Mr. Personality

Okay, I watched the first two shows and I've got to admit it's a guilty pleasure, especially when the guys are caught on tape doing nasty stuff and then lie through their teeth when asked about it. Or on the first episde where a guy threw a complete tantrum when he wasn't chosen for the finals. Also, it kind of reminds me of forum life. We don't know what anybody looks like (okay, a few people have photos) so who knows how we would judge each other if we knew what we looked like?

So if Survivor or AI is getting a little old for you, here's another way to indulge an hour in TV anthropology and mating rituals:lol:

Re: Mr. Personality

rgirl I haven't watched this show, but it sounds like it might be worth my time. When is it on?

We should have a topic on how we think each of us looks based on our GS personality.

Re: Mr. Personality

This show just creeps me out!! The guys look so reptilian 0] in those masks (and a few do without them).

I'm rapidly approaching junk TV flame-out. I need my "Amazing Race" !!!

Re: Mr. Personality

I watched this show the other night and I thought it was completely disturbing. Those masks are just plain strange looking! I think that Monica makes a good host.

Re: Mr. Personality

Donna,
Mr. Personality is on Monday nights. EST it's on at 9pm on Fox.

Hmm, that might be a fun off-season thread: What do you think other GSers look like? Although I'm sure I would get plenty of 0] for me, lol.

Aloft and Mike,
I almost didn't finish watching the first episode because of the masks--they are creepy--but I wanted to see what the guys looked like. I thought the motivational speaker--the one the other guys think is using hypnosis on the girl (I forget her name)--would be kind of a Dr. Phil type, but I was wrong. Anyway, it's not like I'm recommending the show:lol: --all these reality deals are SO strange--I'm just saying if you want another weird portrayal of American male-female relationships via TV, here's another one. And I did like seeing the guys who lied and had tantrums.

Re: Mr. Personality

The show is CREEPY but I like it. The Green mask guy is a psycho. When he was leering at Hayley and Will from the top of the stairs it was very disturbing. I think its good for women to watch shows like this, The Bachelor etc. to see how men can be one personality when with a woman, and then be a totally different person when he thinks the woman isn't watching. I haven't been watching the latest Bachelor (had enough of that) so this is something different at least. Still anxiously waiting for The Amazing Race.

Speaking of which, Blake and Brennan from AmazingRace2 are starting an All Realty TV Channel which should be on cable/satellite sometime in 2004 - it will show Reality shows that have aired in other countries like British Big Brother, as well as repeats of old US reality series. So if you missed the original Survivor and the evil genius that is Richard Hatch, stay tuned!

Re: Mr. Personality

LOL, re "the evil genius that is Richard Hatch..." That guy set the standard as to how to play Survivor. IMO, it wasn't until this season--though I've been following erratically--that anyone else has managed to match RH's skills. I'd usually watch the first show of the season and then one or two others, hearing just about everyone say, "I'm here to win!" But only Hatch and Rob really KNEW how to play to win--which meant talk out of both sides of your mouth, lie, CYA, change alliances on a dime if need be, be out for #1 when that helped you and be out for the group when that helped you. And, be completely comfortable with your contradictions.

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, just agree with your assessment there. As for "Mr. Personality," I also agree that this should be required viewing for all girls starting at age 10. They should know what relationships really are about. And just to be fair, they should have a "Ms. Personality" to turn the tables and show guys what women really do when they think they aren't being watched. I have no doubt that the a**hole percentage would be the same:lol:

Re: Mr. Personality

If anybody else is watching this--I had to channel flip between "Mr. P" and something else--what did you think of Yellow Mask aka Big Bird taking the Xanax so he wouldn't have a panic attack at the meeting, then drinking and passing out, and then STILL thinking he was in the running? And what do people think of Green Mask and his behavioral control methods? The millionaire guy thinks this is "crossing a line." One thing for sure, the testosterone in that house is getting thick. The weird thing I find about this show is that every week, after Hayley kicks off another couple of guys, she has this big group hug with all the remaining guys. Yeah, we all want to do the same girl and beat out you other pudknockers to do it, so let's all cuddle:x  :x

Re: Mr. Personality

The guy in the Yellow Mask "Big Bird" really showed his cards last night. If he can't handle the stresses of being on a stupid show like this without the help of drugs what will he turn to when he has a real life crisis? Then to start drinking on top of it... then he thinks he's going to make it all better by giving Haley a ring? What a dope.

If Haley chose the green mask guy at the end, I'd say she's regretting it right now. He seems to have no real interest in Haley but rather in his little experiment with mind control. I like the guy she went on the wine tasting the best. Will seems a bit immature and Peyton seems pretty nice. Hopefully she'll dump Green Mask next week.

Re: Mr. Personality

I watched this last week and I thought all the guys seemed very immature. Then, I felt immature for watching it.

Re: Mr. Personality

The green mask guy freaks me out. Hes like Russ from the bachelorette....he just makes me mad because hes there.

Re: Mr. Personality

The guy in the green Mask freeks me out too. Monia does make a good host.

Re: Mr. Personality

What I find fascinating is that the two alpha males, Silver Mask (the millionaire) and Green Mask (the motivational speaker) are using such opposite approaches and hate each other the most, at least as far as I can tell. Silver Mask (SM) has made his millions so is comfortable with being able to "offer Hayley the world." Money is his world and his comfort zone, so he's focusing on being confident. GM is a motivational speaker. His place in the world is all about using analysis and techniques to get himself to a higher level--financially, socially, and here, romantically. I think the other guys are putting too much stock in GM's techniques. You can't "hypnotize" somebody into wanting you sexually and besides, GM isn't using hypnosis. He's using positive visualization (visualizing himself and Hayley having great times together, great sex, great whatever) and techniques like that. Basically, they're sales tools. But about all he can do is improve his chances of making a better impression if there is already something about him she likes. But even if GM "wins," she'll drop him ASAP if there is nothing else there. Plus, the producers have the option of showing her video of what any of the guys are doing behind her back. So they could reveal GM's methods to her, which could cause her to have one of her little confrontations with him and ask him about it. So it cuts both ways. I just find this stuff psychologically fascinating because males tend to be the pursuers just in a biological sense, so here you have all these guys going after a very attractive woman. Although I could never see myself having THAT much fun with guys who are SO different. I mean, one whiff of Big Bird and I would have been, "Just go home." There's something about this show I find very primal under the surface, which intrigues me. Plus it always blows me away when guys who have totally blown it are still convinced that not only is he going to stay on for the next show, but that he's going to win:lol:

I want to see one of these shows where they lose the mansion and the grand dates and put them into a real reality situation, having to deal with jobs, family, ex's, finances, regular dates and date decisions (like what movie do you want to see), stuff like that. I think all this fairytale stuff is completely for the audience (obviously they want ratings), but I'd much rather see this kind of situation with real life variables thrown in.
