The article also touched upon resource allocation. Seems like USFS hopes to get more resources from US Olympic committee to support elite figure skaters like Nathan. Hope they can work something out.

By resources do they mean money? Not sure Nathan's problem can be solved by money. Though getting monetary support is always nice:-)

I think he is dying to enjoy a normal life even just for a short period of time. He is still young and the next Olympics is 4 years away. He sacrificed so much to get to this point. Maybe taking a break will give him a fresh perspective on how much he loves skating and competing.

I hope he can, for even just a year. Just as oatmella said, he clearly missed regular public school--that's one of my most vivid impressions from the TSL interview.

yyyskate, thank you for your kind reply. I hope somebody in New Haven can at least provide a dog for Nathan to occasionally cuddle with. Even if he can't have his brothers watching over him, and can't walk Bolt, he seems to fare better when there is a friendly dog around.

And anyone who saved the article on ice-network before it was edited, the pre-expurgated version, please send me a pm.

yeah, maybe Nathan does want to experience normal college life at least for a little while - among the beautiful Hogswarts-esque gothic towers of Yale, attending actual non-online classes - with time to enjoy the normal college stuff - late nights at the library, the cafeteria salad bar, parties and maybe even find his Hermione😍. And also having the time to expand his literary knowledge beyond Harry Potter - haha kidding.

good news for him, all freshmen live on Old Campus, so even if he gets assigned to Morse or Stiles (the modern, non-Hogwart residential colleges), he gets to experience Hogwart at least for a year. And the joys of doing laundry in the basement of the dorms, finding other people's socks and underwear in your own load of laundry :)

as for your wanting him to expand his literary taste, that's right up there with my wanting him to find floppy shirts that don't obscure his lines (if Kolyada can do it, why can't Nathan?), my wanting him to discover how much easier his jumps would be if he had better speed and skating skills... dreams are dreams because they have nothing to do with reality. though it's been said college is horizon expanding, so you stand a better shot of getting your wish fulfilled than i do, especially if he takes humanities classes to protect himself from bad grades in core science classes while trying to have it all / skate competitively. he'll soon master the art of turning 1/2 page of content into 15 pages of drivel while sucking down Cola and Entenmann cookies

ETA
oatmella, do you really want to add his Hermione into this? Odds are, this experiment has a finite limit--even if he doesn't transfer elsewhere he's going to have to take time off if he's really aiming for the top skating podiums, IMHO, and I don't want him to have to deal with a long distance relationship on top of all the other stresses in his life. On the other hand, if he's really lucky, that could be the most valuable thing to come out of the combining Yale with skating experiment.

On Non-Yale, ignore if shared. shibssibs instastory has another rehearsal shot, that’s all.

@SkatingMusic the resources should be more than money, personnel, logistics, facilities and maybe pay his coach travel to train him over at Yale... just wanna say best of luck and be happy Nathan Chen 🙌🏼

I would settle for Yuki S from IMG finding Nathan a local family (faculty, alum, student at Yale or University of New Haven) whose dog adores Nathan. And it is goes without saying that there must be a dog available for all cuddling needs at Beijing Olys. Do you think it's a coincidence that he did so well at Milan Worlds? I saw at least one Nathan picture with a dog at Milan--was the dog called Milo?

There is a lot of completely unsubstantiated thoughts on here and on twitter about what Nathan thinks/feels - we can speculate all day about what might eventually happen - but is it necessary to psychoanalyze his every move?

Of the few news outlets I’ve read today, most content looks like carbon copies of one another. We can enjoy some sweet tea, sit back and enjoy more SOI posts and before we know it, it’ll be May 2nd and he’ll probably share Nothing LoL and we’ll come back here and draft up another 20 pg thread about it.

Actually, most but not all freshman live in Old Campus. If he ends up in Silliman or Timothy Dwight, he will be living in the residential college itself, not with all the freshman. I think it’s the same thing for the two new residential colleges as well.

I was never a big fan of Morse and Stiles, but I know athletes who liked being in Stiles because it was across the street from Payne Whitney, the main gym. Walking to the gym when it’s snowing or raining isn’t fun!

From news segment on SOI, loving the further re-emergence of curls, but Nathan - we can still see you chewing gum:

What's more amazing than 6 quads is that he is getting better and better and better and better....looking day by day:o:...Nathan is 6-quad-handsome

We need to find out what's his favorite gum:love::slink:

SOI IG story has the skaters in a group number. Nathan's really sharp with his moves. The US cast seem to be better dancers overall than the Japanese cast.
