too early to get some comments from Dai in SP, damn)!

I'm still voting too, I'm just trying to see the bright side if it won't be enough ;)

Mhm... I'm sorry I included that puppy thing again if it was a problem - I have to admit I simply forgot about it. It really is a cute and rather complimentary thing where I live, so I forgot it had a bad connotation in Russia. I have no problem with leaving it out either and going with Flirty quirky grumpy cat prince

But I much preferred Mikhail Kolyada. I saw in his skating what I see in Yuzuru Hanyu. Jumps in his programs are not means to show that you are the best, but a natural part of a program. And the program itself is not endless jumping passes, but skating skills, the ability to show the feeling – a conversation with the audience, so to speak. Same as Daleman in the ladies event.

You know I like 'Flirty quirky grumpy cat prince' best - it has a rhythm in it!

BTW I meant to say about Mishin's interview - thank you Perdita as usual for all the links(!) it was not the classiest response from Mr Mishin, I am quite disappointed in him, if I didn't know better I would say he is jealous of Mika & Valentina's success :(

Well, he did say that he thinks Mika could do a quad lutz - and that he was especially happy for Valentina, because she had nurtured Mika from a young age, and he loved seeing that. I thought that was quite positive.

If Russian is not your first language, please take it from me it was not a nice comment from Mishin. I understand he has own agenda where Mika is concerned but I didn't expect such borderline on hostile comment.

He went through jumps in the runthrough but landed a gorgeous 4T around 19:28.

Re Mishin, I think it's usual that Mishin gives some (mostly valid) criticism to the rival skaters of his pupils and I actually really liked what he said about Chebotareva. I read it through Japanese translation someone kindly did so I could miss some nuance though.

Did he go through his jumps successfully? Unfortunately I can't watch video :c

He didn't attept jumps in the runthrough. Apart from the runthrough, he did quite a few double jumps, checking the positions. I at least saw him land 4T and 3Lz, I think he popped a 3A. He seemed keen to check spins and step, I think that's one of the reason he's constantly hitting level4s :yay:

Thank you for explaining very much! Hope everything will be okey today and Misha will hold his place or improve.

Oh my god just three points. But what can I say, Mika was just amazing! so proud of him and his coach. They did a lot of hard work:thumbsup:

I think the Russian Fed lost a chance to have a skater on the podium. If Mika had been pushed as number one as his performances this year suggested, the three-point difference wouldn't exist. He was amazing at COR, and better than Maxim at RN. Euros could have been better, but then he goes to his first worlds like this? WOW.

Fantastic competition for him. He has to take this huge accomplishment and run through that open door Kovtun left for him

Yes, yes, yes!!! I see a bright future for Mika. Congratulations for the big showings at Worlds.

I was so pleased with your two clean performances, not just with presentations, but also big jumps with a distance and nice flows!

Nice World's debut. Has shown he belongs and deserves some respect from the Russian federation.
