Nathan Chen

Any guesses as to whether Nathan will participate in any events before Grand Prix season? Or Japan Open? Is Japan Open the earliest we will see this season's programs?
I could see him going to the Asian Open depending on which GP assignments he gets. It's the Olympic test event, so it'll be held in the actual Olympic venue, but it's only a week before Skate America. If Nathan does get assigned to Skate America (which is almost certain), he'll potentially go to another Challenger Series, likely the Autumn Classic event before the GP season starts. As for the earliest to see his programs, he could potentially send in a virtual preview of his programs for Dreams on Ice in July, as he did last year, but I think that's a long shot. He'll probably debut them at a CS event if he decides to go or the Japan Open.

That's an interesting idea, Nathan sending in a virtual preview of his programs for one of the Japanese ice shows. He could send in the SP for Dreams on Ice and the FS for The Ice. :) But as you said, probably a long shot.

Is anyone rewatching old programs while waiting for Nathan news? If so, which programs have you been watching?

He's more or less obligated to attend JO, an IMG show, either in person or virtually. And he'll almost certainly going to do Sun Valley. Probably will also do US Classic if it's close by.

from here

Was this the day before the FS? or before the SP? Didn't Romain say the only jump Nathan fell on at morning practice (same day as FS) was the last 3a?

re: skating-to-music.blog
Thank you, lakeforest. The author himself posted in this thread some pages earlier.

sheetz, it's not yet clear whether Nathan would be obligated to participate in JO, either in person or virtually. If the world health situation does not improve, it's possible that Japan Open 2021 will be like in October 2020, two different teams each made up of Japanese skaters (esp. IMG skaters).

He was a virtual guest last year.

Thanks, I didn't know it has been posted before. Bow to the author!

Nahtan himself seemed to say 3A was the only jump he didn't hit on the match day practice when he took Meryl Davis' interview.

FS music suggestions?

I assume this means the SP is already taken care of.

Nathan was named to the Strategic Board of the committee to bring the Olympics back to SLC.

Seven additional athletes were named to the broader Strategic Board: Olympic figure skating medalist and Salt Lake City native Nathan Chen; Olympic nordic combined champion and Park City resident Billy Demong; three-time Olympic ice hockey medalist Meghan Duggan; Paralympic snowboard champion Noah Elliott; Olympic champion and Park City native Ted Ligety: Paralympic champion cross country skier and biathlete Oksana Masters; and Olympic luge silver medalist and Murray resident Chris Mazdzer.

saw this in FSU, thought people here would like it as well.

Fantastic article. Thanks for posting it!

lol isn't this LutzDance's dream come true? Nathan asking for suggestions? ;p

also, wouldn't Shae, being ultra-organized, have picked the music for him already? Why do I think asking for suggestions means it won't be Shae choreographing his FS?

Or is he just inviting the Hozier fans to reply en masse? ;)

I would be surprised if he has not already had some ideas about the free skate music. Now his post got me wonder if it is going to be similar to Rocket Man. Or maybe I just overread it.

He invited Chelsea Mischuk to be his choreographer? LOL. Uh... we are in for some ride, I'm afraid if none of the ideas inspire him we are in for Rocketman redux. :eek2:

 Please Nathan, please give us something new, to compensate for the trauma you will cause next season every time we see your planned program content with all those back loaded quad combos.:dbana::drama:

Nathan interviewed on WTT program for Japanese TV.

"I'm happy with the winning streak, but at some point it'll end...I don't think I'll be able to continue it because other skaters are so great and continuing to improve."

"Because of Covid we were training at the same rink (between Worlds and WTT) and I jokingly asked JLB if he wanted to take Raf's place at WTT since he couldn't come and JLB responded, "I absolutely want to!"

Nathan's 2021 Worlds FS: NBC broadcast, but cleverly edited to remove the commentary during the actual performance:

So impressed with the precision and dedication of the videomaker! Wish all commentators would do like Ted Barton and remain silent from the start of the skaters' music until they take their bows. Commentators have plenty of time to talk while the athletes are putting on their skateguards and waiting for scores. *grumble*

Sounds like no The Ice for Nathan this year. Official website says it will consist only of domestic skaters.
