Nathan Chen

heyheyhey - wow at your attention to Nathan’s career - even going back to the (literal) baby days :). His basic skills test results from age 3 are online? seriously a prodigy

And it seems that’s when Nathan’s injuries started - after 2011-2012 season

Wonder if that trainer got him to cut out junk food - ‘Chen said he had rid his diet of junk food like potato chips and soda in favor of fresh foods.’ from NY Times 2014 article:

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/01/...mpion-at-14-and-a-rising-talent-for-2018.html

baby Nathan's writing is soooo cute:luv17:

Also random tidbit, Nathan has won by more than 30 points over his competitions each in novice, junior, and senior US championships [emoji23]

He holds the record of biggest win margin in any US Championships with 55 points in 2017

Also holds the record for biggest win margin in GPF/Olympics/World Championships ever with over 47 points in 2018

yup, that is how to win a comp in the dominating fashion.

I once posted on this FF I wish Nathan can win like Yuna's 2013 worlds and 2010 OG win with a whopping 20 points to spare.

I guess Nathan surpassed my expectations.

Next step, still win with a large margin, when every one of your competitors also delivers:biggrin:. #HighStandards

#HighStandards indeed

Not enough to win - but must win by 30-50 point margins - even with no errors from competitors

Not enough to skate first ice dance routine - but must develop skills equal to Cizeron

:)

Nathan liked Benjaminclementine's post
"I saw a hot air balloon flying over my house:
Most of the time, it was as quiet as a mouse,
But, every so often, its burners suddenly roared,
And higher, up into the sky, it suddenly soared.
Angela Wybrow."

Do you know if his win at 2012 JGP Austria set any record? He had a monster score and won by a huge margin but I don't know if they were records.

He also liked this - lol - just stop talking to me:

Yes, at the time it was actually the highest score ever recorded in the JGP series/final at 222.00. He won by 37 points. Nathan still holds the record of highest JGP series scores at 236.76 in 2015 JGP USA while Shoma has the highest JGP Final scores at 238.27.

You guys know that Nathan’s free skate score at the Olympics is the highest in Olympics history? That doesn’t seem to get mentioned as much.

He not only scored the highest TES score ever (first in Olympics then broke it again in Worlds) but he’s also only the second skater ever to have broken 320 (after Hanyu who’s broken 330). Let’s try for 340 Nathan [emoji6][emoji23]. He’s almost there without even close to maxing out his PCS or GOEs yet

Ok, I’ll stop now [emoji23] Nathan is very impressive [emoji106]

He needs to work on his SP score since his FS is really high up there (#2) but his SP only like top 4 (high standards again lol). That'll come with maxing out GOE though.

Please continue though, I like all the impressive facts.

the only way for Nathan to improve his SP score is to improve his GOE... he max out his BV already.
Nathan even entertained the idea to push both quad jumping passes into the second half for the SP for the BV bonus in the SP.
really the only way to go next for the short is to improve GOE.

Yep. I look forward to him doing that. I know his scores are impressive right now (to put it mildly), but if he acutally ever started maxing out things... :luv17: He has a lot of room to grow still.

One good thing is his 3A is much better than it was last year.

600 pages and it was just 500 pages last week?? I remember we passed 505 before his birthday though.

I think it was already his birthday in China when we passed 505 pages :)

And easily will get to 600 pages soon !

From what I’ve seen, no he hasn’t. If he’s won the SP, he’s always won the overall competition. He has done well in the SP (like 2nd place) but fell off the podium before (Cup of France 2016, fell to 4th place). But if he’s first in SP, he’s won. I will keep this in mind and double check that for you as I’m going back through his competitions :)

Hehe, maybe.

He took basic skills test starting from when he was 3 until 4 years old and he ranked 1st on all but 2 of them (rank 2nd and 4th). At 3 years old [emoji15]

He took his preliminaries at the age of 5 and ranked #1 all but once (he was 2nd)

Also he went undefeated in the 2010-2011 season (novice) and 2011-2012 season (junior). Then injuries started kicking in I think

A bit OT but just to emphasis why Michelle is the absolute GOAT, I just learned she’s been in 101 competitions from 1992 (when she turned senior at 12)-2005 and she was only off the podium a total of 7 times her entire career. She wasn’t off the podium for a literal decade straight [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15][emoji144]*♀️[emoji144]*♀️[emoji144]*♀️

Wow amazing facts, great record keeping. Yes Michelle is 👑 including what she’s done outside of the sport.

Re: google - on phone the page break with tab works very well, thanks for putting in the effort!

Love stats especially Nathan’s monstrous records. Yes, throughout the interviews and reporting post OG I was expecting enough will talk about his FS record but to dwell upon his SP, tirelessly asking him the same rounds of questions, that performance on all level was epic... I think only one or two commentators touched upon it too.

Don’t stop keep feeding everyone how incredible he is and will be once his GOEs catches 🔥 - his TES ❄️ and GOEs 🔥
