Missing Michelle and Jenny/Jenny should come back

I really don't get all the worry over Sasha's weight, she has a small frame and is very short, and she trains for several hours a day, would you expect her to be fat? She is petite but far from looking emaciated, she still has those round, chubby cheeks and looks healthy to me. I'm more concerned about a number of ice dancers thanI am about Sasha.

Same here. It's always a possibility, I mean, but I've seen people in much worse shape than she is, frankly.

I don't think that you guys should be making assumptions whether Sasha is anorexic or not! Anorexica is a very serious disease and it is not our right to and diagnose Sasha-even talk about it. Thousands of young girls and sometimes boys die from this disease every year. I think that Sasha has enough smart people in her life to know and supervise what she is doing. Let's get back to talking about figure skating not that dreary disease. I rather for people to be talking about her not falling on her backside than this. Anorexia is a scarey subject.:) :) :) :) Let's not surmise about this.

I thought that this topic was about missing Michelle and Jenny. I remember way back when the subject that Michelle had filled out to much-it to was a sore topic.

Well, I don't think Sasha is Anorexica (is this the sympton that the one has it don't want eat ?), if she is then she would not need going on a perticula diet method. She looks fine for a skater. And at times I did feel MK had filled out too much (yes, this is from a Kwan fan) .....as I said I have more tolorance on thin than fat/full/chuby (whatever).

I miss Michellle, get well soon!

I miss Jenny and hope she is preparing for that run for president or whatever makes her happy.

Tanith looks great,

Sasha looked great on TV at Campbell's, but that picture referenced above is somewhat alarming. OTOH I have a friend from college with the same body type and a niece who is 5'8" and weighs 105#, both are healthy and fit.

Personally I agree that Tanith and most ice dancers strive to look as scrawny as ballerinas. She too is too thin, but at least her joints don't take the pounding.

I am horrified at the picture. By best friend in college, a dancer was surviving on apples and peanut butter to drop a few lbs off her very curvy frame. She quickly ended up in the hospital with a blood disorder and gum disease.

Millie, look at that picture Kathy posted. We discuss athletes health all the time, touchy or not. I like her and hope she isn't getting too sickly. Body fat and muscle are needed to protect bones. I hope she is healthier than she looks. Her face is shaped so that it doesn't show how thin she is, similar to Jackie O's type face.

Michelle is tiny, thin and has a bit of a bust. Another strange comment on her body being too filled out. Wow. I think some here are getting very distorted pictures of what looks right. You are forgetting how distorting TV is.

Imagine in person how these ladies look when TV puts on 10 lbs.

Sasha Cohen has never looked so beautiful. She finally looks like a real ballerina, rather than a slightly pudgy version of a ballerina.

Sasha looks anorexic. There is no way she got that thin without either starving or throwing up. And even compared to your average skinny ballerina, Sasha never looked "pudgy." No wonder so many women have body image problems!

whether or not she might look it to some I don't agree... she's thinner and yet not so much as some of the others in figure skating....

yes we all believe that cameras make you gain ten pounds, but depending on the angle you can cut off pounds too

she didn't look sickly thin to me on ABC...

and I'm a big butted girl who thinks EVERYONE looks smaller than me lol so I'm not one of the young girls that think thinner is better (it'd be nice, but it ain't happening!)

unless you've treated Sasha I don't think you can say the only way she got the way she is is by throwing up or starving herself....

Sasha

looked the same since she appeared on board. Even if she's overworking to the point now of injury she needs those calories to have energy. I hope she isn't harming herself because she wants an oly medal so bad.

Jenny Kirk

I saw Jenny 2 times this summer, I went by 2 other times and she wasn't there. The 2 times I saw her, she was just having problems with her jumps. She just couldn't get the height it needed to make enough rotation, and she landed on the ice a lot. She seemed really frustrated, and upset the few times. I don't know whether her injuries played into her jumping problems or not. But you can tell she was just really mad that she can't do what she wanted. I do miss her as well, she has the elegance a lot of skaters doesn't have. And I was hoping to see her new programs that she was working on as well.

ITA Toni and RD. This is such a scary disease that I think it is equal to bashing to accuse someone of it. You wouldn't accuse someone of having cancer without proof. It should be the same with eating disorders, and psychological problems too, IMO.

I assume you live near LAX like me.

Most diseases are scary to the people who have them. How many times have you heard someone point out an overweight person and say, He's going to have a heart attack, maybe diabetic. I think there is a huge difference between observation, educated guessing (looking at the pic posted) and bashing. We make observations on 'fanatics' all the time, eg. "Kwaniacs" attacking, etc.

I do think the poster said, "or staving herself." We've watched her since 2000 and while tiny, she looked in great shape. Her little legs were shapely, now looked sticklike. These people are role models for millions of little girls. Shoving the obvious under the rug helps no one. I remember you saying you didn't like the "baby ballerina" thing and wanted to see real adult women in skating with real bodies.

They put themselves in the limelight. It's not like the poster called someone stupid, or we are outing gay skaters. I think it's a concern for those of us who want to see her skate a long time.

I know we should get off this anorexia theme, but I couldn't resist repeating the stories Scott Hamilton and others have told about Kristi Yamaguchi. With her small frame and fast metabolism, Kristi loves to chow down and apparently gets ribbed about it. Scott once said that noone should get between Kristi and the table. So we can't really tell about these very slim, athletic young ladies. Maybe Sasha talks about food all the time because she can eat anything and never gain an ounce.

There is a difference between making an observation about how someone appears to you and labeling them with a diagnosis that they may or may not have. Like I said you wouldn't acuse someone of having any other disease why do it with anorexia?

There is a huge difference between Kristi and Sasha. Kristi has remained the same weight throughout her entire career. She is naturally small boned and isn't very muscular. My Korean friend has a similar build to Kristi and eats everything. Sasha on the other hand has had weight fluctuations throughout her career. Her body naturally wants to be fuller and more rounded. Sasha's body isn't the result of just being naturally thin :she works very hard in the gym and diets to be cut like that. Also Sasha has spoken openly about watching her weight and working out.

As for Sasha's love of cooking and baking: you can watch your weight and enjoy the sweets in moderation. She has said that she just eats a small bit of everything. Allowing small indulgences makes it much easier to remain on a diet.

OK, soogar, I'll give you this one. But would like to point out that cooking and baking your own treats means you control what is in them. I do it all the time for just that reason. And because I actually like to cook.

But personally, I don't think that a weight fluctuation in one so small framed is by itself a reason to worry about the young lady. Anyway, once you see just how small these youngsters actually are, the issue becomes more muddy. These ladies are not the only ones who are short and small framed. Even the guys have a similar body form. Seems the form has its advantages for spinning and jumping. Which is why we all see these "jumping beans" of both sexes.

I'm short but seeing the skaters at competitions (and outside where you are closer and get a better idea of height and frame size), some of them seem like an elementary school student. They are small.

I think Sasha's body is natural thin with small frame (I know a lot Jewish women are natural thin and small framed.). Before this season I never heard anywhere mentioned she was on this type diet that she was said to go through early on in the season. And I thought it would be OK, when she was slowly pacing herself up, early on season she was not seen doing a lot triples or any triples(actually at the time the rumore around the Cal rink side had it Michelle was the only elite skaters male and/or femal who trained at South Cal rinks practiced seriously). But when competetions come around the corner she must have to come up full force to train, IMO, that's when her body can't take too much of it....really this is a very thin line she has walked on....Compare her apperance in Campbell with her apperance two monthes ago, she looks a lot better than before. Anyway not as thin as I would've thought based on what I've heard. But different ppl may have different perspective as what is slim and what is too thin....to me I felt Sasha looks fine/ordernally as a skater.
