Nathan Chen

so excited to see him on a cereal box!!! it's like solid proof that he has a permanent place in us fs history haha (remember when he first made his senior debut? it feels like it was so long ago aa)

off topic; does anyone happen to know where (specifically) to get that nike jacket nathan was wearing a lot last season? i've looked everywhere™ but i haven't been able to find it???

More like remember him when he was a novice champ at the US national's exhibition? It's surreal to see how far he came.

I've seen it before on the Nike online store but can't seem to find it now. I believe it's this one. Looks like it may have been discontinued.

Interview with Nick Z
http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2017/10/30/nathan-chen/

Says another sponsor to be announced later this week. He reiterates that he'd like to continue for another four years. :yahoo:

I’d love to believe that. But I’m in a basketball town where undergrads say they’ll stay on after they win the NCAA. They always leave... I worry that he won’t be motivated to stay if he wins a OGM. Very few are. :(

I don't see how that compares. NCAA stars move up to the NBA whereas figure skaters have nowhere else to go. If Nathan wins OGM I think he is so competitive that he'd want to go for the historic repeat in Beijing.

I am afraid of that too - that he might lose motivation to continue in FS if he wins OGM.

Especially considering he has so many other talents, so many other things he might want to try out... career options that are perhaps longer lasting or more reliable/lucrative... etc.

And OGM is a very real possibility for him...

Not a perfect analogy. I know they leave because teams start mentioning numbers with a lot of zeros behind them. But lots of other skaters left after they got their OGM. He idolized Plushenko so I he’ll follow his example with continuing on past the gold medal.

Or Hanyu. I think the fact that both Yuzuru and Shoma have expressed desire to stay after 2018 might also be a motivating factor for him. They have such a positive competitive vibe going right now.

Oh! A new competive trio! For four years? I'll take that!

Yes, I do in fact see similarities between Nathan and Plushenko/Hanyu. Some people think Nathan skates simply to win but I don't see that at all. I feel he wants to push the sport as far as he can and show everyone just what he is capable of. I think he wants to be the first to land 5 different quads in a program and to be the first to land a quad-quad combo. But I also think he wants to improve his components by continuing to build on his dance training and bringing his SS up to Chan-like levels. In short, I think Nathan wants to be the best.

Indeed. You kinda get that's where he's going with the programs he has chosen this year, the new 4loop, and the fact that he mentioned components several times and how he's focused more on quality over quantity in this most recent interview. I do also remember him saying something to the effect of "if Patrick can have both jumps and ss, so can I". He wants to do them all and leave a mark. Who thinks he's only skating to win?

I'm definitely having a case of Nathan withdrawal. Cup of China and still no Nathan . Curious about the touchups with Lori, which jumps he'll stick with, whether he'll improve his camel (), etc. He's like a sponge; I love his commitment to improving.

I don't think I've been this excited about a US skater since Michelle Kwan.

Nathan does remind me of a younger Michelle, too. America's "Next Michelle Kwan" could very well be a boy from SLC.

United has a new PR about its sponsored athletes with a (tiny) photo and video at the bottom of the page. Nathan's voice can be heard in the video but I didn't actually spot him anywhere. I could have easily missed him, however.

I thought it was strange for Nathan to be back in LA instead of at the big NYC media event, but according to Romain's Snapchat story he's doing some kind of NBC promo thing at their rink today.

^Can I just say Nathan has the most beautiful use of arms in the business? It's seriously so effective, so detailed, and so seamless with extension down to the finger tips, and those Inside Skating photos did a great job capturing that.
