Nathan Chen

Weird that he missed his second 4T. Maybe he was tired? Or maybe he's been training it less since he took it out of the SP?

I really like the updated FS step sequence.

I'm already obsessed with this move. So unexpected, so beautiful

Me too :love2: The Day 2 version right? I don't think he was actually doing it to the music on Day 1.
Now the only thing we are waiting for is what the updated choreo sequence will look like. He omitted it both days because of jump troubles... but according to the interview, he worked really hard to squish the jumps closer together to give it more time. Here’s to hoping for a rocking choreo sequence!

IKR I thought the same (it almost felt like he left it out on purpose ;) you know because of "jump troubles").
I'll be so disappointed if they didn't anything interesting to it, though :(.

Day 2 runthru
Wow! He even went for the second attempt at the second quad toe at the end just to show he could.

I’m also astonished that he’s able to change his flip technique from Mohawk to 3turn just like that, given how the timing changes ... and it’s a quad.

I might have missed it but is he planning to do 4F+3T instead of 4T+3T in the SP? I know the toe is very consistent too and it might be a comfort thing. But he might as well given his flips are having huge success rate and he can max out on points without much extra risk of losing here if he doesn’t hit it.

Yes, at least for the nationals.

Phil asked him about it

”I just want to challenge myself,” he said. “I have been doing that same (quad) toe combo for some time now...and flip is feeling strong enough now to attempt in second half. . . if it comes down to its not happening in training, it’s just not worth it, but given that it is sort of an unconventional season, it seems the best time to kind of try new layouts….”

Just got off the plane so missed the entire mens short. Maybe he was a little tight. Didn't seem to have his usual energy.

Very good performance! In his interview afterward, he said his jumps could have been a little better, but overall he seemed satisfied with what he had done. Considering he had his 4F3T in the second half (does anyone have that difficult a combo in second half?) and he hasn’t performed that layout in competition before, I will give him a break. I don’t think anyone complained about his costume today, so that’s a step forward. LOL

Overall I am happy with today’s performance. Little hesitated going to the lutz and the landing was a little shaky. Better energy during step sequence.

Ella5555, there are comments about his lack of costume (e.g. Patrick). I’m just happy it wasn’t one of his ill fitting outfits( a la Vera Wang) or that short jacket from Skate America.
Super happy with the costume it addressed my 2 issues at SkAm:

1. Removing the jacket makes the fit better and shows his lines more.

2. I got the belt I was asking for hahaha, his pant loops flapping around at SkAm were a bit distracting.

He may have been tight due to feeling the pressure from vincent. He skates 3rd to last tomorrow.
He is used to skating with Yuzuru’s 110+ SP, so I don’t really think Vincent is the main factor here. He was also kind of nervous at SkAm, not this obvious though. I think it is more from this new combo thing at the 2nd half.

For some reason, his 3A was not as stable as before when put in programs, may also be this spread eagle entry thing.

Exactly what I’m thinking. I have nothing to complain 😆

Different situation, though. Here nathan is the overwhelming favorite and vincent scored a huge pb. Against yuzu he's usually been the underdog.
