Nathan Chen

Montreal is closer to Yale than socal - but it still seems kinda far for Nathan to be getting his training there. Other than a random weekend of coaching or something.

I am guessing Nathan is not getting 10 hours of sleep anymore ! - and seems very unlikely at college and with his schedule. But like he said before, sleep is the best recovery ...

Even if he did want to have his practice sessions at the Whale super late - I'm not sure that's feasible.

^^

Well, that rink in Japan was willing to let them practice at 1am, but then it regularly expects a large crowd as late as 11:30pm!

I hope Nathan spends some of the time in the next two weeks learning about power naps. Don't think that would be sufficient for the body to heal itself but it might help the efficiency of his studying.

Remember when we first found out that Nathan was going to Yale and some were thinking that Nathan would be paying for Raf to fly out to Yale for training along with Marin, Eunsoo, etc. - lol. Estimated cost at least $15,000 per trip :)

Wonder if Raf will ever be flying out to Yale at all ...

If Nathan had enough money to afford such extravagance he wouldn't be doing a gazillion ice shows plus the Japan Open.

I think the only extra training possibility is maybe arriving with team Raf skaters 2 or 3 days earlier than usual for Skate America, and maybe *fingers crossed* GPF and Worlds. Even that will be expensive.

Nathan did mention flying Raf out 7-10 days before a competition for training, but that might not be happening

He has been working really hard this summer! Still hoping for a Panda Express sponsorship ... a lot of expenses - and tuition, room and board is like almost $70,000 (hope he got some scholarships ...)

You haven't mentioned your salary requirements. Would a couple of New York pretzels to munch on the Metro North train do for you? ;)

Lol if Nathan insists, he can reach me a quad or two in return.

I think his mom will be the first one to jump in and help if he starts to have difficulties with coping...

How is that possible with Raf having a platoon of students, honestly? And a great many of his students are top skaters for their feds, too--Romain is probably expected to be at Worlds, Eunsoo stands a much better shot than Marin of making Worlds but Marin is a huge story Japanese media is following. I'm pretty sure Raf was invited to The Ice not because of any training for Nathan and Mariah and Marin being accommodated, but because Jp media wanted to interview Raf for their TV broadcast. Michal will be at Euros and Worlds. (all this barring injury, fingers crossed) I'm sure I'm forgetting other high profile students--Raf has so many.

Well, maybe Raf and Nathan can come up with a remarkable, creative plan?

... I fully agree with the sentiment, but what can she honestly do, other than drive him to Cromwell so he can sleep on the way? Can she go to his classes and take notes for him? It would be rather mortifying for him as a nineteen year old guy to have his Mom coming to his rescue, wouldn't it?

I'm not excited about having her as his coach, with all due respect to her as an amazing Mom who raised an amazing son.

Nathan has been really frugal, and Brezina said in that interview at worlds that Nathan saves everything for his education. So I think he will be ok :)

Our day dreaming could stop right here lol. All need based.

“Yale, like all Ivy League schools, does not award athletic scholarships. But the University's generous financial aid policies have made Yale more accessible to student athletes from middle-income families.”

While none of us can know in detail Nathan's financial situation or Yale's financial aid package for him, I would guess that for this freshman year, Nathan will have some income from ice shows and endorsements signed for the Oly year only that will count as income. He'll be paying a good portion of that 70k oatmella estimated, probably, if not all of it.

Maybe just spoil him for special days like the week before competition. Driving, laundry, preparing him yummmy nutritious food, taking videos, all these can buy him extra time for training, studying and recovering.

Wonder if Nathan will have a roommate?

And wonder what residential college he got assigned to and if it’s one of the more Hogwarts-like ones :)

Thanks to oatmella for enlightening me about the new residential colleges having only singles.

I don't care about Hogwarts anymore, I just want the Head of his college to have a nice dog.

Thank you for taking the time to answer so earnestly and kindly. :)

I read some article that China federation send young male skaters to Raf, and now they working with Raf.

these two chinese boys named Shuai Fang and Yudong Chen(yeah, same surname with nathan). Fang was born in 2003 and chen was born in 2004. they are both old enough to compete for 2022.
