Mikhail Kolyada

I just hope Misha isn't injured. That fall looked painful.

It's interesting that according to accounts he landed two great quad lutzes in the official practice. But it seems there might be a mental block when it comes to competitions, he expects to fall so he falls. I think he put the quad lutz in the competition programs too soon which raised everyone's expectations, and I am still not sure how much of it was Misha's and Valentina's choice.

I hope so too though a broken spirit is not easier to 'fix' than a physical injury...
I am sad but not surprised from the moment I saw that statement from Valentina about 5 quads I knew the season would be a rough one. If they can not withstand the Fed pressure and must do what they are told, I'd at least try to change a layout of Sp for:
3A, 4T-3T, 4lz
It might looks silly but if he has no energy to do a quad in the second half of the short, he has no hope to get through the long with three planned quads & two
3As. The pros are - his 3A is his money jump (when his head in not messed up), get this done and have 10 points in the bag and a bit of confidence boost, the combination is very consistent too - if done - another confidence boost and then for the feared lutz, it might well work when the whole program is not dependant on it as a first element (and IF it does + nice 10% bonus as an extra carrot) if not -a triple lutz would be okay or even a fall on rotated 4lz would not bring the WHOLE program down.
What do guys think? Of course that would require some tweaking of the choreo but something has to change anyway...
So far the only consolation he took a part in a draw, he is to skate first in the penultimate group. He is only 10 points from the 3rd Sp finish - anything still possible.

I think it's not so much that he has no energy to do a quad in the second half of the SP, it's that he won't be able to do that particular quad. I don't think anyone does a 4Lz in the second half of the SP, and that's probably for a reason. People who do a quad lutz in the Short do it as a first element. And it's really up to Misha whether he's going to allow an unsuccessful 4Lz to bring down the entire program (provided he doesn't sustain physical damage, of course).

Also, really happy about lvl4s in everything. And the other triples looked like an afterthought for him, because we've seen Misha struggling with them from time to time.

I'm wondering if he's going for a 3t after the 3a, and maybe a 2A in sequence to his last 3lz, and that would be a fantastic program.

Misha set a new personal and Russian TES record in the FS - 98.26. And that after falling twice, losing a combo and some smaller mistakes.

Ha ha when I said anything still possible - I was hoping that somehow he might take bronze but the gold did seem to be out of reach... though hopes started to rise quickly after that score. So wonderful to see two great 3As and 3-3 combination and that 4sal was so close. Love the program and can't wait to see it on the big screen properly.
Congratulations, Mika on your first CS win and most of all overcoming that mental block! Sometimes one needs to hit the bottom it seems. That lutz was a thing of beauty -thank you!!!!!

Note: out of all the winners only Mika received Ondrei Nepela's Trophy :hap10: :yahoo:

Edit: like v much that alteration to his FS costume - it still gives a touch of colour but more subtle

Did he said "I am sick of popped jumps already"?:) Yeah, his FP was not perfect but he manage to prove many things for himself and for us: that he can do a clean 4Lz in the programm, that he could rotate three quads in the programm, and not popping any jump in it, and that he can take himself together after a rough start. Still a lot work he has to do, but he made me a bit more happy with this perfomance, thanks him a lot!

Yes, he said that he is fed up with popping jumps also said that he needs to do more full runthoughs as doing an element on its own is much easier. But I am so impressed with his stamina he must have worked very hard in off season. You could not imagine him doing three quads in LP before, two 3As, 3-3 combination and still have energy for choreo.
Fnlandia next week where he will face Jin & Vincent thats going very interesting as both also have 4lz

Actually his stamina impressed me more than his beautiful 4Lz. If somebody told me 6 months ago that Mikhail would skate 3 quads program with two 3 As and doing actual choreo at the end of the program I'd have called him/her mad. I love Mika but stamina was one of his main problems and I was extremely worried when I heard about new strategy.

So was I but not anymore! Unless it was the anger that fuelled him :) but I don't think so... I also feel that for the first time the music actually works for him not against, inspiring and carrying him through the LP. I never felt it before with any of his programs, well maybe with his Nu Pogodi to some extent. And he looks so good and confident in his new costume :luv17:
