Most unfortunate costumes in history

Was I the only one that hated Michkoutienok and Dmitriev's outfit in 1994? They looked like speed skaters for team Russia, and it looked like Artur had skated over Natalia and cut holes on the arms.

I also thought Valova and Vasiliev's 1988 Oly outfit was scary. The yellow made me go blind.

YES, YOU WERE, thisthing...I adored M&D's costumes, they were PERFECT...oh, wait, people are allowed to have opinions different from mine..oopsie:laugh:

The ones I hated: the sun and moon that gave me nightmares (Winkler & Lohse, I believe) from this past worlds

and Kristi's Olympic LP...sorry guys. I just can't stand it, poofy shoulders should not be allowed in figure skating. .5 deduction per sleeve, IMO. Someone pointed out to me that they were an '80s trend, but being a true child of the 90s (I was a child during the '80s, but I will never own up to that...sorry:p), I cannot stand them.

Enough for now:)

Irina Slutskaya - I think I am the only one that didn't like her
SP dress from 2004 Worlds. It was far too long and looked too
big on her!
I didn't like the LP dress. In the quali round, she wore a very nice dress with a red heart on the front and a red diamond on the back. I was disappointed when she changed dresses for the LP.

94 Us olympic team

Every costume in this picture is ghastly, with the exception of Nancy's which is perfection... I think that costume maybe one of my favorites of all time. I cant remember if the designer is Vera Wang or Donna Karen... anyone know for sure?

I think this image pretty much sums up the tragedy that was pairs/dance costumes of the early 90's

omg what were they all thinking back then?

the men were equally as scary as the women! jerod swallow and paul reynolds should've been taken to the fab five!

this reminds me of the scene in the cutting edge where db sweeney rips everything that the designer is putting on their costume LOL

tonya looks like she has male pecs instead of breasts; jenni, karen, liz, and kyoko shouldn't have worn something that highlights their chest area...as their chests are...well, not there...

I think I'm the only person on the planet that *liked* Baiul's Olympic LP dress! :D

I didn't really like that one either, especially the shoulders! I also didn't like Slutskaya's SP dress from this year.

Takeshi's Mummy I with the toilet paper and also Mummy II with the duct tape.

Gwendal Peizerat's Rope costume for Liberta Olympic progam

Gwendal All Tied Up

Pla and Bonheur for random pieces of pile bathroom rug or other fake fur stuck to their costume

At the following address, go to Pairs Page 2, using the box at the right hand side of the page and go to the last picture in the row.

Pla and Bonheur Skate America 2003

C&S's shedding little balls of fluff clown suits for this year-unfortunate in the true sense, because they got costume deductions for them.

Melissa Gregory's 2002 dress that she kept popping out of
at Nationals

I may be the only one, but I could never stand how Ryan Jahnke's costume this season clashed with itself.

Rudi Galindo and the Brady Bunch costume with the picture board he stuck his head through.

hehe there are so many tragedies in the skating world with regards to costumes that it is hard to know where to begin!!!

Mostly I have never been a fan of Irina's costumes but credit where credit was due, her costumes have grown with her skating. For example as much as I hated the Mozart costume (white frills & pink rosebuds) but it was cute and she was cute at the time.

Alexei Urmanov - somebody get that man a stylist!!!

Michael Weiss - I get the picture, you have a great body now can you please wear something that doesn't look like you might be in danger of losing your manhood on a sit spin, please!! Actual design of his costumes are okay, they just need a few more inches all round.

Ice-dancers in general, less is DEFINITELY more and that goes for sequins, flesh fabric, bright colour combinations, skirt length, chiffon, attacking with scissors and various other things that escape me right now.

Plushenko. I loved his adagio costume lets have some more like that please and less of the lame of *any* colour. He got away with it (just about) when he was 15 and tall and skinny now that he has filled out it just makes him look huge!

Sasha's yellow Sp dress from this season. A friend of mine once said that yellow is not a colour, it's a disease and never have I felt that statement to be more true than with this dress. It does nothing for her IMO and the halter design is not the most flattering thing that she can wear. Yellow is a great colour, however to get away with that acid yellow shade you need to have a darker complexion that Sasha. A slightly more lemony shade or perhaps more orangey would have suited her better I think.

There are loads more but I can't think of them now.

Alexei Urmanov's 30-ft cape costume, whatever that was from! (Actually, MOST of his costumes....too frou frou for my liking).

I agree with whoever said most of Plushenko's costumes....although this year seemed a little more toned down, which is better.

Katerina's 'boob shot' costume...wasn't it 'Carmen'? That they had to add more feathers or something to, because it was too porn otherwise??

Tonya Harding's hideous blue LP costume at nationals, the year of the whack. Good god.....

Yeah, Kulik's 'Rhapsody in Moo' is kind of up there too....I think he carried it off better than anyone else would have

Yagudin's 'Broken Arrow'....Yikes....just not my idea of a good time

Jordan Brauninger, this year's LP....Just kind of clashy, purple with green....sigh

Takeshi's toilet paper masterpiece

Michelle's blue and gold from last year? I think....the big gold buttons and military look...it's bad enough for men, atrocious on women

Another junior skater I enjoy, Andrei Griazev's SP costume this year....one tie, would have been cute. Five of them?? What's the point?

And finally, dang near every ice dance costume ever made!!! (NOT an ice dance fan though....)

Doris, I'm glad that we both have such good taste.

Least favorites (no particular order), I'm sticking to Ladies:

1. Michelle's "creamsicle" dress for EOE, Worlds 2001. This was an old dress of Linda Fratianne's, and it showed. Out of style, horrendous glitz, and it didn't fit Michelle very well as she's rather a bit smaller than Linda was.

2. Tonya Harding: Name the costume. Someone described her taste as "looking like the elephant trainer in the circus." That sums it up pretty well.

3. Surya Bonaly: Most costumes--I swear, what does she have against skirts? She has these big muscular thighs and barely wears anything to cover them at all aside from scraps, beads or feathers.

4. Oksana Baiul: The "pink fuzzy slipper" dress to quote a friend of mine. Ick.

5. Arakawa's Elvis Jumpsuit

6. Sasha Cohen's "Carmen" dress, the one with the red corset top that just served to show off what Sasha didn't have.

But the WORST of all, more heinous than the others, IMO:

Tara Lipinski's "Swiss Miss" dress for "Anastasia" SP in 1998. Jeff Billings designed a perfectly lovely pale pink dress for this program with soft sparkles, but Tara and Momma Lipinski decided it was too "childish" looking. So what did they replace it with? A Von Trapp Family yodeling dress with a stomacher that proceeded to make a 15 year old skater who looked 12 to begin with appear to be only 10 years old. She looked like she was starring in a bad production of Heidi. Horrid, horrid, dress.

ITA with Tara and the Swiss yodel outfit.

Also have to add B&E's 1992 LP outfit-SHINY all white outfits:eek:

I actually loved M&D's costumes in 1994, it was very pleasing on the eye, especially D's costume. :D
But then again, I actually like most of the ice dance costumes-so I guess I have something for all of the shredded costumes.

Yazmeen, Is this the one you're talking about? If so, I always thought it reminded me of the car wash where the things whip around to clean (?) your car. Also, this is from her Hernando's Hideaway program.

I like to read these costume posts but I usually don't have anything to add because the costumes don't usually bother me. I had to add today though because I was just commenting to my husband ( who, by the way, couldn't care less) that Michael Weiss' free skate costume - the blue drum major thing - was just on my last nerve.

Michael Weiss' military costume

This costume seems to have taken a few slams today! I think I've figured out why - that tight blue costume makes his head look way too big for his body.
Is it just me, folks? Or does Michael Weiss have an oversized head?
