Nathan Chen

Alice commented on Nathan’s post:
‘... nathan gets embarrassed when HIS OWN FAMILY sings his praises ... the deference he shows in his interviews is the same he shows behind closed doors when the cameras are gone.’

He’s genuinely very humble.

it's kind of sad that his family had to come out to defend him. Some people, stop attacking the skaters! They are all hard working and deserve all the respect and love from us. Out of all sports, figure skate is probably the 'worst' on ROI (return on investment): the injuries, the ghostly costs, and the unpredictable results on ice produce nothing but little financial returns and very shot career span. Sometimes I am amazed that so many athletes are still pursuing this sport. We should be grateful these skaters are willing to endure all the obstacles to put on a wonderful performance for us.

Maybe he will go for the borscht too - I think he had an instant borscht soup packet in his candy drawer.

Wondering if he really eats ramen that often - maybe he’s always thinking about ramen because he’s not supposed to be eating it all the time:p High in carbs and sodium. Seems like a post-comp treat at least:)

I didn't expect him. I wonder when he got to Japan. I'm not stressing about WTT, though I bet he's tired.

He was probably preoccupied watching the 76ers-Heat game :p

and crying over that commercial :cry:

Strategically is there any reason to go all out for this competition? I haven't cranked the numbers but it seems the battle for gold is probably between USA and Russia. So can he just let Shoma win and try to finish second/third with Vincent? He can even let Vincent beat him, too, and it won't matter as far as team points.

I think you have to be more conservative in this comp because the points are per segment, not overall. So you can't make up points you lose in the SP in the FS.

I don’t think so - provided Vincent skates well - and seems that he’s in good condition and has been continuously training.

It appears that Shoma is going for maximum.

Honestly I don’t want Nathan to go all out - has he even been practicing much lately ... but want the most prize money for him:)

I don't know how much he's been practicing. Apparently Ingalls closed on 3/31 for the summer so unless they kept it open for him he would have had to go to Champions.

Thinking practice time lately would be minimal. When he got back to Yale, likely focusing on catching up with his classes, also dealing with jet lag - then he went to SLC. I guess he could have practiced some there?

Now dealing with jet lag again:p

I was thinking Vincent might actually do really well here. He's going to be the most rested of all the guys. So it should leave Nathan some breathing room.

He doesn't need to go all out since pretty watered down he can get at least 2nd or 3rd. Team events with jet lag in fluff competitions aren't his strong suit. :ohwell: And I'm not sure how he's recovered from coming back from Japan, let alone going back again a week later.

The state of his 4F can’t possibly be better right now than at Worlds ... don’t see him attempting two of them.

I think going for clean programs with lower tech is likely the best plan ...

Shoma is planning two 4F in his FS!

Nam’s planned content has three 4S in his FS, lol
