Mikhail Kolyada

I was looking through Mika's VK fan page and came across this interview in the FS magazine taken sometime after Vienna, I don't think it was posted before:

I would be a scientist'

Many thanks Mika for liking Estonia best!!!

That was some quick army service. A week? Seriously? You are supposed to do a year. Or get a deferral if you continue your studies. This seems to be some strange hybrid of the two.

I found this article explaining it a bit (I still not totally clear though):
http://news.sportbox.ru/Vidy_sporta...inskoj_prisagi_novobrancev_sportivnyh_rot_CSK

It seems to me that's this service not limited to one week. The athletes get assigned to some TSKA military units and that gives them opportunity to serve without interrupting the training

Interview with Ilia Averbuch with a recap of the past season:

http://www.gazeta.ru/sport/2016/05/25/a_8264807.shtml

About Mika:

'There were certain disappointments in the men’ discipline this season but there were some positive moments. Like Mikhail Kolyada’s performance. I think he has a very good potential for great results. It is evident that Mikhail is very well taught specifically his jump elements. And if he can add in PCS, if he gets an interesting program and Kolyada improves in spins & step sequence – then it will be absolutely competitive'

Okay one can argue about PCS but what's wrong with Mika's spins? :scratch2: Has he seen his protocols at all?

Yeah, it sounds like Mika has only jumps, which is not true. The jumps were Kovtun strategy this season. Either he mixed them up or he hadn't watched the programs closely...

No I don't think he mixed them up - politicking as per usual I guess... lots of praise to the future star, Adian, later on

Ah, so maybe just jealous that Mika's jumps worked better than Adian's :p I have nothing against Adian, though. Would be nice to see both of them at least in Europeans :) If Ilia Averbuch think that what Adian needs is politicking then no comment. People have eyes, we all have seen how well Mika did without any politicking, and how season ended up for politicked Kovtun (not his fault though, the politicking may have actually hurt him in a way).

Well the less hype around Mika the better imho. And Averbuch can praise other skaters as much as he likes even if they were out with the injury the most of the season, it is okay. But not to give credit when credit is due to other skaters who are not as fortunate as to be 1) TSKA or at least 2) Moscow is ridiculous. Does he expect Mika to get level 5 on spins in order to 'improve' and please him? Or maybe he disappointed not to be asked to choreo for Mika?

I actualy think Mika may be fortunate to NOT be in CSKA or Moscow. As you said, the less hype. There is no person in this world who pleases everyone, and we know that Mika at least pleases Plushy

Yes, apart from the resources CSKA doesn't seem to be an especially good environment for a skater to develop. Too much politicking and pressure. And he is also lucky that TAT didn't notice him a few years ago and decide that he urgently needs more quads, because look where it got Kovtun. There are definite advantages to being out of the limelight.

As for Averbuch, he seems unable to talk about Misha without bringing up more talented Pitkeev. And it started before Misha would have had a chance to ask him for choreography. What it is all about I do not know, but I think Misha can survive without Averbuch being his biggest fan.

https://www.facebook.com/figureskatingmag/posts/10154831153627538 The IFS magaizne will feature an interview with Mika! :hap10:

It seems that the interview with Tatjana Flade has been published in German magazine Pirouette but to access it online one has to pay:(

However thanks to the VK we can see it here:

There is Russian translation in Mika's VK but I guess it won't be long before it will be in the IFS magazine.
The news is that Mika has no programs yet for the new season.
And he's had no holiday either as he has been busy doing his final exams at Uni. I had no idea he is already in the final year!

Hm, what is this talk again in the article about Kolyada losing almost two seasons due to a series of injuries? TAT also kept talking about him losing two seasons with two fractures. I have never heard him or Chebotareva refer to any injuries other than (singular) ankle fracture in July 2014, which took him out for most of the 2014-2015 season. He was competing in 2013-2014, just didn't have the best of luck. I am not sure where the idea comes from that there was something physically wrong with him then.

I read google translation of Russian translation and there was nothing new much. It was written more in the manner for the people who really saw him first time in WC or something, but not really any news for his fans.

Yeah, and the news would be so welcome - the off-season seems to be endless!
I am a bit worried that Mika had no opportunity to rest at all and had the final exams on the top of the very long & busy season.
I hope that Olga has some choreo done for him at this stage and the article is just inaccurate on this point as well as his injuries - really, these journalists - never can get the story right!

Misha has mentioned in an interview that he was writing his diploma project this year, so I assumed it was his final. I was actually wondering what was up with his final exams, nice to get some info. He must be doing a four year course (Bachelor's). Traditional Russian University courses are 5 years in length, but it has changed somewhat with introduction of the Bachelor/Master system at some Universities.

This interview was taken during worlds, so some information have already changed. For example, when Misha recognised he had to go on TCC instead of Kovtun he said he was working on new programmes. Also as Stanislava Konstantinova said he ended working on them before holidays.

By the way, I think it's good he graduate from University this year, because the olimpics are going to be in to years and now he can focus on sport. It's really hard to be successful in sport and in studing at the same time.

And some more news. Misha will start training on 14 June and on 26 June his group will go on camp for three weeks.
