Nathan Chen

Boi looked fabulous in dark color in that ice arena
And music sounded perfectly too.

It was fascinating watching it from that view. I think Lori's choreographic choices play even better from there. You can clearly see the changes in the movement as the music changes. It's also a good reminder that all of those old school things like posture and lines are even more important without a tight TV shot. It looks so much more majestic when something is stretched out properly and it creates lovely geometric shapes.

yes, very complete ice coverage and patterns, we talking about change of directions, the shapes created by Nathan's edges and body lines.
Lori is especially good in this department, If you are familiar with Patrick's trending leading skating style a few years back (choroed by Lori)
The signature is the complicated geometric shaped/pattens created on ice.
Not straight line from one end jump then to another end.

You got to have a over-all live view to appreciate it tho, not very obvious on TV

Nathan's in-betweens, including stsq and final spin run-thru. :love:

I'm so glad they filmed this. Like GGFan said, I think this program can be appreciated both close-up as well as from a distance. During the step-sequence it literally felt like Nathan was painting on the ice-canvas with his edges and whole-body movement. And he carries himself like a dancer. I like how much bigger and more open he skates this year and the way he uses his upper body including the neck/head. So beautiful and expressive :love:

It is great that Nathan worked with BOTH Shae and Lori
Every of these 2 choreographers has their strength and could give Nathan different aspects.
Glad that both Choreographers DID a wonderful job for Nathan.
SP is so genius and classic of Shae
and FP is vintage of Lori with a twist of uniqueness. If you familiar with Lori's music choice, she has a weird, not so commercial (I will put it this way) taste/preferences. If you really look at her work that is inspired by her muses (not for the money ones)

Nathan must be a choregrapher's dream because he's such a talented dancer and always wanting to try new things.

I think the second kitty wanna copy Nathan's moves, maybe he wanna become the quad king of kitty kingdom.

Congratulations to Nathan for his win at Rostelecom :yay:.

In case anyone is interested, just wanna mention that isufigureskating's Instagram story this morning had a cool photo ... reflecting the ever-changing nature of Nathan's planned elements.

The photo showed planned content printouts from Oct 17 with the heading of "Please check/verify/correct" -- to which Nathan and Yuzuru had added handwritten revisions along with their signatures.
Nathan had made a lot :laugh: of handwritten revisions.
And his handwritten revisions still do not quite match the Oct 19 printout available from the ISU site.

For Nathan's FS, for example, the changes (in sequence, I think) to planned jumps were:

4Lo
4Lz --> 4F+3T (handwritten)
3F+3T --> 4S (handwritten)
3Lz+2T --> 4Lo (handwritten) --> 4Lz (Oct 19 printout)
3F --> 4T+3T (handwritten)
3T --> 3A (handwritten)
3S --> 3A+2T+2Lo (handwritten)
3A+2T+2Lo --> 2Lo (handwritten) --> 3Lz (Oct 19 printout)

For Nathan's SP:

3A --> 4Lo+3T (handwritten [or 2T? hard to read]) --> 4Lz+3T (Oct 19 and Oct 20 printouts)
4F+2T --> 4F (handwritten)
3Lz --> 3A (handwritten)

(Sorry if the Instagram story already was discussed elsewhere. Impossible to keep up with all the Nathan stuff on GS.)

BTW, Rostelecom video link from nbcsports.com (commentary-free):
Nathan Chen SP (5:27)

Nathan Chen's victory over Yuzuru was the most exciting moment in the tournament. Yuzuru scored around 195 with a new quadruple jump and he finished first in the free skate. But Nathan won because of his short program score, which was over 100. I was lucky enough to watch it live, hoping for this outcome.

anyone has olympic channel of chen's FS? seems like there are live coverage and i know NBC gonna broadcast highlight later hope someone record it :pray:

disappointed B.esp didn't air men FS

I wanna see english commentators reaction to the moment when Rafael squashed Chen.it's so sweet.

many many thxxx in advance

He's magnificent. What a star!
Nice music in his FP too; despite all the powerful quads, it still manages to be peaceful and relaxing.

I love Nathan's SP however I wasn't completely sold on his FS but I did recognize the music. I later realized it was from the movie that I own and love "Mao's Last Dancer" about a ballet dancer from China. Given Nathan's history in doing ballet it seems fitting for him. I now have a new appreciation for his FS.
