Nathan Chen

Also worried as a fan! Concern, not panic.

But can’t help remembering Raf saying at Nationals that Nathan being able to train with him for a few weeks over the winter break was key to his success at Nationals.

Oh well, nothing we can do but hope for the best:pray:

Nathan seems so relaxed and happy. I don’t think he’s all that stressed, unlike last semester. And he’s in good condition, so glad.

That’s the most important factors for succeeding in competition so since he seems to have those bases covered, everything else is just logistics. He’s not with Raf (him specifically, someone in team Raf could be there tho) earlier because both of them agreed it’s not necessary, that’s actually reassuring to me. He’s in much better condition than he was last semester so probably less time with Raf in person is necessary. He’ll probably fly to Japan soon & meet up there. He’s ready guys, just trust him. When he seems relaxed like this, it’s because he’s pretty confident. It’s a good thing.

I too am trying not to be a worrywart about Nathan lol. I just hope he can skate at Worlds like he did at Nationals

Easier said than done. I was even stressed for him during Nationals haha, Hard to take things for granted after the Olympics.

I think Nats felt more stressful because he was the heavy favorite despite not having skated all that well until then. But now that he's skated two clean programs the pressure is a little off. And even though he obviously wants to win Worlds again, under the circumstances it wouldn't be a complete disgrace if he didn't.

He’s going into a Worlds a bit of an underdog (which he says he prefers) despite being the reigning champion. Maybe that will help take some of the pressure off - a lot of the attention won’t be on him.

I am always stressed though no matter the event:p

Nathan Chen's room is fashionable! We show state to relax in one's room

Chen's room is decorated with basketball uniforms, his Yale University flag, and the California flag. It seems that he cares about the decoration of the room.

Chen's room has a sense of cleanliness and no impression of killing.

Chen, who has a glamorous costume and is full of clean feeling, seems to be demonstrating his sense of beauty even in a private place away from the competition.

By the way, looking back at Mr. Chen's Instagram, many photographs of buildings and landscapes have been posted. Such sense of aesthetics may be acting on the sense of managing the room.

How so? I see people everywhere touting him the favourite to win, which I certainly don't agree with, but those are quite the expectations to live up to.

Interview with ISU Vice President Alexander Lakernik: https://sport.business-gazeta.ru/article/235944

A number of athletes say that such a system devalues the elements of ultra-si. Thereby inhibits the development of sports ...

- Does not devalue, but increases the risks. This encourages quality in relation to complexity. Now, to win, you need to do everything and difficult and high quality. If you make difficult items, but poor quality, you lose points. More than before. It's right.

The original goal of raising penalties for mistakes did not stand, but it happened. For the viewer, this is good. He does not need jumps with falls and under-rotations. Figure skating became clear. The one who makes the elements purely and not the one with the fall wins. Yes, and I do not see that the athletes have stopped making complex elements. They still do. Is that in pairs skating disappeared quadruple emissions. Well, well, will be more whole. You need to do what you know how, what worked well.

Why include in the program six quadruple jumps, when you can include three or four? And the program will look better, and it will be easier to prepare a clean rental. Programs with six quaternals - it's just a run from one jump to another!

Stop. Are you talking about Nathan Chen?

- Including. Where he does not jump six quadruple, the program is visible. For example, he has a very good short program. Including because he has less jumps there. And in arbitrary one jumps and nothing else - who needs this? He drives and jumps. Then again. With so many quads, it's physically hard to do something in between. Need a more balanced program. The idea of our sport is to show an interesting program and complex, high-quality elements.

Sport both went and will go the same way: faster, higher, stronger. And these decisions do not aim to abolish this fundamental principle of sport. They do not inhibit the development of figure skating. They make people make their rentals of high quality. Can't you do pure six quads? Include in the program two, three, four. Another question is that it is impossible to bend the stick in such measures. To jumps depreciated.

Not saying that some aren't putting expectations on him to win, but it doesn't seem like he's going into this as the favorite. Which is fine and perhaps better for him:) The media attention will be largely on Yuzu, and also Shoma - understandably so.

How so? I see people everywhere touting him the favourite to win, which I certainly don't agree with, but those are quite the expectations to live up to.

Most people think Hanyu has the best chance from what I’ve seen. He’s had more time to comeback from his injury than last time, it’s in Japan, and he still has more scoring potential than both if he’s clean. Certainly Nathan is seen as the biggest threat but I think many are anticipating that one of the Japanese has the best chance to win at home. Maybe US fans/media see Nathan as more of a favorite tho because of Nationals. I think most agree it’ll be close and can go any which way. No overwhelming favorite.

Well, it's obvious he's training at Yale for worlds. I think he'll stay there until he leaves for Japan.

And I don't think anyone sees him as the favorite for winning worlds. Everyone I see says Yuzu for gold and Nathan for silver (or sometimes even bronze).

@Ic3Rabbit, do you know when the sun valley show schedule will come out? Need to find out which week will Nathan be there is he is still going this year. Thank you!
