Mikhail Kolyada

:ghug: I hope Misha is able to just skate for himself, show some of his great qualities, and be happy w how he skated regardless of placement.

I was telling my son, who's close to Misha's age and has participated in competitive sports for many years (he was a high level college varsity distance runner and played ice hockey on select teams for years) that I couldn't understand why some people still expressed *outrage* about Misha's scores in the sp even knowing he was far down and no threat to their favorites. I mean, talk about kicking him when he's down, why don't they have a heart and give him a break? My son said, you know, those people have probably never done competive sports and don't have any real idea what it's like because if they had, they would be more kind and understanding. He said that especially in individual sports, athletes genuinely feel bad when someone seriously underperforms to his/her potential, because they can personally empathize that despite all the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment it may still not go your way. Just thought I'd share.

Misha landed 4T four times in practice today - two of them in a combo with 3T. He also landed a 4lz, 2 3A and his combo 3lz-1/2lo-3s. Some pops, but no falls. I think this was probably one of his best trainings so far. Hopefully he has all the strenght he needs to compete well today. We all know medals are almost out of reach, but the most important today would be skating a good program and finishing his first Olympics on a high note.

Ok, congratulations are due for landing both 4Ts, one in a combo. Misha obviously started running out of steam towards the end, four programs so close together are too much. But he still tried to jump that 3A. You can hardly say he didn't fight. I hope he can have a good rest.

Misha gave a couple of short interviews that sound like he is relieved it's over. He says he is leaving these Olympics with mixed feelings (catching a plane home tomorrow, on his birthday). Also he once again reiterated how important the team's support was in the team event. He obviously needs something different done about preparation for competitions so he feels supported in individual events as well.

I wonder what the chances are of Misha and Dima bringing back three spots from this Worlds (although TAT was itching to replace Misha with someone, and we can all guess who that someone is).

The most positive part for me is that he tried to do 3A in the end. I was a bit frustrated last year and this when he was poping an 3Axel in the Free and didn't try it later, and today even with the fall it was looked so cool! He had very hard 10 days, and I think, he became more matured as an athlete these days and we will see it soon. Now it's time to rest and recover for him. I wish him to stay healthy and hope that new experience will help him in the further!

According with Google translator Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu won the male Futbol tournament at Pyeongchang Olympic Games. Oh yeah!!!!:scratch2:

No I’m not going to talk about other skaters in this threat, it’s just to joke about how “hard” is to be a russian skater fan when you don’t speak that language (Or another), Google does so mad translations.

Anyway, Olympic Games finished for Misha. I think 8th place is not a bad result but of couse it could be better. In my opinion today he fighted and skated strong but unfortunatelly he fall twice and popped a 3A if I’m not wrong. It’s so sad to read that he was able to skate clean or almost clean during training and then at competition fails. In spite of all, I will always support him because I believe in this young man. I think he should take a good rest holyday period and isolate himself of everything and everybody and analyze what is the best for him. But Worlds are very close. I hope somebody can help him with jumps and selfconfidence. It’s me, google translataor or the first day he competed at Team event, Yagudin did a harsh critis against him also Trahnkov among others. Today they have moderated their opinions :roll9: even Yagudin offers his help to Misha and Dima. We’ll let’s seen what happens. I wish my best to him.

Well, after the SP everyone and their mother offered opinions about Misha - especially because most of them thought Dima was going to pick up the slack after his very good short program. It's not surprising to see them scaling back now after the results from the FS came up. Nothing new, after all.

Misha can take some days off, rest, and then go back training for Worlds. He knows he can land all the jumps - besides the 4lz, which is still up in the air for competition - so if the layout stays the same he can do a lot better at Worlds, and finish the season on a high note.

As I said in the men’s fs thread, I’m proud of how Misha fought in the fs after the difficulties he’s had this week and having to skate both programs in team. Of course it would have been better if he hadn’t popped, but great to see him going after the triple axel despite the fall, it showed perseverance and thinking on his feet and was worth the risk because he did get more points even w the fall than if he had just done a clean double axel. Like everyone else here, I hope he and his team learn what he must work on going forward. It also dawned on me (which it should have sooner) that part of the issue may be that he’s had to be conservative w his training due to his back issues, although he’s not one to make excuses. That could greatly affect his consistency and confidence in competition, having nothing to do w lack of *character* as some arm chair skating fans accuse him of. Those outside his team have no idea what goes on in his training, the situation, or stresses involved. Based on my personal experience, it’s always a difficult and delicate balancing act to push to improve without risking injury, especially if an athlete is prone to injury (as my son was) or has a chronic condition they have to manage. See poor Adian Pitkeev. An acute injury, while awful, may almost be easier to manage mentally and physically over the long term bc there’s a finite recovery period. Anyway, I hope his team figures it out bc it would be such a shame for someone of his talent not to reach his potential.

Also, if anyone can give me pointers, I’d love to know how a non-Russian speaker like myself can search for interviews, articles, etc in Russian media, if that’s possible. I don’t want to be pestering you all for links all the time! :)

I didn't realize he is 23! I shared the ride with him this morning, as we were sitting in the same carriage of the KTX train heading towards the airport. I should have said happy birthday to him to cheer him up, he was so serious. But how could he is 23, he looks like a teenage boy!

Hi :) all the news in Russian with links to to the sources are being posted there, in our official community in Russian social net VK:

Happy Birthday Mika! You are an amazing skater and human being you give so much to your fans. Just believe in yourself!
I'll write more tomorrow.
Safe trip home!

I wish Misha a happy 23rd birthday!🎂🎈🎊 I hope he continues believing in himself and moves forward from his Oly experience with a calm heart and mind.

Ok, I have an amusing confession. One reason Misha first caught my attention, in addition to his wonderful talent, is that he looks like my son’s best friend since kindergarten (who is very dear to me). I swear, if you saw their photos side by side you’d almost think they were the same person. When I showed my son Misha’s photo, he said, wait, that skater looks just like N (his friend)! Also, his friend’s birthday happens to be in four days! Full disclosure, though, my son’s friend is of Irish/Scottish, not Russian, descent, and the striking resemblance is only in their facial features and coloring, as his friend is 6 feet two inches tall w a much larger bone structure and would never pass for a figure skater. I hoped this might make you all, as Misha’s fans, smile a little. :)

Interesting, according to the VK group, Misha stayed in Korea instead of flying home today like he was planning to just yesterday. I wonder what's up.

It's so humbling to see a page about Misha being so kind to him and Dima - because in here it seems like you can't root for both of them.

Also, all the art is amazing!! :agree::love:

Well, I like Misha, I feel something very special for him, but I also like other skaters and one of them is Dima. An Yes, In Mikhail VK official page they have an awsome gallery of pictures. One of the folders is about fan art and some draws are really beautiful.

It seems they were mistaken, Misha arrived after all. He was met at the airport, there were interviews and photos and Figurist TV filmed it.
