Just saying ... Abuse is a serious criminal and moral charge. I'm not willing to go there just because someone with her own soapoperatic history says so. I wasn't at the rink. Who am I to say there's no way Oksana could be exaggerating?

The whole thing sounds like old fashioned business gone bad ... happens all the time ... but in ice dance, as you said, there's gotta be a melodrama. Too bad we can't bring beer and popcorn to the courthouse to watch.

Galit Chait's father, Boris Chait, is the President of the Israeli Skating federation. During Galit's career he had a reputation for being quite a "stage father" who tried to use his influence to further his daughter's fortunes.

I vaguely recall a mini scandal about Chait's 2002 World's Bronze placement. Rumor was that her father bought the medal for her. Didn't the ice dancers file a protest petition? Anyone remember the details?

Yup. Chait & Sakhnovksy got the bronze over Drobiazko & Vanagas. It was indeed a very strange decision as the Lithuanians were really "on"; though I personally couldn't help having a weak spot for C&S's Jewish medley music, I couldn't pretend like it was a fair decision after seeing the performances.

All skaters then signed petition; the only ones who did not were C&S (obviously), Grushina & Goncharov, and maybe Lobacheva & Averbukh (I don't quit recall). The two "leaders" in the effort were Navka and Denkova. Reportedly, Navka was the one who got everyone to sign, but still had Denkova hand the petition in. Reportedly, after the petition was signed, sealed, and delivered, papa Chait screamed furiously at Zhulin, "Rein in you w****, or she may never get home in one piece!"

At the time, there was much made of a conversation supposedly between Sakhnosky and Kotomarov. Roman asked Sergei how much it cost nowadays to buy a medal. Sergei replied, "How much do you think?" Many took this for an admission, which I do not believe it was.

In a way, I feel that the biggest victims of the scandal were C&S; the judges were henceforth so afraid to mark them too high, they IMO often marked them too low.

Morozov is a busy man. He has had lots of conflicts. Fire, passion, strong ego, and agressiveness. Somehow these attract me very much.

It is spelled Morozov on the list of coaches on the Ice House web site, and also in his Wikipedia entry.

Um, Ptichka, Judaism is both a religion and an ethnicity. By Jewish law, anyone is considered a Jew who has a Jewish mother - ethnicity is passed down through the maternal line. Oksana's maternal grandmother was a Jewish woman, and therefore under Jewish law, Oksana is indeed Jewish. Moreover, she has embraced her Jewish heritage and done a great deal of work to benefit the Jews of the city she grew up in, Odessa - for one thing, she financially supports an orphanage for Jewish children there.

2002 was when everyone was filing protests right and left, wasn't it? I can't decide if having everyone sign it shows how bad the decision was or how mean people can be. Perhaps both. Personally, I have little recollection of the ice dance event at 2002 Worlds, but I do remember that C/S never saw the podium again, while N/K went on to win Olympic gold (I was never that keen on them myself). BTW, didn't Tatiana Navka once skate with Morozov? Was there anything going on between them? Skating is such a soap opera at times...

That having been said, if the reports of what Boris Chait said and did are true, there's certainly no way to justify that; it's thuggish behavior. But C/S should not have been held accountable for it.
