Nathan Chen

Thank you shine, after reading your post I did some research about "Tran", and find this wiki page about last name Chen. For famous people with Chen last name, Lu Chen, Nathan Chen, Patrick Chan listed there, but failed to find Karen and Tiffany and Ray Chen

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chen_(surname)

Nathan and Patrick are listed together like this:
Nathan Chen (born 1999), American figure skater
Patrick Chan (born 1990), Canadian figure skater

Lu Chen is listed several spots above them

Chen Lu (born 1976), Chinese figure skater

Someone needs to add them!:ddevil:

yes seriously! And I'm kinda surprised Ray Chen, 'The Armani-sponsored virtuoso violinist who is a social media star' (according to the Sydney Morning Herald) is not on the list

aww - little Nate 😊

Patrick is ChAn not ChEn.

After Nathan, KAren, and Patrick won their respective nationals in 2017, there was a Chinese Article that proudly proclaimed the success of the North American Chen siblings. They all spoke of them carrying on the skating tradition of Michelle Kwan.

Chen, Chan, and Chin are all written the same in Chinese “陈.” So in China they’re all considered from the same ancestral family.

So location doesn’t really matter. In China they’re the Chen family. And I think it’s wonderful.

No shipping allowed

Guess that’s how I escaped warning

I only posted I won’t miss the shipping/getting annoyed by it

Love the names Nathan/Nate/Nathaniel 😍

Can we stop beating the dead horse now that is his surname? Not everyone knows Chinese surname backgrounds and it's easily misunderstood, one person explaining is enough. Thanks.

I remember Nathan saying that his mom used to try to watch Michelle skate whenever she could back in China (on tv) and that’s how she fell in love with skating. And now he’s following the same path 😢

Sorry and Chill, Ic3Rabbit. It is not the intention. It is weekend and nothing new about Nathan. The FF will be busy with fan girling again when pictures and clips come out maybe in 2 or 3 hours. ;)

Just found out the warning was on April 9th, and we were on page 345. Now we are at page 633

I was explaining and asking for understanding. Thanks.

But I like discussions about Chinese culture. :(

What a wonderful story. Truly a full circle!

You know what’s funny? We should actually be at like 734 pages instead if 100 or so pages worth of posts weren’t deleted a while ago 😂 Seriously guys, we really talk a lot 😂

Yes Nathan, follow Michelle’s path so you can dine with both American and Chinese Presidents and have your own wax statues in museums please, I think Mom will be really happy 😂 🙏

Michelle also went and took classes to learn Chinese (she could understand but not speak like Nathan iirc) after she retired because she wanted to be connected to her roots and it’s helped her in her political jobs since. That’s kinda what I’m hoping Nathan does after skating (learning Chinese I mean, not politics).

Sorry about saying that. What I am trying to say is that it is not the intention to beat the dead horse. Several of us posted around the same time without reading each other's post. For me, it is always interesting to google some topic which might lead to finding something interesting. One article about why Chinese people have Vietnamese last name I just came across has a poster with first part of the username "nemesis", and I got excited when reading that, but the ID ended with 2008, which apparently not related to Nathan and the Nemesis we are crazy about it. Imagine the disappoint in split second.

I forgive you. The point I was making was, yes I understand a few posts at the same time, but not 3 pages of the thing dragging on over an hour and continuously quoting me.

I suspect Nathan can speak quite a lot more Chinese than he has shown - he’s probably just shy to speak - especially in an interview

I thought someone posted in this FF before that they heard him speaking Chinese with his mom

I’m sure they get a bit nervous - Karen used English for words like ‘go to a good college’ and I’m guessing she would know how to say this in Chinese

Nathan said ‘sorry I can’t really speak much Chinese’ faster than I have ever heard anyone say that :)
