Nathan Chen

But even Delmore had local people he worked with. I wonder if Nathan will have his choregrapher(s) come to work with him on occasion. He's said before that Shae would sometimes train him in Lakewood, though she may have been pulling double duty with Ashley at the time.

How much can one improve SS by oneself? Is it enough to have trained with people like Marina, Shae, and Patrick to then be able to employ those methods for himself?
Didn't Raf say Nathan could take lessons for a week or two and come back after 3 months doing everything he taught him? That's even when he was much younger? Like 10?

He can also do remote sessions with other specialists or choreographers.

He’ll probably Snapchat Nike the shoes he want and voila, UPS next day to his home haha Shibs are in NYC too. Maybe meeting up with choreographer:)

Shibs are back in Detroit.

No, it is not enough. I am just trying to think of reasons for his decision about another coach.

I shared your concerns about no coach, no training mate etc. I am concerned to some degree, but not that much concerned. He might make necessary changes once school or season starts when he has better assessment of what challenges he has and what options he has. That is why I said “ at this point”.

And I mentioned in another reply, raf might be able to send someone there like What he did in Mao’s situation. And could Nathan pays to get someone like Shae to come to him sometime? And ice house is not far away. Maybe he can get help from there, just not in the capacity of a coach.

As for physio, I think he should be able to find some help in Yale.

Srsly, i don’t think RAF would not voice his concern if things not going very well in terms of development and progress, so does nathan’s family. But the kid is his own man, who likes to experience and figure out things himself, people just need to work with him until he realizes what needs to be done himself.

As to improvement of ss, I guess he has short term and long term goals. I just take it as a long term goal to set my expectations.

Ps, I really don’t think remote sessions work that well. Needs to be in person to make any instructions work well.

ETA: didn’t Delmore hire a ballet dancer locally to help him? Maybe Nathan can find someone in Yale’s dancing program:laugh::laugh:

Working on his photography skill eh beautiful shot!

I’m not sure Nathan shared all the details of his plan with the media, he may have arrangements made with help from others and even a plan b if school gets too intense... just sayin.

In the NBC Sports interview, Nathan mentioned that he has the option to take up to 2 semesters off before Beijing. How long is a semester at Yale?

catching up with the FF.

Yale 2 semesters break rule is a little troublesome, when I first read NIck's NBC article, including summer that is a year break, I was hoping more flexibility, so that Nathan can take more than 1 year didicated to figure skating preparing for his Bejing OG, in the future if needed. we will see.

as for leaving Raf. just my humble and unpolular opinion here, Nathan and Raf is on very amicable term rn. Raf is perhaps the only coach that can tolerant Nathan's atypical figure skating training demands next season. They worked together for 6 year, plus, Nathan has brought Raf much fame. So on paper/inteviews, it is what it is. But practically figure skating training wise (and what is acctually going on), Nathan seems is leaving Raf. the real connection in terms of figure skating training maybe not as strong as some could imagine. For example, maybe Raf really is not very clear what Nathan's specific plans are (as oppose to some would imagine), thus not much informative comments on media. I think Nathan is pretty much on his own, and perhaps is holding his cards close to himself.

Nathan is explorative, he wanted change and new challenge/stimuli, thus brand NEW programs next season, will make everything so much more fun. in this train of thought, new coaching situation would be also interesting for him.

As for SS and artistry related stuff, JMHO, after observing Nathan's own effort in SOI and in his previous competitions, I think he needs outside input. he indeed improved his artistry some in SOI on his own. He is very smart and get things faster, thus it maybe possible to improve SS etc. faster than other skaters. but he still need input from true masters, I hope Nathan would work with David Wilson in certain point of his figure skating career. Just to make things insteresting.

about Nathan's insta posts in MOMA, photography etc. and lots of things about him since I started to stan him.... :o::love::luv17:

That iconic photo with Michelle Kwan, I kr, and I am happy:yahoo:

Will Nathan come to michigan to train with Karen after his little break in NYC till this weekend's SOI

EDIT: In that photo with the Kween, Nathan does look royal and very mature, was not shadowed by the Kween by much.

Nathan's curly hair made a heart on his forehead in those gala photos:luv17::love:
We can make a collage of Nathan's hearts: curly hair heart, paper heart and hands heart.

Nathan hasn't been with Raf much since worlds - maybe only a few days at most, I don't know for sure. He won't have much time to train with Raf in the summer with all his shows in Japan, getting choreo, other obligations, etc - so really he will hardly be with Raf much at all and school hasn't even started yet. Wondering if Nathan even still has a home in socal - did his mom move back to Utah?

Obviously Nathan is extremely smart and a quick learner - but I would think he could certainly benefit from having a coach to help him with SS and such. I don't know if working with choreographers (which is rather limited) would be enough. Hopefully he won't truly only be taking the reins himself - but I still think it's very possible he will be quite independent in his training - isn't he already at this point?

He seems to really love NYC as that must have been the most IG posts we've seen from him in one day - though none of the posts had him in them ;) . Looks like he had a nice visit there - and to top it off - the Jazz beat Houston Rockets last night!

I agree - Nathan does look mature and royal 👑in those photo from the gala. And I had not even noticed his curls (has anyone's cowlicks ever looked so good ?) were in the shape of a heart ❤️

And he's turning 19 in 2 days 😊

We need to gift Nathan a selfie stick so that he can took selfies of himself (like a real tourist from China:biggrin:) this can save him from being recognized by fans who would think that selfie-stick Chinese looking boy in NYC is this famous and cool Nathan Chen.

from all the info I can gather about Nathan's FS training, I think Nathan values ice time the most, he likes to figure things out on ice.
Also, he is very active and involved when learning new things from coaches/choreographers. Also, he is very disciplined and this discipine is more coming from himself and his own judgement.

I think Nathan will be flooded with all kinds of fan edit/presents on socail media in 2 days, hopefully he will be in a good mood again.
