Mikhail Kolyada

Regarding TV comments about the missing flip - I have heard it mentioned that Misha doesn't do it because he can't get the correct edge. Would make sense considering his lutz.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BEmHEcYL99c/?tagged=teamchallengecup2016 I have no idea who the little girl is, but this is soooo cute! I admit I was hoping for pics of Mika & Fedor

The VK page only says it was one of young fans:)
Do you know that both Mika & Fedor come from the same suburb of St Petersburg called Kolpino? No wonder that they seem to get on so well. If you notice Mika was putting his hands over the head in the K&C like ^? Apparently it was originally a Fedor's special sign to greet home folks and now Mika is keeping tradition alive. I doubt Chris & others knew what they were doing but they were enthusiastic about it!

BTW I wonder how well Mika speaks English he seemed to interact with Chris so well in the K&C but in the interview he was obviously waiting for the interpreter to translate?

I knew they are both from St. Petersburg, but didn't know it was even the same district! And I know about the sign since I'm a big fan of S/K (as you can see from my avatar ;) ) and it was discussed in their FanFest. I figured Mika as a fellow skater from St. Petersburg is greeting same way, but you're right, apart maybe for other Russian skaters, the others didn't knew what they were doing  I saw it once used by Alexei Rogonov too, at Euros IIRC to greet Fedor as I assume, since S/K were absent :)
Regarding English, it's usually easier to understand foreign language than speak it, so maybe he knows some, but is not fluent enough to speak much?

Yes you are probably right it would be nice though for Mika to be able to communicate well in English but I guess skaters haven't got much time for learning languages.

I am wondering about next season programs it was mentioned in his last interview before TCC that he started working on the new programs which probably means that music choices are already made. It is just I have an interesting (I think so anyway haha) idea about music - it is one of less known soundtracks of Ennio Morricone - very charismatic -and I sooo want to send it to Mika - but how?:scratch2:

If you have VK page it's easy to do it. Is is possible to write Misha private message! :) Or we can publish it in our official group, Misha will see it!
BTW, seems, we gassed Misha's music for one of new programmes. He added few melodies from the film Charly and chocolate factory before starting making new programmes. Will see, if we are right or not... :)

Also, with the perfect jump technique everyone keeps raving about, I wish Misha's quads weren't so hit-and-miss overall. He obviously has no problem rotating them, but landings are another matter. I suppose it must be harder to land from such stratospheric heights. I hope this comes together somehow when he gets more quads.

yes sometimes it seems he jumps almost too high to land securely. But his 3A is huge too and he lands them like nothing. I think it is mostly a confidence issue, it's only first season he was doing 4T in competition once he has more mileage on it he will be more consistent it is not like there is anything wrong with his technique?
And I don't think he needs outside technical help but with choreo maybe. We all wish that quads would work easier for Mika but the reality is all other skaters struggle too for a while including the very top ones. One thing for Mika which sets him apart is that his are always fully rotated and so many skaters have UR issues.

Huh, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would be another Danny Elfman score from a Tim Burton movie. I like Elfman's musical style, and I liked how Kolyada skated to Nightmare, so I wouldn't mind, but I'd also like to see something different for a new season. Something powerful and strong. I know everyone says Rachmaninoff is such a warhorse, but I'm still waiting for a definitive program to the Prelude in C-sharp minor (piano version, not orchestral).

After the Team Challenge I've came to the conclusion that his triples are at the very high level, he did them almost all clean (exept the lutz in SP) just after about two days of prepairing to the event! Quads are obviously more tough, and he did them clean at Worlds and Russian Nats, where he tried to be in his peak form. It's not an easy task for anyone to make clean such a difficult element. In Spokane Misha it was looked like he gained a little weight, and didn't train hard. It's not a crime since he thought his season finished three weeks already. He couldn't be in a top form all the year. Now finnaly it's time for him for some rest and recover. Then I guess he will have fitness preparation, and then will try to make programms with two quads. I just wish him the best in his training and stay healthy and fit after all.

Misha is at University, Russian University courses as a rule include a foreign language. A different matter is how well you'll manage to learn it in the time that you are given (if it isn't your major), and, of course, it won't give you speaking practice.

Yes, a need for more experience and confidence was what he mentioned in an interview early in the season when he was having a lot of trouble stabilising his 4T, so hopefully it will come. And, of course, increased endurance if he wants to put a quad in the second half of the FS as he has said, and generally do less front-loading.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory - ? I hope not... Mika needs to step up a level if he wants to be competitive with the very top. But somehow I don't see him in classical music not yet anyway. Re Rachmaninoff it is only a warhorse because the skaters choose the same pieces again and again and again (as from the whole wealth of classical music in general)

According to Mika's VK his sp is one of six short programs nominated for the best short program on Icenetwork twitter - sorry cannot provide a link now.
Mika also is leading a poll for the best male skater in Russia in 2015-2016 - something like 86% more info on VK:

An interesting titbit - since we do not have a thread for Chebotareva I'll just put it here. There is somebody whose daughter trained with Chebotareva and a few other coaches while growing up. According to her, Chebotareva's group had a compulsory choreography class virtually every day and a folk dance and/or jazz class once a week. While some other coaches had choreo something like 1-2 times a week and not everybody bothered to show up. I think in Misha's case it definitely shows in his posture and lines.

P.S. Also their choreographer Olga Klyushnichenko is the one responsible for students getting level 4s on everything and she plays bad cop to Chebotareva's good cop a lot of the time

Thanks for sharing this info. Chebotareva certainly is the type of a coach who aims and plans long term (as it should be) as opposed to getting fast results at any cost. I also read that she is highly respected by parents for her caring approach - there are not many injuries in her group.
There are quite a few statements from Russian skaters in the recent days about the programs for the new season (Yulia, Liza, Maxim, Adelina) but not a word from Team Mika ;)

That was some quick army service. A week? Seriously? You are supposed to do a year. Or get a deferral if you continue your studies. This seems to be some strange hybrid of the two.
