Nathan Chen

The two times he did the quad loop, it was great iirc. Good landing and good flow. Seems he prefers the 4S though, they’re about the same points.

I still like No Good from US Nats the best. My favourite part of the entire program is when he scratches the ice with the back end of the blade and the transition into and upper body movement that go along with it and how it matches the music: https://youtu.be/sLZ_N7G9iNs?t=40  I've probably watched that part like 50 times. Don't think he did that move as well in the other two shows. Also the he just seemed the most into the program at US Nationals?

But I love how Nathan has multiple show programs throughout the entire season though.

I think No Good is my least favorite of his Ex. Nothing to do with his actual routine, I just don’t like the song so that automatically takes me out of it lol. I always wanted to see what his 2016 Nationals Ex routine to Dream On would have been like, I love that song and would like him to attempt it again at some point.

Speaking of styling.
I think Nathan already perfected his "Smize" like he perfected his all quads except for his 4S and the forgotten 4loop.
In terms of styling of his curls, I think the soft curl in his 2018 worlds or the early half of SOI show is great, perfect fluffiness. I will link that photo.
although, the chopped side and curls on top sk8ter hair style is also very cute. Don't know which hair style Nathan likes the best and will settle on. Maybe we could vote. including the newest "heart shaped" cow licks in harlem gala.
about suits. I will leave it to more seasoned fans like @sheetz here. I think he looks fab in all his suits baggy or not. you kr me.

I love his sk8er haircut - but I really liked his Olympics haircut too. I’m not sure Nathan has settled on a signature haircut yet.

haha yeah the baggy suits don’t really bother me and the imperfection just adds to his charm and ❄️ - like his white hair

There was a Nathan haircut poll before on twitter:

I think No Good is my least favorite of all his programs - sorry Nathan!

His nationals version was by far the performance of it - but it seems that he doesn’t really like this program either.

Of Nathan’s self choreo ex - I think Stole the Show is by far his best.

He sadly also mistimed these moves in the japanese show:

Looks to me like he simply didn't practice it much after nationals, when it was fairly new and still fresh in his mind. All the steps and elements looked more simplified and random in his other outings. I wonder why he chose to come up with his own program instead of sticking with this one? Maybe he didn't like something about it, after all?

Have you guyss discussed this? From here: http://www.icenetwork.com/news/2018/05/04/275097820
Rafael Arutunian told me he hopes to create a new training center at the four-ice-sheet complex scheduled to open in July 2018 in Irvine, California, where he would be head of a pyramid of coaches working together to develop skaters at all levels. (He envisions 20-30 coaches and dozens of skaters, with perhaps 20 of them at the novice level, 15 juniors and three or four elite seniors.) In turn, the more experienced coaches would develop the younger coaches, and some of them would go on to start their own centers.

It would be similar, on a larger scale, to what he has done the past two years at a Lakewood, California, complex under the same ownership and, in a sense, roughly like the arrangement in some of the Russian skating schools.

from the icenetwork article:

'Auxier: Exactly. I've tried to think of the root causes of why we haven't been competitive in men's and ladies and pairs, Nathan and Vincent [Zhou] aside, because they are incredible talents. '

Nathan and Vincent being named as the exceptions !

Wasn’t one of Nathan’s old choreographers and an old co-worker/friend of Raf’s talking about how Raf was hoping to start his own coaching facility and that he hopes the USFS supports him in that? I guess this was what he was referring to.

I hope it happens, Raf has been the only hope for US figure skating in the last 10 years or so and is the only one who’s been able to train students with consistent success for the single skaters with Nathan, Ashley, and Adam all having ranked top 6 in the world or better under his teaching and World/GPF medals/titles in Ashley/Nathan’s case, both cases ending long droughts for US. I think he’s earned support from USFS. Maybe that’ll be the answer to Eteri’s camp.

Also, thanks @Shine, I didn’t know he had performed Dream On before.

if you did not make it on Nathan FF 500 page, you can try to make it on Nathan FF 505 page. let it happen tomorrow on Nathan's B-day in US.

heyheyhey - what a coincidence about Dream On haha

I wonder who is going to have access to the Olympic-sized rink there - primarily Team Raf?

^ It seems so. I take it it’s gonna be like how the Russian coaches work like Eteri where they have a rink just for the skaters and a group of coaches train mainly novice and junior with a few elite skaters and Raf would be head coach of the entire thing. Like a training/boot camp.
