Mikhail Kolyada

Misha, Petrov etc were shown at the stands @ pairs LP broadcast:biggrin: complete with his sweet smile:love:

There was a totally off-topic conversation started in the Russian Nationals Women's FS thread about Lambiel offering to do choreo for Misha, so as not to continue hijacking the thread I am posting here. After the new SP debacle the Fed promised to supervise Misha's choice of programs from the beginning and not starting two weeks before the test skates. Whether it means inviting outside choreographers I am not sure but possibly.

It's better this way, then. I do think they are going to try new things, different things from what he showed so far, especially with his EX being lyrical. And ofc, it wouldn't hurt to have an outsider working with him.

Misha's message: "I want to express my deepest gratitude to our wonderful team, all my family and friends who have cheered for me and supported me!!! A huge thank you to the fans who supported me during the program when there was a technical malfunction!!! We have done it together! I LOVE YOU ALL✌💚 "

Misha's new interview with Elena Vaitsekhovskaya:

Some interesting info:

Doing a 4Lz is much harder physically and mentally. When he is asked how many times out of 10 he can do 4Lz successfully and whether it’s possible to do such a hard jump 10 times in a practice session, he says that there was a day when he jumped 4Lz 8 or 9 times and the next day he could barely stand and everything was swimming in his head. His back and legs hurt and he couldn’t think. While he can jump 4T 10 times without problems.

He was prepared for a fall on 4Lz in the FS as it wasn’t stable and he didn’t yet feel confident so it didn’t throw him off too much.

At the moment they have decided to train 4Lz 15 min per practice session to prevent it from taking over the entire training process as happened at the beginning.

They did try to fight for the new SP but it wasn’t successful. Now he is OK with doing the old one.

Currently he does 4S twice per practice session and is not planning to put it into competition programs this season, but hopes to do so next season. His ultimate goal is 4Lz and 4S in the first half of the LP and 4T in the second. Currently he is having some trouble physically with doing even two quads but believes that with enough proper training he can achieve his goal.

I'm so glad he won! He totally deserves it. I think his programs and style are quite interesting still I'm excited for what comes next for him, maybe working with an outside choreographer could help to showcase his versatility and become even better. :hap10:

Well, with those three different quads, and his quality, he can be a contender to the podium, I have no doubt. Let's hope for good things to come!

His problem once again is going got be stamina, it seems to be an uphill battle for him. He can do great jumps in isolation but doing them without dying towards the end of the LP is a different matter. And of course as has been said here such huge jumps are extra draining.

Well, for what's worth he has been getting better in regards of that - if you compare his earlier outings in the season to this last LP, it was a good improvement. And of course, he has to get used to competing with those quads, because it's not like he's ready to put them out there hitting 10/10.

Yes, his form is improving, but even the fact that it's taking so long says something. His baseline is too low at the moment. Of course his 4Lz needs a lot more work, and his 4S seems to be problematic at least as far as competitions are concerned, but three quads are out of the question even if he could somehow do three 4T.

Yes, he still has quite a long way. He can beat a meltdown Mr. Fernandez though.

Well, this is only the second season the world has heard of Misha and the second season of him doing any quads in competitions (he could do them in practice a few years earlier but could not stabilise them to his coach's satisfaction, and then of course he broke his leg). Misha also has said that he is not a fast learner so it's too early to make any pronouncements (this is a bit off-topic here but the same thing was said by Samarin so he should be given time too). The main this is that Misha is healthy and hopefully he will stay that way.

This is really important, and it seems like something Valentina and the staff really cares about. It doesn't do him any good to make the quads only to burn out later on. Slow and steady is the way.
