Nathan Chen

He seemed really off today. Something just didn't seem to click. I'm back to worrying again. I hope he's all right.

Me too - really hope he is all right

Not his best - but not *too* bad .... a strong FS tomorrow! :cheer:

Is he having boot problems though:( - they’re all duct taped up

I wouldn’t worry. As long as he qualifies, that’s all that matters. I’m actually relieved he made a mistake because I don’t want him peaking too soon. He needs to save that for the important competitions like National & Worlds especially. The scores are another matter lol, I have my grips on that because they ignored the mistakes of one guy but hammered Nathan but he’ll be fine.

It's just feels weird since it's been a while since he's been in this position of doing only a decent SP and not being first hasn't it? I don't count the OG since that's a different situation. And he can totally make up points in the FS. Not even worried there, but he has seemed off this week.

I'm surprised he went for the 4F. Won't get into scoring issues here. :slink:

And is he wearing his new boots? He's all taped up.

I also don't understand the edge calls.

Presscon

“The amount I practice per day changes depending on how much school work I have” - no set number of hours per day as there is a wide range

“Very impressed with skating I saw in GP series - Hanyu was incredible, very pleased for Michal after we’ve trained together for a few years now and I’ve got to see his ups and downs”

He's so sweet.

He was sloppier than usual, he lost points on levels that should be easy points so he needs to tighten that up, could just be an off week, it happens or could be boot problems etc, we’ll find out soon enough.

But yea he can make up points in the FS. He’s planning 4 quads but it might be better for him to stick with his Skate America layout if he wants to win. If he doesn’t care about winning & wants to use this as a GPF mock test, that’s fine too. The 4F is usually one of his money jumps but he probably should’ve just stuck with 4T. Oh well, we’ll see tomorrow. I’m sure this does nothing but motivate him, he’s like that.

Supposedly he landed a good 4F in the warmup. Just one of those things. Agree about being sloppy. He wasn't nearly as energetic either. I'm not too worried at all. I just hate the talk that will result from him not being perfect.

That was a very subpar performance....even without the fall :( All the nuances were again, gone. Will he ever learn to keep the performance up while adding/falling on quads?

The F hasn't been money this season. He got edge calls on all his flips (!) at SkAm and two-footed and flipped out on the quad in the SP.

He also seemed to have a slight cough in the Tuk interview and was popping jumps during practice. I was worried the whole day.

Now he mentions that the amount of practice he gets in a day depends on the amount of school work. :(

I mean give him time? He’ll develop at his own pace. He doesn’t have to improve everything all at once. It’ll happen in its own time but he also has a lot on his plate & is adapting still to a new situation. We have to be patient. I’m sure he’s not happy with himself right now either, there’s always tomorrow.

Well, yeah he got edge calls but the edge calls make no sense at all.

And I'm just worried and stressing. It's part of being a Nathan stan.

They’ve been hammering everyone on flips this year but yea he’s had problems with it during his skates lately. He’s done it fine in practice.

I don’t take anything that happens in practices as much of an indication of how the actual skate will go. It almost never matters at the end of the day. His main problem was just he got sloppy, the jumps were fine other than the fall. He lost more points over levels than the fall.

Well I’m sure we expected that no? He has to accustom his training to school work to balance it out. As long as he gets to practice everyday, I don’t think that’s much of a problem.

Tbh I think we’re just spoiled in that we rarely have to deal with him placing than less than first so when he’s not perfect, we go into panic mode lol. He’ll be alright lol. Trust me, it’s much better he gets his mistakes out now and peaks at the right time. I’m only annoyed at the inconsistent scoring here but it is what it is. He’s got to tighten up those levels.
