Nathan Chen

I'm not bringing up others skaters by name, but I find it hard to believe he can't say top 5 with his plan.

his plan that reveals to us seem is "train by himself"

Let us wait and see what new programs Nathan will get next season, this can tell something.

also not just you. many Nathan fans felt the uncertain around him:drama: Lots of Nathan fans have this heart attack moments since started to stan Nathan.

Ah, you understand me. Who could've thought, who could've thought in the early 2017 that it will be so hard and heart-attacking to stan this boy :D *cries internally*

I'm not bringing up others skaters by name, but I find it hard to believe he can't say top 5 with his plan.

Okay let's narrow it down to top-3

Top 3 in an off-season 4 years before the OG would be fine. Brian Orser just said you don't have to win everything every year to win an OGM. Wise words. ;)

Underdog Nathan wouldn't be bad. Let NBC go bother some other American skater. Sorry Vincent. :slink: Or whoever

I wonder if Raf ever truly believed Yale and training situation would work...seems like he is just waiting for Nathan to find out how unrealistic it is himself. If that's true, I wonder if he will really help as much as he can, or instead, give him some hard time so he can recognize the reality sooner.

I really really wish the opposite that he is as determined as Nathan, like what a real second father would do.

It's just that I'm irrationaly impatient  Wanna wake up in the middle of the next season, ugh.

Haha no worries, I know many fans feel anxious and want him to have a full proof detailed plan of everything he’s doing to assure his success but this is just gonna have to be a wait and see game. It’s not like there is really a precedent for what he’s trying to do so he just has to figure it out as it comes along. Take solace in the fact that his results this year won’t really hurt him so it’s the perfect time for him to try.

oh V, i  u

Tbh I think even if he does focus a little bit more on school this year while still skating, I think it's a good way to decompress and de-stress after such a wild ride of a season. He gave it his all this season just like a OGM winner would, and it is understandable that he would want a mini break from 24/7 skating. We've seen other top skaters do this too and come back stronger than ever (Yuna, Yuzuru). I think he can do it. And since we saw that it was all mental, I think it's an opportunity for him to develop his mental strength.

I always wonder if cultural differences have a lot to do with how people react to Raf lol. It’s quite funny

With the little sanity I still have, I think cultural, background, age, experience difference do contribute a lot to the different interpretations of Raf's interview or impression about him.

Myself for example, I feel extremely uncomfortable every time I read his interviews, and sometimes I reacted in similar fashion like yyyskate. But these past month or two, I began think differently about some of the issues mentioned in the interviews, and have more understanding about certain ways/frustration Raf is reacting, not to say his reaction is right/justified or something. I believe both parties are still learning to make the best situation out of it. They have cultural differences themselves. They might stick together or maybe parting ways someday in the future who knows. But I think it is unfair to blame/fault on someone when we don't know all the details. And I found that twitter gif/video about Raf and baby Nathan really touching.

And I think most of the posters in this ff are Nathan's fans who wish all the best things for Nathan. So let us be careful in using some words before posting. After all, you might agree on next topic even when you have difference regarding Raf.

you point out some valid concerns:agree:

the moment of truth.

I don't doubt he will help him, but I also think he doesn't think it'll work and expects Nathan to come home once he figures it out.

It would be a special kind of petty to sabotage a kid and not help because you don't agree with their choice. I don't think Raf would do that.

And Raf is just being realistic. Even parents tell their kids when they are doing something they find unreasonable.

Raf has other students he’s obligated to, it’s not all about Nathan. He honestly could just say No and leave it at that, he’s already doing more for Nathan than any of his other students before by letting him do this and still coaching him. If it was anyone else, it would have been an automatic no based on past history. I take it he’s being realistic about the difficulty of the situation and what he is asking of Raf (honestly it’s a lot to ask) but I believe that he will try his best, just not at the detriment of his other students that he’s equally responsible for.

No he could NOT, Nathan is his free and golden advertisement. I hope Raf can just say NO and I will admire him for that.

Please................. We all love Nathan and think he's a special snowflake, but Raf had a career wayyyyy before Nathan ever came along, with top name skaters seeking out his coaching. And it was exactly Nathan who would drive all the way from Utah to SoCal SEEKING his help. Reality check please.

BTW, if you really wanna read into Raf.
you could watch his tone change in his various interviews leading to this newest one.
