Nathan Chen

NO, I always enjoy reading your posts!!! Very informational/educational, calm, and sometimes keep some "crazy" guessing here in check. It is really sad to read that you have this feeling.

Yes+2 you and a few keep it informative, educational and like bonita said, keep guessing/speculation = facts away. You can post or visit when you feel like it haha

I understand and love the major fangirling going on in here but feel with my pro position, maybe I don’t belong here. :ohwell:

Please stay! I appreciate your insightful posts and comments. They are truly a highlight because this old auntie also finds some of the fangirling uncomfortable.

Everyone is welcome here. I'm in my thirties, so fangirling won't happen with me. I still see him as a kid, since I've been a fan of his since he was 11. But anyone that has admiration for Nathan has the right to shout it from the rooftops.

Nathan's old aunties/mom fans and Nathan's teen/young lady fans
We need a group hug here .:ghug::ghug:
And ofc never foreget the precious male fans (straight or gay or trans or...) here.
A bigger group hug
:ghug::ghug::ghug::ghug:

:ghug: it all out with our Boi Nathan :ghug:

EDIT: added Nathan's 30 sth fans (Ya know, V has said he felt himself like a 30 sth man ). So you see age is really not a problem at all:biggrin:

Absolutely! I feel no shame in saying that Nathan had grown up to be such a fine young man! The shipping is weird, but that just means he's handsome and charismatic. But I'm most proud of his character. He's intelligent, mindful, respectful, diligent, and kind. I couldn't ask for a better nephew!

I believe you can understand Nathan's teen fans say "I couldn't ask for a better husband".

I hope I won't get a warning for this.:scard7:

Me - a younger brother haha are we drafting family tree now?

:thank: all! I will stay! :)

@yyyskate. I missed that in the fast moving of this thread. I will write later, since I’ll be busy most of day.

:ghug:

Man, I hope people don't feel uncomfortable. There are tons of older fans here, and some of his best fans on twitter are older fans. I'm older than he is by more than a few years and he's too young for me to seriously fangirl, but I do think he's cute and fluffy (which I will repeat often ) on top of being immensely talented. And I'm thankful to him as since he got me interested in skating again. There is a place to everyone here. :ghug:

glad you are staying Ic3Rabbit

I have a question for yyyskate (but also for other non US/EU fans): you mentioned some 20 pages before that Nathan personality is less apt from Chinese perspective than V's: in which way? Sorry for asking this, is just that i'm always very eager to find out about cultures different than mine and their values/perspectives/expectations ecc...I hope it's not too OT, otherwise feel free not to reply!

this is almost is a consensus among Chinese figure skating (or the shared fans of Vincent and Nathan). actually, surprisingly , there are not much of a over-lap of these 2 Chinese fandoms, considering they are very similar background, both first generation Chinese American skaters.
I think V is cute, and have debated with some Chinese Nathan fans, but as you might guessed, it is a failed attempt.:p
Mostly, they think Nathan's personality and hobbies are considered very attractive in US, such as liking NBA basket ball, playing guitar/singing, skate boarding etc. Wild curls, nonchalant altitude etc. They think Nathan is a rebellion of the stereotype of Chinese American. they also think perhaps Nathan's look is more appealing to US aesthetics such as his eyes etc.
as for V, he likes literature, poetry and looked very wholesome and driven and speaks brilliant Chinese and his looks (big eyes with nicely combed straight hair) and mannerism (polite, intelligent, articulate with huge vocab) give some traditional Chinese Prince Charming vibe, Chinese fans have used Jade, Noble man to describe him. some even think V felt more Chinese than their own.

If you wanna use puppies to decribe them, Chinese fans think V is like Golden retriever puppy while N is like Husky puppy.

I think I have covered all, maybe some other Nathan fans here can give more insight.

I personally think V is cute too, but my opinion is really just a minority opinion among Chinese Nathan fans.

EDIT: I wanna emphasize here, this is NOT my personal opinion.

I love this place not only because I can feel and share the enthusiasm with Nathan fans, but also this is a safe place where I can learn more about figure skating without dealing with those pretend to be objective critism.

I enjoy everyone's posts and love you all:luv17::ghug:

yyyskate - husky puppy😂

Chinese American here - Nathan is a lot more typical American teenager than V - the way he speaks, slang, interests, style, sneaker obsession, music preference, etc

V seems more of an old soul and his personality traits and fairly good (my mom thinks he should improve more though lol) Chinese language skills are appealing to Chinese fans

V has a taller and more lanky frame - which could be more appealing to Chinese fans

Somewhere like Hong Kong though (more western influence) - I could see how they could go crazy about Nathan - but I don’t really know if he’s known there

V's looks is the major draw initially. This traditional Chinese prince charming look. Some skating fans even predicted that V will has the same scale of Chinese fan girl like Yuzuru's Chinese fans in future.
But Nathan's fandom is catching up quickly, mostly his undeniable hotness. I don't know if I can post here, but the most words associates with Nathan (among his Chinese fans) is hot (and you fill in the blank) let me just say the discussion around Nathan's hotness among Chinese fans are way more open and free than this board.

I think their skating styles, tastes in music etc are distinctive enough to attract different fans. Perhaps v's style is more appealing to Chinese audiences or maybe it's just his team did a better job in packaging him.

yyyskate - husky puppy😂

I am confused - is N a lot more popular than V in China?

I am not sure, I am speaking from Nathan's fans perspective. I debated with Nathan's Chinese fan. Nathan is ofc more popular among Nathan fans in China:biggrin:

I think initially, V has more fans ,but Nathan's fans are catching up quickly, after all, he is the OGM contender and the number 1 US man.

Somewhere like Hong Kong though (more western influence) - I could see how they could go crazy about Nathan - honestly he’s way better looking imo than any of the HK celebs imo - but I don’t really know if he’s known there
Although I don’t think they are the majority, but I actually see adjectives such as ugly (believe or not) used regularly enough when discussing Nathans’s looks among Chinese fans and Vincent is somehow considered traditionally better looking than Nathan :confused2: Also I think Chinese people are generally less politically correct when discussing appearances and there’s a higher degree of tolerance in terms of how much you are able to comment on people’s looks publically in general. Quite different from the West.

Interesting thoughts, but the idea of Nathan being seen as rebellious is kind of amusing. Maybe by appearance, but he's like the perfect kid and excels at multiple artistic endeavors all while having the perfect Math SAT. Though he is the quintessential American teenage boy by likes (minus gaming!) and how he dresses, but with a lot more talent and intelligence.

Now this reminds me of a tweet explaining the different between the two (from an American fan pov), but I will not share it here. :scard7:

It's true, I think from an Asian perspective Nathan is seen as a bit wild. Like showing up to press conferences wearing shorts, or sporting unruly curls like he did at last year's DOI, or having a *gasp* blonde girlfriend.
