Mikhail Kolyada

Mika's practice was a mixed bag - some excellent 3As some pops, good 4T-3T but 4lz didn't go well. The draw is in a hour time!

Well, Ok, let's hope he would do better tomorrow. Good luck, Mika! Just do your best here!

lol I need a safe haven from pushy Jason Brown fans in the Mens thread (which is a strange feeling b/c I like him)

Super happy for Misha's skate:luv17: he was sooooooo serious after the performance!
Super worried for the free:slink:
I hope he will do all the jumps.

93,28 - it's very good. I'm so happy for him and his team!
Unfortunatly, I couldn't watch it live, and the biggest surprise, it isn't an easy task to find any video of his skate! That's so pity...

However, it is not so important. I've read in Russian articles that he will try a Quad Lutz again, and Misha will try 3Lz-1/2L-3S instead of 3S-2A combo. Best luck in the FP!

Mika is making me hope for good result. And maybe a miracle 3 spot for Olympics :p Anyway, congrats Mika! Seems like he does heis best when it counts the most :cheer:

So happy for Mika and to see him smiling in K&C is soo good! :yahoo:
Fingers & toes crossed for tomorrow!!!
Just read a live report - the practice went well, a new combination was good, twice landed 4lz to the crowd's delight (including Tomas Verner) but in a run-through a fall on 4Lz

Super nervous for tomorrow- just do your best Mika and good luck!!!:luv17:

He is very charming to watch always bring smile to my face that I never care about his score. Ah his free skate is very tough, hope he doesnt crumble.

I think, as I said before, the fall on the 4lz doesn't bother me at all if he pushes through the program - just like at RNats. I think this is where he really needs to work on. I just hope he's on a better mindset than at Euros. I just want him to go home happy with what he did.

I'd really really like Mika to land 4Lz in competition. Not only for the sake of points but it'd be extremely important to him - after months of hard work and unsuccessful attempts in competitions he'd finally do it! Not to mention when he lands his 4Lz it's just a beauty.

To be honest I was wondering that they might take it out and replace with another 4T but Mika is a fighter he would not give up!
Yes it would be a huge confidence boost if he lands it - even a step-out would be okay. And hoping he will have stamina for a new combination in the second half too. All we can do is to root for him and hope the skating gods will be good to him tomorrow - he soo deserves it after a difficult season and all the hard work he put in...Sending out lots of love and support :cheer2:

All is over so quickly! A miracle in a way of a clean LP did not happen but it was far from a disaster! On the positive side:

  • a brilliant SP and a new SP PB
  • Total SB after a difficult season
  • 2 spots for Olympics!! (3 were out of reach even with a perfect LP anyway)
  • Prize money for 8th place
  • Status Russia No 1 confirmed on the biggest stage of all
  • Status No 8 in the world confirmed

To sum up - a lot to be proud of ! Hope Mika looks at it the same way - chin up! What I liked about his LP was that he got his 4T perfect after the fall on 4lz - for the first time this season, and he fought for the rest of the jumps and kept the performance level intact. It is his 3A that upsets me most... Apparently one of his best jumps somehow became the weakest link while dealing with all the pressure of this season. It is hard to watch and I only hope they will find a way to dealing with it in the off season.
Now I wonder will he go to a team event in Japan?

I think it was a good competition for Mika. A pity about the 3A, otherwise I think this would be a pretty fantastic effort. There's time to work on it, and on the 4lz, which was the closest to landing in competition for him. Other than that he didn't let the program die, which is a good thing. Also, it shows how he likes the cheers behind him, you could see how he smiled when they started clapping. His PCS need to rise, but that's the price of consistency, which only he can do something about.

I highly enjoyed Mika's both performances at the World Championships. His SP is brilliant and I think both programs really suit him.
His new PB score for his SP is huge, 4 points better than what he scored last year in Boston.

He's the type of skater who always brings smile on my face. And when he's in good mindset and they crowd supports him you can see that he is more comfortable on the ice, he smiles a lot and skates with less pressure I think.

Great to know he'll go to WTT, I would like to watch those two programs again.

p.s. I loved the banner at Worlds ;)

Mika didin't land 4Lz in competition yet, but he will. And then it will be glorious. (though I have to say Boyang Jin's one is glrious too) And the PCS will come to him by itself:biggrin:

What I wish for Mika is to Rus Fed to stop put pressure on him and no stupid things like changing program to old one two weeks before test skates... Everything else he can achieve by work :)

I think Mika has been sending a clear message to the Fed - practically in all his recent interviews he emphasised that he does not like to be rushed and likes learning things at his own pace, so hopefully 1) someone in Rus Fed takes note 2) Mika & his team learned their lesson too and would withstand the pressure better now when they have more experience

I didn't manage to drop in before (because I was all over the place while being in Helsinki), but I really, really enjoyed seeing Mika live! He did a good job overall and I hope he leaves Helsinki proud of himself and with more confidence.

The SP was really fun - he's one of those skaters who really communicate with the audience and the crowd loved him for it. His jumps made my jaw drop! He did the 4T3T in my corner, and while the 4T wasn't landed perfectly, he shoot up into the air again and had so much spring, he opened up that 3T so far above the ice! I went completely  seeing it. Even more with his 3Lz - that jump was basically fully rotated after less than 3/4 of the time he spent in the air! It's ridiculous! His way of moving is also pretty unique and gives him something special, and he has nice charisma and glide across the ice.
It's a shame he had trouble with the 3A again, while it's normally such a strong jump for him. But I'm not too worried about that... I'm sure it's related to him feeling the pressure and more a 'mental problem', if he gets a bit more confidence back and doesn't tense up going into it, it will be fine again. I'm a bit more worried about his stamina, because you could see him running a bit out of gas (even in the SP, at the end of the steps) and that IMO contributed to his jumping trouble in the LP. The sophomore season is always difficult though, and he fought through it very well. I'm sure he learned a lot this season, can use all these experiences well for the Olympic season and can be even better than he already is

Special mention to the fact that he is an absolute cutie! He was so adorbs in the KnC after his SP, and it was so cute when he reacted to the standing ovation after the SP... he looked so happy :luv17: And as a Yuzu fan too, his reaction to Yuzu's LP was just A+:luv17:
