Nathan Chen

It's not really worth it for Nathan because the points for 6 quads will trump any small jump bonus.

I don't remember when (at World's maybe?) but he was asked by a reporter if he would continue to go for 6 quads in the future and he said yes.

I remembered that interview, too. maybe after WC. I think he mentioned the possibility of 6 Quads in future not he steadily does that. But he always like adventure...😂

Nathan said this in post-worlds Canon interview: https://global.canon/ja/event/skating/interview/2017_2018/chen_2.html

This season, I challenged six rotations of six at the Pyeongchang Olympics and the World Championships. Are you planning to challenge this jump composition next season too?

I will continue to challenge without giving up. This time, the number of revolutions was enough for all six. However, since the rules will change in the future, I think whether there will be another change in the next 2 years. Temporarily, the trend of quality rather than the number of jumps may start.

So happy we get to see him skate in a show this weekend woohoo! Thanks for the shares.

He’s always so discreet with his jumps so we’ll see, he may pull another surprise next season, somehow I think he enjoys that aside from the pure technical challenge.

Well, I heard the rule to allow only non-repetitive quads is likely to pass. If so, even if he gets his 4l consistent he will only be able to do 5 max.

From what I read in the Proposals to ISU Congress thread, it doesn’t seem that the limiting quad proposal is likely to pass? Guess we will find out for sure soon.

I wouldn’t read too much into specifics of that interview. It was done right after the worlds, the translation I read he was just answering a question and replied in a very general/vague way. And he himself was talking about there will be rule changes in the next two years. He stated that he would keep challenging himself, quality over quantity things like that. He also said skating skills is fundamental to the quality of the jump. If the quality of his jump is not good in practice, he would not do it in competition in the future whereas now he would try doing it in competition if the success rate is 50 percent. He did mentioned working on improving performance part ??? as well.

Sigh, that proposal which would really benefit him was rejected, the CD one, so are we going to see another CD drama next worlds?
