Mikhail Kolyada

Misha's new interview with Elena Vaitsekhovskaya:

http://www.sport-express.ru/figure-skating/reviews/mihail-kolyada-ehal-na-chempionat-rossii-kak-na-prazdnik-1080482/

Some interesting info:

Doing a 4Lz is much harder physically and mentally. When he is asked how many times out of 10 he can do 4Lz successfully and whether it’s possible to do such a hard jump 10 times in a practice session, he says that there was a day when he jumped 4Lz 8 or 9 times and the next day he could barely stand and everything was swimming in his head. His back and legs hurt and he couldn’t think. While he can jump 4T 10 times without problems.

He was prepared for a fall on 4Lz in the FS as it wasn’t stable and he didn’t yet feel confident so it didn’t throw him off too much.

At the moment they have decided to train 4Lz 15 min per practice session to prevent it from taking over the entire training process as happened at the beginning.

They did try to fight for the new SP but it wasn’t successful. Now he is OK with doing the old one.

Currently he does 4S twice per practice session and is not planning to put it into competition programs this season, but hopes to do so next season. His ultimate goal is 4Lz and 4S in the first half of the LP and 4T in the second. Currently he is having some trouble physically with doing even two quads but believes that with enough proper training he can achieve his goal.

Yes, now it opens.

And it is blocked again unfortunatly. Sorry. What I wanted to say with those video: If you turn on Queen's The Show must go on right after the first jump attempt in Mika's FP it could bring the programm kind of unconvencional look. However modern rules on video hostings do not allow to post things like this.

So, to put here something more significant, here are translations of quotes of Valentina and Stanislava about Mika

Misha and me working together since his first steps in figure skating. At those time he practiced with Aleksandra Stepanova, who won in silver today with Ivan Bukin in dances. Misha and Sasha were in the same group in a kindergarden also. I've liked him as a sportsman from the first sight. He already looked very promising. He was interesting, vivid, active, positive. It was a pleasure to work with him. It was actually a hard way, however. At the some stage other coaches had seen his abilities. They invited him few times promising him a big advance improving results quickly. However Misha made a decisions himself. And he made his choice staying with me, with our little team. I am thankfull to him for this very much.

-Some specialists recommend him to change his style...
But why we should do it? He has his own style. He is interesting in it, undoubtly. People like it, judging their reaction. It would be wrong to change him, making him like everyone else. I know him, his abilities, what he is able to do, what is difficult for him. Now he has a style like this. But we are seeking, we are trying something new. So far he is interesting in this direction, which he is showing now. The sportsman must be himself. We discuss with him everything from the begining. Trying to find some movements, to add something new. We do not dictate him what he should do. We working together - Misha, Olga Klyushnichenko and me. Of course, it is mostly Olga's merit, thanks her for everything!

His task for this season is learning and making consistent three Quad jumps. At practicies he is doing Salchow, Toeloop, and Lutz, but only Toe he makes consistent at his perfomances. His goal at Nationals was to win it, and he did it. Now he should perfome well at the main International events. He is able to fight for the medal at Europe Championship.

For me Misha is a role model of how to do everything your way, not to chase anyone. Always to be a (fair?) human being and keep your own opinion. After my SP he critisized me for mistakes, he always discusses programs with me, analyzes them, and gives me advices. Thanks him a lot for this!

He likes tangerines and eats only 3? I once ate 10 when I was a child, but then my parents started worry I'll get unwell and forbidden me to eat more than 4 :p

Nice interview, thanks for sharing the link :)

So nice from Mika to be a mentor for younger Russian skaters :) Good for Stasya  Could be one of the reasons behind her good start at Nationals.

Very interesting interview, also I am glad that he has command over things he wants to do and is doing that on his own terms.

LOL, I somehow missed the word "kilos" :hslap: I know tangerines are mandarins :) (I think "tangerine" term is more used, because "mandarin' can also describe language or other things) And I always like dthem, happy to know Mika can eat to his heart content at least once a year
