Nathan Chen

You know a program is awesome when you can just watch the in betweens and get the feels. His choreographers earned their money this year. I think the free is so well constructed and satisfying. There are three distinct sections and a coda. The Rite of Spring footwork is genius at building tension and contrasting the film score. Then music resolves itself in a very triumphant way at the end as well so you're ready to jump out of your seat. Very smart for the Olympic season.
I'm realizing more and more these days that the irony with Nathan is that his skating is even more impressive when he doesn't jump (or does easier jumps) since he can really focus on interpretation and giving all the movement fullness :drama:

Well, I believe he will win Olympic Gold so there's that.

Anything is possible! I think that Nathan would be a very nice addition to the Olympic podium.
He's got the goods to win Gold. Now that he has won his first GP Gold I expect his PC's will rise.
He is a threat for sure for that top spot.

I thought so too. They should have an oxygen tank ready for the men. They are so physically exhausted after expending so much bodily energy with their jumps.
I just feel winning the Olympics in 2018 will hold so much more weight than it ever did before. These men are insane.

I don't know a lot about Boyang but Nathan, Yuzuru, and Shoma are definitely unhinged.

Tidbits:

At the press conference Nathan's first words are to congratulate Yuzu for landing his 4Lz

Nathan's interview in the Japanese fashion magazine Spur hits the newsstands on Monday. The publisher really knew how to time it right!

Ha. Brandon Mroz landed it years ago but it didn't catch on until Boyang and Nathan both landed it consistently last season. Now there are more men attempting 4Lz than there are ladies attempting 3A.

Here's an interview Raf gave to Russian media. It is more or less fully comprehensible using Google Translate.

Thanks for the article! I don't need the translate, but with a quick skim I was quite annoyed by how the interviewer keeps pressing him on the "7 quad jumps" (seriously I really don't think the poor guys should subject their bodies to a 4A!). But the coach's responses are actually incredibly level-headed, especially when asked if there should be a minimum age to enter the senior competitions, etc.

So happy for Nathan. Fingers crossed that he gets better costumes for his programs, especially his gorgeous LP. Such epic music deserves better than his Jeremy Abbott plain shirt and pants get up.

Raf's russian interview is indeed a nice read!
Another piece of info is that they seems will settle down Nathan's jump layout by December.

I agree, Nathan needs better costume. I usually prefer simple costumes, but that costumes coming after Yuzuru. is indeed visionally lacking. Although people's opinion may change after Nathan started to move, but the first impression seems a little lacking. I don't know...

hmm... I love his now costume, but i think he can get the better costume.

also Nathan needs to take some lesson in Math!
Are you referring to the extra 2T? It might've been intentional this time, because by doing that he avoided the REP 70% rule. So basically, he only lost the 2T but got full BV for the 3A thanks to the invalid 2T (I think).

I am aware of that, I think that is purely coincidence  (Lucky Boi), if Nathan is truly good at Math, maybe he should tag-2loop instead.

Anyways, glad ISU changed the previous Zayak rule. otherwise, Nathan Boi (who needs Math lesson) will suffer dearly:biggrin:

i have been a quiet fan for a while ;) but time to come out ;)

i love Nathan's skating for a few reasons... especially his great extended lines. Incredible how he skates for such a young age.

i am thrilled to see how he keeps improving in all aspects of skating, not just jumps.

I am sure when your man Patrick skates next week we will be seeing a lot of you. :)

just watched CBC's board-cast of COR men's
a little underwelmed by their commentary this time. Apparently CBC did not started the GP commentary mode yet. the seems did not even do enough preparation.
They are confused about Nathan's FS choreographer.
And their commentary for both Nathan and Yuzuru are just checking off bullet list, and trying to be political correct and side with status quo.
Not the usual CBC commentary that is quite insightful.

So far, Nathan using this creative FS music that nobody has ever heard from seems did not get him any benefit yet (because no one has either heard of it), although it has been a fan favorite.

I personally am disappointed. NO WONDER skaters use war-horses and do repeats all the time.......!

Oddly enough, I've just come out as a Patrick Chan fan. So, there you go. Nuclear war between USA and Canada avoided.

Nathan starts off the press conference by congratulating Yuzuru on his first successful 4L
https://twitter.com/gurikonoomake1/status/921730210717765633

Jackie Wong also quoted Yuzuru for saying "Sitting next to me is a wonderful person with great jumps and presentation".

It's so awesome they have such a friendly and inspiring rivalry going on which seems to really be pushing each other (along with the other contenders) to be the best they each can be as well as pushing the sport to an insane level. And that often being the best you can be is more important than beating your opponents.

apparent, CBC may or may not have a clue that Nathan admires Patrick ...
okay, They may have a little clue.
