Nathan Chen

But I would expect the solo programs for SOI to have been mostly choreographed long ago. At least I would hope that skaters have more than 1 week to learn a new program.

I wonder if he uses a program that's already in his repertoire and not necessarily something new. Maybe Jeffrey is only choreographing the group numbers? Not quite sure how that works.

ETA -- Enjoyed the Nathan interview. Glad he has college plans, and I think I've read he has med-school plans. Imagine having Doctor Chen as your doctor. That has a nice ring to it. Wait a minute, I'm getting a little too far ahead on this!

I suppose the solo performances could be the skaters' own EX programs. For instance, Ashley also performs her EX from the WTT Gala in SOI but I'm not sure who choreographed that program for her. But I think it's best if Nathan could have a brand new program that he can get ready for his Japan shows this summer. I think one of the Japan shows is supposed to be televised so he'll want it to be really polished up by then.

Thanks for posting this! It makes me sad though to know that he will probably retire if he wins the Olympics. I don't honestly think it's very likely but the possibility of that is still kind of depressing. Surely with all his talent he didn't invest all this time and hard work just to retire at 18? :( I know winning competitions is important and the Olympics is understandably most athletes ultimate goal, and he has other goals in life he wants to pursue. But there's also something to be said about growing as a skater, in addition to winning, and the joy that comes with it. And from a selfish point of view, how sad it would be for us fans too if he retired next year. That's 2 whole seasons on the Senior Circuit - even Tara Lipinski had 3...

@shine, I feel the same here. I want Nathan win the Olympic gold, I also want him to skate a few more years, maybe to next Olympic? Nathan must realize he is bigger than himself now, he is national treasure, lol:love: We need him to win more models in international competition, also slaythan hype to help promoting public interests in figure skating domestically as it has been declining in recent years.. No pressure.

And honestly, by delay couple of years graduating from college, the tremendous rewards from that, both personal pride of life time achievement and financially I bet, is not something ordinary college graduate can even think of, plus this is the sports Nathan loves..

That being said, I can see Nathan going into academic after retiring, with that glasses on :):laugh:

I don't think too much should be read into that interview. Based on his responses it seems Nathan has a tough time giving a definitive answer for most things. Even choosing a choreographer for next season's programs appears to be a long, thought out process for him.

Speaking of choreographers, he was recently seen with choreographer Benoit Richaud. Don't know what that means.

^^^Is there anything this guy can't do?! Piano, guitar, skating, gymnastics, ballet, good student. Sheesh! I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

^^^Ok, true confessions -- I was waiting for him to burst into song now too! He can do everything else.
