Nathan Chen

Sun Valley tickets go on sale tomorrow morning but the prices have already been set. This year Nathan's tickets get bumped up to the "special" pricing level normally reserved for holidays and Olympic/World champions. That means $49 for bleacher seats and $175 for the dinner/show.

Thanks sheetz! Wondering if anyone knows if you get a better view of the show if you purchase the dinner/show tickets?

And also wondering about meet and greet - sounds like that would be separate?

Dinner guests have table seating along the length of the rink. The bleachers are on the short sides. There's a venue map on the ticketing page.

Last year there was a special VIP meet and greet 2 hours before the show. I remember someone from Nathan's JP fanclub presented him with a message board from the fans at this time. But I also remember seeing pics of him with Angela Wang afterwards doing a separate meet and greet.

The VIP M&G is described on this page

- Bonus for skaters attempting all 6 types of triple/quad jump (Japan)

- No repetition of any type of quad jump (tech comm) - reason given: "variety" & "giving credit to skaters that can perform all types of quad jumps"

These would definitely benefit Nathan, although the second one means he won't be able to do 6 quads anymore - not the worst thing, tbh? Also, ISU is making some rules that are only applicable in certain countries?

- No compulsory deduction for falls, falls are interruption and should be reflected in PCS

Um, this is just weird...

Thanks sheetz :)

I think those are just proposals ... but I think the changes of reducing the free skate time to four minutes and eliminating one jumping pass have already been approved. I really have no clue about the tights situation lol

Raf from today's Philip Hersh icenetwork article: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2018/04/30/274122364

"In young bodies, bones are not formed. If you do so many quads, they get damaged, and they will wind up in a wheelchair. If we don't have evidence of that yet today, we will have it tomorrow."

It may seem odd to hear Arutunian speak of higher age minimums, given that he has coached a virtual child prodigy, 2018 world champion Nathan Chen, to one landmark quadruple jump achievement after another.

Chen was just 15 when he got full base value on two quads in the free skate at the world junior championships; 16 when he became the first U.S. man to land four clean quads; 17 when he became the first in the world to land five quads cleanly; and 18 when he became, this season, the first in the world to land five clean quads (and get full credit for a sixth) at both the Olympics and world championships.

"I was trying to stop him," Arutunian said. "Because of his cultural approach, I couldn't. When he was younger, he always wanted to do more."

Arutunian said training Chen to do quads was not based on repeating quads over and over in practice but in doing triples with a technique that would easily allow him to later make them quads.

"When I set up the technique for an element, it does not mean I want to see them in competition," Arutunian said. "Now, it's not a problem. When he was 15 or 16 and starting to do quads, I wanted him to try only one. I was trying to make him do much less. Now he is 18, and it is no problem."

Just spotted Nathan on DWTS

he was only onscreen for like a few seconds (team event medal ceremony) during Mirai’s segment, but still exciting to see him on tv :)

Thanks oatmella for sharing the icenetwork article, I read the entire piece and encourage all to read it, as a figure skating fan I’m one who love to see older ladies (in 20s and up) having healthy longevity in the senior level. While it’s awe inspiring to see the junior age to do the incredible jumps but frankly, the artistry doesn’t quite move me, just going through the motions/routines, even the ballet was a meh (to me). I think it fair to say the juniors are competing in a boyish body/weight do have an advantage. I enjoy watching Kostner and others alike though they may not have the quads or triple x 3, to me their programs and movements are storytelling techniques that draw me in. Also, it saddens me to think the juniors won’t have longer career in this high replaceable trend, I love to see Alina & Evgenia continue skating in their 20s.

Haha he will fan more fire with this straight talk...
"So the junior champion will be doing stuff that is more technically advanced. So what?" Arutunian says. "If you don't like it (seniors doing easier programs), go and watch junior skating.
"You have a choice: Go to watch jumping or go to watch ladies skate. It's not fair to a lady that the small kid with a boy's body competes against her."

Thanks for the info.! This can be a really nice mini vacation, but they only have 2 or 3 br suites left for that week. I will try to attend if I could find enough people to go with;)

Or you can look for hotel accommodations in nearby Ketchum, ID which is about a mile and a half from SV resort. They have normal more affordable national chain hotels there like best western.

Good luck! :)

New ice show http://fs-theice.com/

So his schedule so far

Heroes & Future - June 10
Dreams on Ice July 6, 7, 8
Sun Valley July 21
The Ice July 28-29, August 4-5

Busy July

he was trending in Japan on Twitter for awhile too :)

Yeah, something like that. Though the reaction to him is positive. Mao is doing her Thanks tour, so... though I hope one day for them to skate together.

See some wondering when he's going to train with all the Japan to US flying he'll have to do and with school in the fall and worrying about his health. Well, I kind of wonder too.

And Heros & Future is June 8-10 I think. I guess he's doing all 3 dates.

Nathan trending on Japanese twitter is nothing new. What people are surprised at is that he's receiving top billing on the website!

Compared to the US SOI tour the Japan shows are more like paid vacations. You do 3-4 shows per city, and you only need to perform one solo number.

If he follows the pattern from last year he'll debut his new SP at Sun Valley so he can practice it a few times at the Japan shows.

Yeah, didn't think it was that rare. I just follow tons of Japanese fans and they were talking about his trending. And the Japanese shows do seem less work than what's he's doing now.

Ah man, debut his short at Sun Valley? I was seriously debating taking a vacation to Cali to see it and now I want to even more. Even if he didn't, I still want to. I need to convince some people first though.

Top billing is really great. Moving up in the world. :hap85:

hope Nathan finds time to get some decent choreo and training in the summer for next season.
International, cross continents, flight with jet lag is tiring...
