Nathan Chen

Gosh, Marin's SP is seven nation army. didnot a fan made a edit using Sam's Nathan clip with Seven Nathan Army and it matched so well:biggrin:
also her long from Lori is "Lovers" from House of flying dragons. Guess Lori must has gone thru all those famous Chinese themed movie albums last season for Boyang and Nathan's choreo...(mood)
I always imagine a Chinese or Chinese descendent skater to interpret Chinese themes. But the connection seem is that the composer of House of flying dragons is Japanese -- Shigeru Umebayashi
Also remember Lori choreoed Zijun's Only for LOVE (in Chinese Red), you could almost imagine Marin's Lovers by Lori.

Preparing for China OG early, bad thing is that Chinese skating fed's relationship with ISU is at the lowest low rn.

personally, I always dreamed Chinese classic dance could be moved onto the ice authentically (to some extent). Although there are a few attempts in the past, but mostly just borrowing element not the essence. The male Chinese Choreographer's solo number in the Solid water production Ice show (baby Nathan participated) is the one ice performance that has the most Chinese classic dance essence that I have ever seen.

His Name is David LIU
here is the dance https://youtu.be/CJ61kx-CXKI?t=1377

David Liu was one of my idols when I was training and skating competitively. It was amazing to once share training ice with him. He has recently done choreographic work with the Ice Theatre of NY. ;)

bonita, if Raf and Nathan can make this mad experiment (two years of remote coaching) work, they will have my ultimate respect.

As for his grammar, I have no idea if he's trying to be hip, humorous or otherwise. Hardly anybody understood his 'neature' pun, and that was clearly deliberate, and something people could easily google. Karen Chen has also posted on social media with deliberate (in her case surely it must be deliberate) non-grammatical phrasing. *shrugs*

I don't understand young 'uns. They just need to turn down their music and get off my lawn.

(oatmella, have you seen some evidence that Nathan wants to permanently mark himself with Emma Watson's name or something? those things are damn difficult to get rid of! I would advise against even the cutest Bolt tattoo.)

The tattoo thing came up because Nathan is following that tattoo artist right? Most people I know who follow tattoo artists on social media are at least thinking of getting a tattoo, but who knows. I didn't follow any until I got a tattoo and was thinking about another one, but some people follow artists and look at tattoos for years before getting one. Tattoos are quite common among younger people - I know a ton of people with tattoos.

Lots of skaters have tattoos. The Olympic rings are a very common one for Olympians to get. I suspect most of them never regret that one.

I know Zach Donohue has several - including the rings (or at least he's planning on getting it). Ashley has the rings, Kaetlyn Osmond has at least 3 including the rings with a maple leaf, etc.

Nathan may just like looking at the designs or know the artist or something and have no plans to get one.

just watched it, it is a pity that the video quality of performances of that time is sooo bad... and it composer is also Japanese -- Ryuichi Sakamoto (I know him more than Shigeru Umebayashi)

Shigeru Umebayashi is also the composer for Onmyōji (Yuzuru's Seimei free). I found out last year when a Korean lady skater Na-Hyun KIM skated to House of Flying Dragon, I was like, this music style is so similar to Seimei, and it is indeed from the same composer.

Speaking of house of Flying Dragon, I don't really care about the plot, but the Chinese classical dance in it is really iconic in Cinematography.

from the choreographer/dancer (she is one of the best Chinese classical dancer)

Korean skater Na-Hyun KIM's free House of Flying Daggers (this performances was a little sensation among Chinese figure skating fans back then because of the Chinese themed music)

eta. Karen's water sleeve dance EX (the lovers, from house of flying dragon) caused a HUGE sensation in China back then probably Karen's best known figure skating performance in China

MY favorite of Karen’s exhibitions! Karen is a master at handling props fluidly during performances, but this one was on a different level. Her performance quality was amazing. Sadly, she says she has no plans to bring back the water sleeves next season. :(

Posted a few more practice videos. You can see other skaters including lovely Angela and beautiful Erin who were also coached by Stephanee in their "baby" days.

Thanks Mamamiia for your beautiful videos. ;)

I agree with Snow White where tattoos are concerned. There are many skaters that have them, Zachary has many and Jeremy Abbott is up to 7 or 8 by now.

Even I have one on my ankle.

Hope all who uses her videos credits her, it’s getting a lil out of hand especially on IG. Thanks for the new videos mamamiia 💛

Nathan following that tattoo artist and the store where she works

Romain has a tattoo too :)

Thanks Mamamiia for the new practice videos

Thank you so much! I appreciate all the moments you captured on photos and videos. Nice to see my favorites so happy in their work/play. I *especially* love practice footage of Nathan. Sometimes I think these give me more enjoyment than actual competition footage.

Me too, there was someone that shared it over on the EDGE part of the forum on Sunday and I pointed out to her that it was an unlisted YouTube video and I really hoped she got the persons permission first before posting it all over.

She came back and said that no she didn't and she even took it to another forum. :palmf:

Me too, I LOVE practice/rehearsal videos because they’re organic and in the ones from SV, reactions from the spectators are endearing, my heart swoons when people cheer him on or get just as excited as me haha.

Tattoo - FYI the Halloween girl followed it too.

I am just making fun of this Yale kid  I think most of the fans get the neature thing. They just could couldn’t wait to jump on anything to mock the Asian parents’ perfect child. ;)

As to tattoo, he probably wouldn’t have time to think about anything other than sleep once school starts. He would have new friends, and would probably lose interest in it if tattoo is not popular among his new circle of friends. It is more of peer influence thing.

And it might be someone close to him is interested in getting tattoo. He also follows Acura or Lexus I couldn’t remember clearly, I really don’t think he would get an Acura. It is not for his age.

BTW, I think he has outgrown Emma Watson.

Haha, maybe he got it from her.

Thanks Mamamiia for the practice videos:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

me too :luv17: watching him practice in person is even better, you can interact with him if brave enough lol

Thanks for trying to protect my video content and the crediting! Posting anything outside of friends and family is completely new to me. At this point, I only have 2 goals, to make it as easy as possible for Nathan fans to see his skating and hopefully to provide more angles for professionals to assess his new programs and to provide him valuable feedback. As a casual fan, I am not worrying much about crediting so I feel no pressure about the video quality. Nathan has so many talented fans that create amazing art and interesting content for him, those are the ones that should be credited.

Nathan perhaps already got his 5th tattoo in the places we will never see.

yes it's my video. The split second when my lens hits the spot light and Nathan skated right across me was unexpectedly beautiful, I wish I was more prepared and skilled to create a beautiful lens flare.

Under the new ISU rules, what is the jump layout of FS for Nathan to get the highest TES possible with his arsenal?

about practice seems is better than the show, I think mostly it is due to costume, as skfan posted. the costume does not flatter his form visionally.
But stage effect, lighting etc. I think each has it own. Audience also participated in the show in the form of glowing sticks, it is very beautiful in the background. As mamamiia posted, different ways of presenting the beauty of Nathan's performances. That GIF moment (with glare effect) already echoed in heart. Precious fancams.

you know, sometimes, even skaters themselves like(even seek) fans to take videos of their skating, so that they can watch and analyze their own skating.

Something that he's not quite capable of yet.

I think it's:

4S
4Lo
4F
3A
-----
3A+4T
4Lz+3T
4Lz+1/2Lo+3S

One quad and one triple repeated. All combos in the second half.
