Mikhail Kolyada

I'd say Dima for SP and Mika for FS. Both have similar results in SP point-wise, but Dima's average score for FS is probably less than 160 for this season while Mika usually gets over 175 points

I would not be surprised if Mika is to skate both though I hope not as he might burn out even before the individual event starts. Either way it is going to be nerve wrecking and in the middle of night! I can't watch all night and then go to work but then again how one can go to sleep?- tough decisions to be made!

I actually hope that both Mika and Dima will skate in team event. Well, we'll see. Before I thought that ID and Pairs will have different couples for Short and Free, but now I think it's more porabable that T/M and B/S will skate both segments, because there is too much points wise difference between the other couples.

Thanks for the link!
From accounts I read on Russian forums it seems that Mika did 4T, 4T-3T and 4S but no mention of 4lz - did they decide to take it out?!
The height and quality of his jumps were universally admired by the spectators...

Meanwhile there are reports of a stomach bug at the Games with 5 athletes and some personnel reported sick and some are in hospital. As there was not enough to worry about :drama:

I also hope not. Aliev seems to get some consistency since the Nationals although he is not known for his consistency though. Point-wise, Mika's higher scoring potential is bigger but as long as Aliev can deliver a cleanish FS, I hope Mika to run only SP.

My guess is they'll split the men given what's happened in pairs and ID. I just hope Misha (and Dmitri too) skates well whichever he skates. I personally hope Misha skates the sp, because I love that program, but I'll be a nervous wreck if he does especially after what happened at Euros. It's interesting that he wasn't seen practicing quad lutz when that's improved over the season compared to quad sal.

According to this:

Mika will join Mozer's team today (T/M and Z/E left Japan last night) so it seems very certain that he is to skate SP.
I so hope he would be able to calm the nerves somehow (the team event is becoming a bit of a joke as no one seems to want to take part anymore!) and try to use it as an opportunity to test the Oly ice.
That virus epidemic sounds scary - I wonder if they can prepare the food themselves?

So it's about 30 hours before his competitons start... Oh, I feel I'd be too nervous next couple of weeks, so now I just want to congrate Mikhail, he made such a tremendous job to be here, in the Olympic games, came through so much troubles, pressure, pain for so many years to be here! Whatever he will show next days I'm proud of him. And I'm so happy for Valentina too, she did a tremendous job too, I think she had been dreaming to come here even more, like 40 years! And very soon he will skate at the Olympic rink... I just wish them both to enjoy this moment, to skate his best for Mikhail and the best of luck to him!

— We arrived only yesterday in the evening. We prepared and got through acclimatization on a training camp in Japan. Everything was organised perfectly. And open trainings were useful for our athletes. The guys already got used to the time, they feel good. Mikhail enjoyed skating the first training on the Olympic ice.

The coach added that there will be a change in Mikhail's free program. Two quad toe loops are planned instead of quad salchow.

— Of course everybody worries. For most of them these are the first Olympic games. But everything is okay.

I feel happy about this. Clearly the salchow is still not good anough to be performed in competition yet - though, he loses some BV now with the return of the 2A. Hopefully this change won't throw him off.

I remember a lot of people here wanting him to do two 4Ts instead of the 4S; he has heard you all.
Wishing Mikhail all the best for the Olympics and I hope to see him land a beauty of a 4Lz in each of his programs.

:sad4:

Misha looked off today - but then, it's not like everything leading up to the Olympics was auspicious for any russian athlete. Hopefully he can bounce back for the Men's competition.

I really hope this doesn’t affect his confidence for individuals. He’s so talented and capable of being one of the top men, it’s just so frustrating to see him underperform to that extent.

I don't know what to say I just wish I could send him a hug and to say that I still believe in him!
Before the individual event there is still the team's LP - it seems probable that it still will be Mika skating not Dima - not 100% though but as Z/E to replace T/M and surely the ladies will be split, they have no other option.
How Mika is going to recover mentally from this I don't know, he proved many times that he could pick himself up after a bad skate but I am not sure this time.
I have been terribly worried about his confidence since Russian Nats. He made mistakes before but there I noticed something was different - the spark was gone, like he lost the will to fight...The Euros only confirmed my impression. So I was not overly optimistic about Oly but didn't anticipate it would be that bad.
I am not surprised though - the pressure from being No 1 of a big skating nation + upped (beyond any reason) tech content = a recipe for a disaster as we saw so many times before (Kovtun and others).
Hope against hope for the best. Go Mika! Just believe in yourself. Yours is a talent in a million!
