Nathan Chen

I apologize for my CBC Internationaux de France videos being over a week late, but I have the best (and worst) excuse ever; if you haven't already heard about my life-threatening incident, you can read about it here: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?72200-2018-19-Canadian-figure-skating&p=2266347&viewfull=1#post2266347

His LP performance is at 9:22, his profile + SP summary is at the beginning, and there's a warm-up clip at 1:50 (the password is men): https://vimeo.com/296228905

His kiss & cry is at the beginning (the password is men): https://vimeo.com/296228927

Please don't apologize! You have been through some very scary stuff and I am so glad you are still with us. :ghug:

John Wilson Blades interview with Michal Brezina: https://youtu.be/WIpXtJAQmFE?t=600

‘All the kids that I work with, they're in the group that Rafael coaches - so I'm helping him with all the kids that are in our group. And the philosophy with him is also to understand that jumps is not everything. There has to be skating, choreography, spins, like everything has to be there, because it's not a jumping contest - it's figure skating. There still has to be skating - and some figures, so you have to kind of put it together. And sometimes I think the kids don't understand - they see all of us - like Nathan, and me, and Romain, and Mariah - they see us jump all day long. And I think they sometimes don't pay attention to all the little things that are happening in between the jumps - and that's what we're trying to push them towards. You have to work on the little stuff, you can't just work on the the jumps, because jumps are not everything ... so I'm always trying to push them and make them understand if you skate well, your jumps will get better ... Nathan Chen may need to ante up at Grand Prix Final: https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2018/12/04/nathan-chen-shoma-uno-grand-prix-final/

Olympic and world silver medalist Shoma Uno is the only skater in this week’s six-man field who has ever challenged Chen.

And Chen is taking it relatively easy this fall, balancing Yale freshman classes with training on his own, 3,000 miles from his Southern California-based coach. In his two Grand Prix starts, Chen averaged about half of the eight quadruple jumps he attempted at the Olympics. He still won comfortably.

“He’s going to have to pull out more in the Final,” NBC Sports analyst Tara Lipinski said. “You’re going to be up against someone like Shoma Uno, who has the quads, and if he skates clean can challenge him.”

Nathan is on his way to Vancouver, per his IGS update.

And the boy seems to be in very good mood today, posted a Yale picture, and got like from Charlie and Stephane :luv17:

In the mean time, another member of the Arutunyans had this to say about his brother

“What Nathan Chen has done this season is incredible,” with going to Yale and competing, Rippon said. “He seems to have this new challenge but is able to balance it so well. As a skater and as a teenager, right now this is developmentally where he should be. Sure, we all want him to keep winning, but he’s stepping out on his own and that will benefit him as he heads towards Beijing 2022.””

Thanks, Adam. And thanks Ashley for your good comments about Nathan. He will make you and the rest of the family proud.

Thanks everyone who voted for Nathan. I had same feeling with sheetz, TeamUSA must award someone else like last time, but we need to show our support for Nathan and the sport he loves.

Nathan mentioned in story about Adam.

Nathan should focus on his own goals and not some silly article.

Rocker Skating GPF men preview: https://www.rockerskating.com/news/2018/12/5/2018-grand-prix-final-preview-men-chen-vs-uno-for-gold

GOLD Nathan Chen USA - Will Chen up his technical content this week in anticipation of the showdown against Uno? In his two events so far this season, he’s taken it easy in an effort to put down clean performances over breaking records. He’s also gotten unclear edge calls on his flip this season, which has contributed to some lower-than-expected scores based on the performances that he’s delivered. So you wonder if he brings back the lutz in favor of the flip, and you wonder if he revisits a four-quad free skate over a three. Either way, he and his team have been playing it one competition at a time while he balances school - it’s a different mindset to his season that he hasn’t had before.

I’m so worried about he puts combination in the last jump element...... I know he can handle it, but for me, it is so terrified to watch😂😂😂
