Mikhail Kolyada

I'm very happy for Misha, but for fall which means -3, he got +1 and +2 :laugh2:
I guess those judges were delighted with the jump height :agree:

i know right?? a +2 for a fall, this only happens in Russia :)

Congratulations for Mika!!!

Misha did great nevertheless, but I can't believe they actually broadcast an ad during Misha's skate. On one of the Russian forums a journalist who is going to be at the press conference was asked to ask Misha how it affected him. We'll see if it'll come up.

Turns out that the journalist asked Misha that question after the press conference and Misha replied that he had heard an extraneous noise and couldn't really understand what it was at first - maybe particularly loud spectators? Later he got that there was a sound mix-up and afterwards it was explained to him that it was a Rostelecom ad. He also said that it didn't throw him off as luckily it was during a step sequence. [but still, :dev2:]

Misha's interview. He says he still hasn't realised he's the Russian Champion [and people complain that he doesn't react emotionally enough - stuff like that takes a while to sink in for him. Frankly, that type of nervous system seems better for competitions than the skaters' who start crying with joy right on the ice]. He adds that to be honest he has made some quite serious mistakes, but on the whole he is satisfied, the skate went very well. But there is always room for growth.

Valentina's interview. She is a lot more talkative than Misha right now:

"It was my life's goal to bring up a Russian champion and I have achieved it. Now we need to raise the bar, next is the European Championship and stabilising the quads.

Right now Misha can jump three quads: salchow, lutz and toe. But only the quad toe is stable, the other two are hit-and-miss. So we need to stabilise all the jumps. And if we can achieve three stable quads, we will be competitive at the international level.

At the European Championship Misha plans to do quad lutz and quad toe. But we'll see, there is still a month to go. In practice Misha can do quad salchow easily bit we are not including it in the competition programs for the moment.

The start of the season was difficult, but it must have been meant to be that way. Difficulties only make us stronger and more resilient. Everything was business as usual. We accepted the negative comments about the new short program, agreed that the old program was really better. We like it, and Misha had liked it from the previous season, so it was easy to go back to it. Of course at first he was a little hurt that his new short program was not perceived as good enough. But in reality he likes his old program a lot, you can see that he performs it with joy."

Congratulations on the first Russian National title! So well deserved! I highly enjoyed his performances. Good luck at Europeans, too!

Yup, congrats Misha! It's amazing he won by such a big margin while not being clean :)

Everyone else messed up more. Of course Misha's scores were inflated, but those of some other skaters even more so, so even if everyone was "cut down to size" there would still be a large margin.

So happy for Misha. Congratulations and best of luck at Europeans!

I'm not questioning his huge margin win ;) I'm actually really amazed that it happened. I mean, that splatting, that even while Misha not being clean, he still won comfortably. It tells you something about Russian Men though.

Someone in this thread said a while ago that Misha would win even with falls on both quads in the FS if he was clean otherwise. That is almost what happened.

It was premoniton then! Seriously though, I love everything about Mika skating :luv17:

The thing is, although he wasn't totally clean on his triples, he still did a pretty clean program with almost all the content, and that's important too. A nice improvement from early in the season.

And you are right about the Russian men, virtually all of them appear unable to handle pressure. Samarin seems reasonably mentally stable but there is so much work to do especially on the PCS side. And artistic Aliev is way too prone to headcasing. Lazukin deserves maybe the highest PCS after Misha in that competition but he so rarely delivers (although he is improving) and nobody is going to give him fair PCS till he does. An upside in his case is that his reasons seem to be largely physical and maybe if his stamina is brought up to the required level he would start doing better. Hopefully the fourth place would give him the motivation to work harder, he is so lovely to look at, we need more Russian men who are a joy to look at. And of course Pitkeev may never return. There are some young juniors who look hopeful but it'll take a while for them to get to a serious level.
