Nathan Chen

Thank you sheetz and oatmella. Now I know I didn't miss any Nathan content in the Shibs H&F vlog.

bonita, that clip of him running with little Audrey was just precious. And also hilarious. Didn't Karen stick her leg out to make sure he didn't 'win' against Audrey? ;) He looked like he had no intention of winning anyway, but Karen made extra sure, didn't she?

Thank you, bonita, for the Bridgestone research. This particular article mentioned a one-year deal for naming of Skate America, but it seems they will sponsor SA again this 2018-19 season? Interesting that they signed Nathan and Ashley first (Spring 2017), and then the naming deal with USFS came later (September 2017).

Thank you for your postings. Thanks, everyone, for your news, links and posts.

re: news from sheetz
The meet and greet for Bridgestone wasn't announced with a whole lot of notice, for anyone wanting to get into their Bridgestone tires equipped cars to drive on over. Anybody from our fan fest planning to drop in? Actually sheetz did make us aware of the rumors a while ago, but the rumored date was 6/22.

If only our intrepid reporter hhh had unlimited funds, loads of leisure time and an army of chauffeurs to attend this event and share news with us! Seriously though, thank you so much, hhh, for your meet and greet report from SOI.

If it weren't for the fans at the train station, we would hardly have seen Nathan at all from his last trip to Japan

from Shibsibs vlog, glimpses of Nathan

can see Nathan skating behind Maia:

Aww, what a disappointment that the Shibs' vlog only had these minuscule bits of Nathan Chen in them. I wonder if sometimes skaters will flat out say that they don't want to be filmed or photographed for someone else's social media or youtube channel? Well, it was a fun youtube video nonetheless. I liked seeing the "old timers" Phillippe & Elvis, as well as the areas of Japan outside the rink.

The Grand Prix assignments are in 5 days. I'm pretty sure Nathan is gonna be in France (he told that to one fan at a M&G?).
Soooo who's going to France?:hap10:

We don’t know if Sam is the sole choreographer for this program. The program he’s best known for - Virtue & Moir’s Moulin Rouge - he was a co-choreographer. As for translating/connecting this movement to blade work/skating - they are at Gadbois - so I’m thinking someone there can help if needed :)

We have no clue if this is actual choreo or if they are just working on movement. Wondering if they are working on a hip hop program?

When TSL interviewed Marie France she talked about the whole process and the creation of the program on the ice and the inspiration that comes from the collaboration with Sam on the dancefloor. We can be sure that someone helps with the translation of the cool moves from the floor into the ice. :) Also, Sam had been doing touch-ups with V/M, Hubbel & Donohue fine-tuning the choreography as the season progressed. (see their instagrams for videos)

Ice Network asked some of its contributing writers which of their stories were their favorites and Phil Hersh said it was his article about Nathan's ballet training.

For years, I had listened to skaters talk about their having received ballet instruction, only to find out after further inquiry that for most of them that meant taking the occasional class. So I filed a mental note when Nathan Chen mentioned to me in 2016 that he had taken ballet lessons regularly for a number of years.

Hoping to find a fresh angle for a story about the sport's new sensation, I decided to look into Chen's ballet background. A Google search turned up newspaper stories about his having actually danced in productions as a boy. That was enough of a lead to follow, so I called several people who taught him (and danced with him) at Ballet West Academy in Salt Lake City.

One after another, the people to whom I spoke raved about Nathan's innate ability as a dancer and explained his particular physical and intellectual gifts for the discipline. All agreed that, if his emphasis were reversed, he had a chance to be as good a dancer as he was a skater.
