Mikhail Kolyada

Have I posted this interview with Simonenko?? Too much stuff going on, I'm kinda lost now
http://m.sovsport.ru/gazeta/article-item/895307
He says he's attepting 4Lz in practice, with enough rotation but have not landed one yet. He says he'll upload the video on SNS if he manages to land one. That's great but no injury please...!

Thank you for all the interviews! He comes across as quite thoughtful and good-hearted. And the way he describes getting himself angry before he competes and keeping unnecessary thoughts at bay during the performance - wow. I can think of several skaters I would send to him for advice on handling the psychological side of competing.

I love this kid. Definitely my favorite Russian singles skater! :hap10:

I've been avoiding the forum since I am still catching up with all the disciplines (haven't watched Pairs LP & Dance yet!)

CONGRATULATIONS to Mika & Valentina on their amazing achievement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cheer:

Still dazed by the outcome of men's competition but Mika in 4th ,3 points from the podium - makes for all other disappointments ten fold!!! So so happy fro him & Valentina!

I was very nervous before the LP I thought he wouldn't be able to skate clean as in SP (sorry Mika for not believing in you).
British Eurosport spoiled things big time by not showing mens Lp at scheduled time at all (but plenty of snooker) and only 4 top programs later in the evening. Shame on you Eurosport!!! I cursed in 4 languages that morning and nearly threw the remote into TV.

So I found out first that he finished in 4th and only then watched it. Maybe it was better that way - my poor heart would not have stood the strain!
His face when he took onto the ice showed such steely determination I don't think we've seen before - he meant business! in fact i would not have liked to cross his path at that moment!
What a quad - beautiful effortless ...same with 3A - it is like everything finally came together and resulted in this magnificent performance. You are incredible Mika! And like others here I am proud of myself that I recognised your talent the first time I saw you at COR and followed your incredible journey since...

Congrats to Perdita and the all our little community on this thread - I know you all are as happy as I am... tears of joy...

Reading the Men's FS thread it is heart-warming to see how many liked Mika and many even think he deserved the bronze!

I'm a new fan! Mikhail skated absolutely fantastic in both programs. Congratulations!

I am not sure if I have ever seen a competitior finishing at 4th place but skating the short program in the first group.

His jumps are rock solid and he is a very talented, natural performer as well. Can't wait to cheer for him in the next seasons.

I noticed Mika during the Euros this season (anyone skating on Nightmare Before Christmas get a special attention from me :p) and I already really liked him so seeing him doing soooo well on his first Worlds and ending 4th makes me extremely happy ! i'll have to read this thread to catch up on all the interviews and stuff to get to know him more but he definetely won his place on my faves list :D

I'm so happy he gained a lot of fans at the Worlds, and a huge welcome to every new poster! Yay :yay:

If you would like to know more about him, go visit the fabulous OP made by me ;) and you'll find his competitive history with links to the protocols and the videos, and also the list of all the articles and interviews I could find (and I swear it's worth the time - he and his coach give very insightful interviews.).

I'd like to recommend you to read the two English articles published this season:
Russia’s Mikhail Kolyada breaks through by GS
Kolyada shows different side of Russian skating by Ice Network
and a Russian article about the journey of Mikhail and his coach Chebotareva (Translation by Tutto):
Loyalty has helped skater and coach for the first time in the dream team for the European Championship

Welcome to all the new Mika supporters from me too - look at how many pages his FF has gotten in such a short time! Let's make it even more!:cheer:

And yes, that OP is fabulous ;)

^^ Desperately trying to catch a recruiter's eye to get a job as a Kolyada specialist

Newly uploaded CBC version of his LP:

Kurt says Mika lands his jumps "with very 'cocky' attitude... almost challenging you to think he was ever gonna miss that jump."

Ha ha Mika said in one interview that it was April's Fool Day and that he fooled us all!

Anyone has a video of a warm-up before the LP by any chance?

Thanks a mil Perdita!

Reading all the interviews looks like many think that Mika's success is due to the fact that there was no pressure on him to skate well. I think its wrong. There was a lot of pressure to prove to the fed that he was worthy of the place on the World team for the start and all kind of pressures. One only needs to look at his face before the LP!
Rukavitsin's comment I especially 'liked' - he said that Mika hasn't done anything extraordinary -he simply did what he could do and turned out that that was enough:

Immediately one wants to ask if that is so simple why his own skaters don't produce 2 clean skates back to back all the time? (in fact NEVER)

I too think there was pressure - maybe less in the SP; but after having skated such an excellent SP, and having suddenly been moved up from the first group to the last, in the midst of all medal contenders... at his first Worlds'... in front of "all the world" so to speak... How could there not be pressure?
