Missing Michelle and Jenny/Jenny should come back

I have to admit that Sasha seems to be in top shape both physically and mentally. I don't think that Sasha has an eating problem. Sasha seems to have no body fat, all muscles-just go back to the photos that were take at Olympic summit-that's fit. When skaters body shape changes and they start to get top heavy and bottom heavy, thats when they start having problems with injuries and the jumps. I think that Sasha's body type is to be slim and with all the training that she has done this past summer, I think that she is in the best shape ever.

Dear Frau

I have to say that if you think Sasha Cohen, or any top skater was Pudgy, you have not seen them in person. Avg. 5'1" and 100 lbs. Kat Witt who is georgeously built looks heavy to some due to TV's ability to put on 10 lbs.

I truly cannot believe you said that.

Toni

I think Jenny quit due to her lack of respect, judges ignoring her 3/3's and the gradual erosion of her confidence. Plus the big push to get Kim Meissner in the third spot. She did not deserve such poor marks at world's. Of course she has other options. I just saw no one including the Sasha skate with the joy and style I have seen from Jenny on many occasions. I wish her much luck.

It's hard to say whether her extreme thinness is due to an eating disorder, or to the intense physical activity practicing for the Olympics.

Personally, I think it's the latter.

Bijoux - I take it back. 'Pudgy' is not the right word. Before, Sasha's torso had a certain largeness, especially the ribcage, in relation to the rest of her very elongated self, that was apparent. She now seems to have done something -- either the loss of a 4-5 pounds or spot-training on Pilates -- to make her torso sleeker than ever. At first I thuoght that it was the design or color of the dress but, no, it is a physical change. The one thing that used to irk me about Cohen has finally been fixed, in my eyes. That's all.

Frau- there is nothing, nothing large about Sasha

she had an adorable little figure, broad shoulders tiny waste. I was superthin and danced and knew people killing themselves. I 'm not being mean, but these comments on weight cause anorexia/bulimia and if you are around girls, I hope you don't use pudgy or large in front of them. Scrawny is not, NOT needed to look like a prima ballerina.

She was on diet a while ago, believe she had lost a few pounds. But she looks much better than the photos they show couple of monthes ago in her homerink exhibition...The dress is very pretty.

from what I understand about Jenny, she has a severe hip injury. While I'd love to see her skate competitively for one more year, I'd rather she retire now than end up like Tara L. She may know her body well enough to have made the decision to " skate as she likes" rather than injure herself further and have to "skate only as well as her body lets her"

I would personally like to see her in Ice Dance. She has beautiful lines and posture from her early ballet training and I think she would be a valuable asset to the American team given the right partner.

Sasha's weight: She is very thin, however keep in mind that her sport involves a lot of jumping and landing on a hard surface with hardly any shock absorption. I just read an article where it recommended that a person should lose 4 pounds to relieve 600 pounds of pressure on the knees (at least a few hundred if not specifically 600, but 600 stands out to me so I might remembered correctly). This was for the prevention of osteoarthritis from *walking*. If Sasha wants to relieve stress on her body and prevent injuries, she must maintain a low weight. Since this is the Olympic year, she might as well go all out and diet/train to get fit.
.

This is true. But you have to be very careful with it, there is a very thin line here. It was said that dramatically reduced the weight in Olympic season (some of top Rusian skaters had been mentioned as the example) it may help in the season, but it also could cause long term damage at skater's joints, since the water lose in joint cause the directly friction between bones.......Sasha's thin is not news around Cal rinks....from what shown in Campbell TV, she looks much better.

I personally don't feel she is scarely thin. She is fine, looks beautyful. I'm the one have more tolarance level on thin than on 'fat' (for the lack of better words), because I grown up in a environment where most ppl are 'too thin' for NA standard.

Jenny mentioned her hip injury in explaining her decision to retire. I agree, though, that she would be a good ice dancer.

ITA about dance...

didn't know her hip was so bad. That explains the falls, assuming it's her landing leg/hip. No I don't wish that she would end up as Tara did. I can imagine her dancing with the best of them, though the preference seems to be a style I think she would not personally like- i.e. overly busy, dramatic and Russian. With such great costume taste, I think she'd hate the status quo in Ice dance, however.

I totally agree with the title of the thread. Without Michelle Kwan, the Cambell looks so empty. Nobody has that christma Michelle Kwan has... Jenny announced retirement too early. She can quit a day before Olympic starts... If she is the replacement of Michelle, the show of Cambell would be a lot better... Emily only did one triple salcow... Alissa C. hasn't really mastered triple flip and lutz yet... I don't know why Bebe wasn't invited....Sasha did a clean program. But the choreograpgy is empty. Jumps, spins, foot work, there isn't much in-betweens.

that's what I felt about Sasha as well. She just didn't "sing" as Button says. I could see her concentration, but didn't enjoy this performance as much as many others with falls even. Joannie had the charisma that day, IMHO.

Yeah. I would like to see her trying out the dance. But heard that it is very difficult in NA finding male partner in dance and pair.

I miss Jenny a lot, but she has been dealing with chronic injuries for a few years, so I totally understand it is time for her to retire. She is an amazing young lady, I speculate great things (non skating) things for her in the future.

(This thread seems to be turning into one about Cohen's level of fitness...GS, I swear  )

And who post a link to a Cohen picture?

I don’t think Sasha is anorexic. She has extremely low body fat due to intense training similar to Lance Armstrong. She said in the fluff that she has added muscle that has helped her hang on to jumps that she would have fallen on in the past. I think her appearance is far from emaciated like Qing Pang. Sasha’s legs are more muscular, and that made her spirals steadier than ever has before. However, her continual talk about working with chefs, preparing food at home, hopes to open a restaurant someday, all while training at a level that does not permit an unhealthy morsel to pass her lips, could indicate an unhealthy relationship with food.

Weight

Yes, Sasha is thin but she is also more muscular. Her legs look stronger to me. She is also a very small person, so between that and her weight, she looks even tinier/thinner. I have seen anorexic skaters and performers (think Lara Flynn Boyle) and Sasha isn't even close. I think eating and cooking are actually something Sasha enjoys so I don't see it being a problem. She has NEVER been pudgy. I agree that there is a body disorder issue with the general female population today thanks to Hollywood and Madison Avenue. I think skaters come in all body shapes and weights, which is fine (anyone remember Beatrix Schuba).

There is body dysmorphic disorder, there is delusional disorder somatic type but what is a body disorder???

You mean some women have body image issue? I am not sure what percentage of the general female population have this issue though. My speculation is the percentage of general female population with this problem is <<<<< than female athletes though

I have seen anorexic skaters

BTW, who are the anorexic skaters you have seen??

You asked for a link to a Cohen photo that highlights the concerns people are voicing about her weight. Scroll down to the third picture:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/even...?ri=content/events/200506/Campbells/pics4.htm

Tanith looks considerably scarier than Cohen. Her face is all hard and dried out and her clavicle is sticking out (and her arms are like toothpicks). At least Sasha's face is still soft looking and she is a short girl so her body can better tolerate a lower weight than a taller girl like Tanith.
